I feel like we never talk about the Illyrians boys NOT THE MEN but the child soldiers. They get thrown into war camps at 8 years old, most likely away from they're families until they are done with training!

These boys are treated horrible to the point where three lashing is considered good, and those are the legitimate children. The bastard born boys literally have to fight others for clothes!

I feel like this often get sidelined in the fandom and most people talk about the women and wing clipping. All of the Illyrian men and their behaviors are tied back to their childhood, no one is born misogynistic, barbarian and backwards. And if Rhys wants the girls to train too does that mean they train in the same condition as boys?

I know sjm wanted to show how backward and barbarian Illyrians are and most likely got inspiration by the Spartans but Rhys has been High Lord for at least 400 years! While Illyrians doesn't listen to High fae he is part Illyrian, he had more chance to change things than any of his ancestors! While we hear that he made wing clipping "illegal" we never hear him talk about changing the laws against child soldiers! He had time to change things! If he's such a good High Lord why does things like this still happening? It could of been a literal rhys glazing about how good of a High Lord he is because he abolished child violence against the Illyrian boys! Instead it never gets brought up, and when it does it's to show how horrible childhood Cassian and Azriel had! You know never about the current boys who are getting trained and brainwashed!

At least he could of changed some laws against child violence, making the training less brutal and violent! He could of changed the training age to 10 or preeteen! Or literally did anything else!

Eight year old boys are still children no matter their early upbringing or gender!

And yes it is Rhysand's fault and responsible! Because he is the High Lord, the ruler! It is his job to make change and better his people's life!

I noticed that every time someone criticizes Rhys on his behavior fans shrug it off with "Well yes,he's morally grey"

He's not.

Morally grey characters do not get an entire chapter of monolgue where they can explain(badly) their actions. Morally grey characters do not explain and justify their actions at all. Because their morals do not align with the general public.

Tell me one morally grey character in fiction who got an entire chapter dedicated to explain and justify themselves. Even then his explanation is...lacking, it's justified with "he had to protect Velaris and his family" not the Night Court, his citizens but Velaris. Chapter 54 of acomaf is written to make us feel bad for him and see where he was coming from, but once again his explanation is horrible. (Or at least is it if you can look past his moderately sad background). And both the text and the characters tell us that yes his actions were justified and there's nothing wrong with him, he's not bad.

Morally grey characters are not written like that.

Sjm told us via page that Rhys is not a bad person and that every one if his actions are justified instead of letting us decide. And because of that he's not morally grey.

Two years after the High Lord of the Spring Court got back on his feet and promised himself to rebuild his Court and life only for his people, he's forced to travel to the other end of his court. By no other than Solène Rosier, the bane of his existence. The female who had helped him more than anyone else the past years, and carries wounds just as painful as his. Who he fights with everyday then she forces him to have dinner with her, the female who is not afraid of his anger and can match by word for word. Solène is fire, and she has dragged him to the duchy of Roslin, where their personalities crashes and their anger explodes. Tamlin has to learn to accept help again, Solène has to learn to let people in, and maybe those two can find those in each other.

“See? I told you!” Solène quickly stood up aswell and started to follow him “This visit will really be pay up for us!”

Tamlin shock his head. This female. She’s the reason for everything. If she hadn’t mentioned this, or hadn’t got behind his back and planned this visit all of this wouldn’t happened. Which he did not yet knew if was a good thing or a bad one.

Still, how dare she say us? He will have the permanent consequences, not she! The only reasons she’s here is because the high priestess assigned her here. If not she would be in one of her Autumn home, drinking and judging and doing everything Autumn nobility does!

“There’s no us!” he said, voice deeper and louder then he wanted as he kept going towards his chambers “You’re here because the High Priestesses assigned you here, and for some reason you don’t want to leave! So do not speak like you actually care about what will happen!”

“Gods! You really just keep repeating yourself, aren’t you?” he couldn’t see her eye roll but he felt it “I am helping you, instead of being angry you should thank me?”

“Thank you?” he said , sounding almost hysterical “For-for what? For putting your nose in everything that you have no right to know or decide? For those devoted Gods of yours Solène! This whole visit is because of this!”

“And? Do not act like it was better while you were roaming the land as a beast!” her voice got higher and much much more irritated “You’re not blind! You can see how much the duchess likes you at the moment! And she’s the youngest, what about the other Dukes and Duchesses? You think they praise you?” her face was getting more red and her voice louder, still she was following him into the rooms “For the last time; I am helping you rebuild your Court! And all I got is you telling me that I shouldn’t! What is it your mother never told you to thank when someone helps you?”

Tamlin shut the doors open then back, the impact making a loud voice that the guards definitely heard.

“And yours to never overstay a welcome?” he narrowed his eyes, jaw tightening, teeth clenching.

