I'm popping in again, because I actually asked the Devs in regards to selling fanart. And now after reading their terms of service drölf times I finally understand the business english, and there are some interesting things in there in terms of what could happen and what one can expect and what's allowed to do. I'll go paraphrase now since I'm on my phone.
1. They have requirements that have to be met for fanart to be allowed.
2. Non profit is written as the first step.
3. Doing thing that will damage the companies reputation is stated not once but twice.
4. You are not allowed to make people think it is official work done by the company.
Now it get's interesting:
If even a portion of Solmares content is copied or traced to create said content.
That includes card frames. And any of their symbols used in the context of the game. I worked at a Design company during my internship so I have some experience what's copyright infringement and what's not. We were always told you have to make it look about 30% different for it to not be counted as tracing or copying.
If the contents do not contain anything that could cause harm to Solmare's reputation or any of the characters reputation.
And that's what's starting to happen. Some people stop playing because of their actions, aka giving the company a bad reputation.
Here are the actions they could take:
1. Permission to use contents is terminated.
2. Request to delete said works have to be followed immediately.
3. Furthermore NTT Solmare may request compensation for any damages done to the company.
This might be monetary in terms of selling fanart, but also legal involvement for damaged reputation. Or a permanent ban from producing any obey me related work.
I personally really hope the company will take notice of what these people are doing to their game. This isn't a small matter anymore. Obey Me is now somewhat linked to an address being leaked. Thanks to them.
