Taking a pathophysiology class and they keep insisting on referring to strokes as "brain attack".
I worked in an ER for two years and never heard that term. Is it a term people actually use?
Nurse: where'd Dr F go?
Me: he took off but I didn't see where he went. I'm sorry.
Nurse: don't be sorry! You're not his babysitter
Me: I think I kinda am
Nurse: ... yeah you kinda are.

Patient is requesting 90-day supply of hydroxychloroquine, “my neuroradiologist said it’s the only thing that works.”
Assessment & Plan: no testing necessary, only leads to diagnosis. Patient prefers treatment course combination of denial of illness, magical thinking, and chlorox injections to standard care. Advised patient of typical course of illness and reviewed symptoms which should trigger emergency care. Recommended psychiatric follow up once illness subsides.
Thank you for the interesting consult.
We will sign off at this time. Please call with questions
Counseling pharmacist: please advise patient that no new medications will be ordered as a result of today’s visit. Apologize for the wait, but have confirmed that we will not be dispensing hydroxychloroquine today, and there is no need to continue lingering in the pharmacy waiting area.
So we have diagnoses for "fall from spacecraft" and "burn due to fire on waterskis" but nothing about injuries from bull riding or barbed wire?
Guess whoever wrote these wasn't from 'round these here parts.
Doctor: What year is it?
Patient: 2020
Doctor: Good! Do you know who the president is?
Patient: That sorry son of a bitch...
Our hospital shared some tips for dealing with stress during the pandemic. One of the suggestions was "maintain regular sleep and work hours".

Saw my first covid code today. I've seen plenty of covid patients. And I know that some died after admission. But most of the really sick people I've seen were older with underlying medical conditions.
This patient was in her early 40s, no medical conditions as far as I know. O2 was in the 50s% on arrival but she was still awake and oriented. She was just about to be moved to ICU when she crashed.
It looked like a war zone when we were done. It felt like a war zone. This is one of the really scary covid stories you hear about. The young healthy people who die. It's one thing hearing about it, another to see it in real time