"Eris, tell me that you poisoned all of your brothers and that’s reason why all of them are so incompetent to do their job!”

Eris eyes locked into his but said nothing.

“First Sébastian, then Constantin and now you!” he pointed at him as he stood up from his chair walking in frustration and anger “Did all of you get even more stupid? That you can’t even do your jo? Is it some kind of game to bring me to insanity?”

Yes.

The room was quite, some eyes on him, some low on the table as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. None of them dared to look at the High Lord

“ANSWER ME”

“I am very sorry, and I apologize once again for my incompetence and I would never do anything against you father! I will continue to look for these people but at the moment I’m at lost just as you are!” Ezran kept calm kept calm and collected as he always did, not like his father.

“You better” he snarled back clearly having more to say but his uncle Maxim interrupted him

“Even if you found this person or persons, what would you do with them that wouldn’t come of as you proving their point?”Maxim voice was harsh and pointed.

Maxim Rosie was a lot of things but he never let his family be disrespected, even when it came to his nephews being told off for no reason by their father. He had a lot of fights with the High Lord because of that, never baring him disrespecting his nephews or sister, especially when he was younger with a worse temper. Since then he learned to force himself back and not get into constant fights about his sister, knowing her situation might get even worse if he got into the middle of it. Beron on the other hand just let his insult and anger out when he wasn’t around.

“Arrest them for treasury!” Beron turned to him slowly “For spreading vile lies about their High Lord and the royal family, for being the enemy of the Court and its ruler!”

“Only the public doesn’t know how much of them are lies” Maxim reminded him, tilting his head to the side

“What are you trying to say, Maxim?” he gritted the words out, eyes burning with fire “Obviously those are all vile lies and once I capture them the public will know as well!”

Maxim did not falter under the High Lord gaze “Of course they're lies because the things that is on that paper would wage war against our families”

“You’re doubting your High Lord and brother, Maxim?” Beron voice was clear this time, gone the anger and frustration from his sons.

This time Maxim did falter from the High Lord voice but did not let himself be made a clown.

“No, of course not, you did not gave us any reason why!”

Eris and Ezran looked at each other, their father busy with their uncle, at that moment there was no rivalry between them, only a clear look that said more than any words.

Constantin Vanserra

Fifth born son of the High Lord of the Autumn Court and the Governor of Eldora

Constantin was born mere minutes after his non-identical twin brother, who Lucien killed and ever since Constantin hates. The death of his brother impacted his a life, and had lost a part of himself and can never be the same again.

He's highly intelligent academically, has spent the first century of his lives in universities studying. Though academically he's the smartest and has a photographic memory he's not as intelligent in other aspects of life.

His mind is the only reason Beron keeps him around and treats him well.

He spent most if his time drunk in clubs, either with friends or his brothers and cousins and has a habit of seducing married females.

He is most often referred as the drunk.

And can I say that Nesta and Elain are isolated in Velaris?

Because they are. They never saw the world–Prythian–outside Velaris, they went to the Hewn city one time and Nesta went to a few meetings with Cassian when meeting with Eris. They do not have money of they own, we never even learn what happened to their inheritance from their father. As far as I know Nesta does not get paid for her work in the library or with the Valkyrie's. Quiet frankly they live on Rhysand and Feyre's money, and "kindness".

(Remember in acofas where Feyre made Nesta go to their solstice party using her rent money?)

Elain literally lives with them (how uncomfortable it must be to live with your little sister and her husband, and they famously like to solve their arguments with sex), and has nothing of her own. Her friends are their spies/maids that Feyre paid extra for befriending her and "helping" her.

They live in Velaris where Rhysand can tell any employer not to hire them, where Rhysand rules from.

But Nesta likes Velaris and Rhys offered her multiple jobs before locking her up!

Yes, he offered her jobs that most likely served him and where he would be her full-time boss. As a girl with a brother in law(that is like a brother to me no matter how much i shade him) I would not want him to be my boss, and do as he says.

If they wanted to escape the city they couldn't, because they do not know anyone outside of Velaris(someone they could trust). The reason they could lock Nesta up was because she had no other choice, had never saw the rest of Prythian or the Night Court.

The concept of it all is just wierd and uncomfortable for me. They live on Rhys and Feyre goodwill, and we all saw what happens when they do something they do not like.

Ezran Vanserra

Ezran Vanserra, the third son of the High Lord and currently the second heir, the enforcer of the High Lord and the second General of Autumn.

Ezran was the third son of Beron, and his favorite, after his failure with his two first son Beron swore to raise him as the perfect son. Or rather what he deemed perfect. He had made him uncaring but let him have people he cared about to be able to manipulate him. He had made him heartless, but had not let him be apathetic like his second son. He had made him a killer, but let him have a normal life outside of that, so he wouldn't turn mad.

Beron had made him monster that answers to him like a loyal hund.

