Context: our party had eladrin elf barbarian, who’s new to Material Plane and surprised that animals don’t talk to him. Specifically, random goat, that he was investigating, while other party members interrogated some farmers.

Barbarian: Why isn’t he talking to me?

Rogue, sarcastically: Maybe he’s hiding something. His eyes look mischievous.

DM laughingly asked for Deception check from Rogue and Insight from Barbarian. They got 4 and 2 respectively.

DM: You’re now convinced that this goat know something important to the case but isn’t willing to cooperate. It might be a culprit.

Our sweet innocent child of a Barbarian proceeded to spend several sessions dragging this goat around, talking to it, feeding it treats and generally trying to earn its trust. Eventually rogue decided to mess with him more and used some illusion spells so it would look like the goat was finally opening up to Barbarian and shared it’s deepest fears and dreams.

This goat is a part of the group now. And rogue started to hear it too.

its very funny when dnd guys see something they dont like and theyre like gary gygax wouldnt stand for this. like. yeah he would lol. every piece ofg GM advice he ever wrote was like ‘full-time embody The Joker. gaslight your players. verbally bully everyone you know. youre allowed to shoot any players that piss you off with a full bore shotgun. if it even looks like anyone is having fun at any time flip the table over and set it on fire and set off the sarin gas charges’
