Bodyshaming

My grandmother said to me today, "With your extra pounds, you had better choose a job that doesn't make you sedentary." Something breaks inside me when I hear comments like that. Like I don't know I don't have a model body. And it's not my fault. Due to an illness that was diagnosed far too late, my metabolism is not working properly and I gained a lot of weight during my childhood and adolescence. But you don't have to remind me every time we see each other. I know what is imperfect about my body. But I haven't heard any derogatory comments about my body in the last 7 weeks and had reached a point where I had something like self esteem. But with this little sentence you have destroyed it again. Now I feel shit again and I'm just sad. Was that what you wanted to achieve? Was that your goal? If so, congratulations. You made me feel really bad again. Thanks.