Ezran is much closer to his younger brothers than his older ones, as he often took care of them when they were little when his mother had no time. He always had a very complicated relationship with Eris, and he would have killed Nicolas–the second son– eventually if Tamlin hadn't.

To most the scariest thing about him is that he can appear normal, joyful and light. He never hides in the shadows and broods, he dances in the light. A reminder that he is not just a killer but a Prince. Beron’s Butcher Prince.

Obviously she looked straight into him and after minute of looking at him she said “Tell me first; it is true males do not wear anything under their kilts?”

They didn’t, but he wasn’t about to give up “I guess you have to find out for yourself”

Cassian is the type of man who says he wants a strong woman who will stand with him but that only applies on the outside. He wants someone strong with others, but he wants her to be sweet and submissive with him. He wants to be able to say that he changed her, that she listens to him and she is basically lets him lead the charge. Knowing she would never allow that with someone else.

Cassian wants a strong and dominating woman in public but when she doesn't submit to him between close doors he feels like she hurt his masculinity. Like she humiliated him(count how many times he felt like that). And I don't think that's a deadly flaw when we see his upbringing. The toxic masculinity of the Illyrians and the Night Court, he also sees the his dream couple do the same: Feyre is strong and stubborn but completely listen to Rhys and never calls him out in public, even when they do fight she quickly forgives him and act as if it never happened. I think it would be interesting to see how he wants someone equally strong to him but his upbringing, his ego and subconscious tells him otherwise. Because he is afraid that if he's with a woman who's too strong or as strong as him, he no longer will be seen as the masculine one, he no longer be needed.

This is actually very heavily portrayed in media, where the woman is too strong, too independent and basically doesn't need the man. It doesn't matter that before they got together he was crazy about her, and her personality. Once his ego and masculinity is hurt he will try to sabotage the relationship, he no longer wants to be with her 100%. Now! In a lot of media it's often portrayed as the woman fault, she is too strong, he feels like she doesn't need him, she didn't let him be a man etc.

I wouldn't say I'm completely against Nessian, I feel like if their book was more focused on their relationship(with less corny sex scenes and Feysand) and think they would have turned out to be better. (I especially like fics where Cassian eyes open and he choose her against the ic, and he can finally be something else other than a warrior.) Especially if she gave Cassian character growth, Nesta literally changes her entire life by the end of the book and Cassian...Cassian stayed the same. No character growth, his deep toxic masculinity never comes up, I don't even think his internizald bastard problem is solved he just no longer thinks of it as often because he have Nesta now.(The proper lady who would never look at an brute Illyrian bastard, he feels more fulfilled by that, but he never actually heals)

Solène Rosier

She's the current Proxy High Priestess of Spring, and the niece of The Lady of the Autumn Court.

Under the mountain she and her group of priestesses tried to contact her relatives in the continent and ask for help. Unfortunately the Attor and Rhysand found them before they were able to do it. Rhysand killed her five sisters–who she trained and worked with since she started priestesshood– and their mentor. But he warned Amarantha that if they killed her, the Rosiers would be after her, therefor Amarantha let her life. She was locked in cell for a decade, Amarantha only let her out after she swore her undying loyalty to her.

She hates Rhysand to the heart, and everything to do with him. Her hatred is not small and elegant, it is ugly and blinding, to the point she cannot stand the Archeron sisters become they related to him. Every time she sees him the only thing she can see is him shattering her sisters minds.

She is the fifth born child of her parents, only mere minutes younger than her twin sister. Her father the Lady of Autumn Court brother and the Minister of Finance, and her mother is a noble Summer lady. Solène whoever has little to do with Summer for her mother has eloped her father and waived all her rights.

Solène had left for spring around Nesta imprisonment in the House of Wind, as the new proxy High Priestess. Her duties were to bring the people faith back to the Mother and to help rebuild Spring, acting like a proxy until they find the next High Priestess. She and Tamlin did not liked each other at first, and were often at each other throats as they liked to be. Solène was very persistent, did not let him suffer in his misery and neglecting his courts. She often tells him what to do better, and calls him out on his bullshit. They have evolved since but they're still at each other throat and have a dispute every day.

“Az is not an incel!” Incel means involuntary celibate. Az whines in the book about not having a mate when Rhys and Cas do. That’s QUITE LITERALLY the DEFINITION of being an incel.

Besides, Az makes Mor uncomfortable af throughout the series AND treats Elain like a sex object AND casually speaks of killing her mate (who has been nothing but respectful towards him) which would shatter her.

Mind you, people still think Mor should’ve come out to Az when we know how fucking dangerous it is to be queer…like she owes no one her sexuality. It’s Az’s responsibility to step tf back and not make her uncomfortable. Maybe if Mor actually felt safe around him she would’ve told him but she clearly doesn’t…anywayyyy
