Photos by @amivitale. The Taliban have taken control of Afghanistan. How can we turn our backs on all the innocent human beings who will be targeted? I will be searching for ways we can help. This post from the @GeorgetownUniversity Institute for Women, Peace and Security at giwps.georgetown.edu/how-to-save-the-lives-of-afghan-women/ is a good place to start (link in profile.) In the meantime, we can support humanitarian visas, support those protecting those who spoke out and ask the U.S. government to make protecting women, especially women activists, a priority.
@FastCompany has also written an article on getting involved. Go to fastcompany.com/90666326/how-to-help-afghanistan-things-you-can-do-right-now-for-a-country-in-crisis to help today. (Link in profile.)

What other high jinks can compare with using Denis Rodman, a basketball player, to measure the size of an h-bomb? Photographs of Mr Rodman standing with Kim Jong Un allow a reliable estimate of the North Korean dictator’s height (it would be foolish to trust official statistics on such a matter). From Mr Kim’s height you can estimate the size of his head; from that you can get the size of nuclear weapons with which he has posed.

“Daniel Morgan murder: Met Police 'institutionally corrupt', says report”, Channel 4 News (15/6/2021)
"One of the most devastating episodes in the history of the Metropolitan Police" is how Home Secretary Priti Patel put it.
In a damning report, the force stands accused of institutional corruption and putting its own reputation above the proper investigation of the 1987 murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan.
Despite five police inquiries and an inquest, and now an apology from Met Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick, no-one has ever been brought to justice over his killing, leaving Mr Morgan's family, 34 years on, still waiting for justice.

“Uighur doctor tells of 'forced abortions and removal of wombs' in China”, ITV News (2/9/2020)
A beauty salon in an Istanbul suburb is not the place you would expect to hear some of the gravest accusations against a government.
It is also not where you would expect to meet a woman who, though ashamed, speaks of knowingly taking the lives of babies.
At her request we are not naming the woman, a Uighur doctor, but we are broadcasting her disturbing testimony.
She says that for much of her career she worked for the Chinese government as part of what she describes as its population control plan to curtail the growth of the Uighur population.
