Claire looked up from splinting the Spider girl’s femur so it healed right the first time.  She hated rebreaking these folk’s bones.  It sucked cause they heal so fast.

“Do what to it? I washed it this morning.”  She pushed a bit behind her ear and finished.

“I’d say don’t walk on it for a while, but I gave that up a long time ago.”  She started packing up her gear and it suddenly occurred to her that Peta meant do her hair.  She hadn’t thought about that kind of thing since her quinceanera.  Nursing school cured her of that.

His brow furrowed, he took a slow look around.

“–this place filled up quick, we must’ve been on the leading edge of the rush.”

“Uh, miss?” he held up an index finger. “When you get a second.”

The waitress glanced up and nodded– looked like she was doing double duty for the busboy, wherever he was, she disappeared into the back with a tray of plates and cups.

“Mm,” Luke hesitated, his ego visibly somewhat deflated, laughing about it quietly. “Ah. Some ‘Hero.’”

Claire grinned at him, her nose crinkling at how cute he looked.  She put her hand on his.

“You’re still my hero, baby.”  She looked around too, seeing what Luke was talking about. “Must be short-staffed tonight.  It’s ok.  I’m not in a hurry.  Our hotel room is confirmed so they won’t be giving it away to anyone.”  She sighed and looked across the table, just enjoying the alone time with her man.
