Ed, Edd n Eddy are all victims of abuse
I didn’t notice it till now but when watching the show again, it’s kinda obvious. Let’s start with Ed.
Ed’s abuse seems to be more emotional abuse. His parents spoil his sister Sarah, while Ed lives in the basement. They also seem to take Sarah’s side more often. These can be signs of parental favoritism. I mean, look at Ed’s room.
now look at sarah’s:
Sarah’s room is much larger, cleaner and more comfortable than Ed’s. Sure, Ed’s a messy guy but you’d think a good parent would start showing SOME concern when their child’s room is as bad as Ed’s.
Now to Double D. His abuse is more about neglect and lack of affection from his parents. Not only are his parents never home but they communicate through sticky notes they leave around the house. and what are on those notes?
Chores. Double D’s parents seem to treat him more like a maid that cleans the place while they’re away most of the time, instead of their son.
and finally, Eddy. His is the most obvious.
While not a parent, Eddy has been shown to be physically and verbally abused by his older brother. This was revealed in the series finale.
I can’t believe I actually missed this until now.
This also shows another difference between them and the rest of the kids in the cul-de-sac.
Jimmy’s parent’s don’t seem to mind that their son has more feminine interests, buying him things like an easy bake oven and letting him have a feminine room and stuffed animals. Kevin’s dad constantly showers him in gifts. Nazz lives a carefree and happy life. Johnny’s parents seem to be tree-huggers(they have arbor day parties and bring nature inside as a christmas tradition) and don’t find it strange that their son talks to inanimate objects and Rolf has a close, very large and traditional family.
These are kids that most likely wouldn’t understand what the eds go through. That could be another reason why the eds are outcasts in the show.
holy SHIT

Ed Edd n Eddy backstory
The show actually has some depth barely hidden behind the slapstick comedy and jokes. Theirs 2 groups of characters that all have actually pretty sad lives that are only made better by the fact they each other. Theirs Ed’s and the Kanker Sisters. This is all brought up casually but the kids themselves don’t think too hard about it because that’s just their life for as long as they’ve known it.
The Kankers are the easiest to summarize and it’s put simply as a patchwork family and butter parent. Their mom has been married at least 3 times if not more. Each of the Kankers are half sisters and they have a complex when it comes to men because of their mom. From everything said their Mom has been burnt out and jaded from the constant romantic failures. Leading her to deeply resent men in general and she’s been downloading her insecurities on her daughters. Telling them that men should be used for as long as you can hold onto them, men are worthless or untrustworthy, things of that nature. Which leads her daughters to have a very toxic type of love towards the Ed’s that turns into bullying as they start to take their mother’s words to heart. Sexually harassing and abusing the boys and tormenting them in “toxic couple” ways
Edd is the more simple of them and honestly is the most well adjusted. Edd suffers from Asian Parent syndrome. His parents are really busy and work driven so they’re not around a lot but still expect their son to be clean, proper and push him to succeed academically. It pushed Edd to grow up faster than the other kids and is probably what attracted him to the other Ed Boys. They’re a flash of chaos in his life. Two kids that like him for who he is but get him into things that are different from his average life
Ed is the great failure of the family. It’s mentioned in the Show Bible (essentially the Lore Book for the show so all the writers are on the same page of who these characters are) Ed is fully acknowledged to be incredibly dumb to the point it has his parents concerned for his future. Ed’s choice in friends doesn’t help matters. In the actual show it’s revealed that his Dad is a Burnout who comes home after work and just silently reads or watches TV because he has no energy to be a parent after work. This leads the mom to take a lot of the responsibility. Ed isn’t exactly trust worthy in most instances and because of the power of Low Expectations Sarah tends to get preferential treatment. If she blames Ed for something it’s easy for the parents to believe her- and to be fair if you watch the show, yeah anything Ed is blamed for is perfectly believable.
Eddy has the darkest backstory because almost none of it is pleasant. His Dad works at a Used Car Store, his dad is also very authoritative in his parenting style but it’s actually for good reason. We all know about Eddy’s brother and the absolute psycho he was. Eddy made up stories about him but none of it was technically wrong, he just put a positive spin on it every time. Given that knowledge what actually happened was that one day the Dad had enough of the monster under his roof and kicked him out, his brother would never come back or visit so it was probably the whole 9 yards of disownment. The Dad would then work to bury the memory of his son by not just barring off his room but hiding it. Him being strict on Eddy is more than likely a concerned father seeing his son try his best to emulate his brother and desperately wanting him to change course. Pushing him to do well in school, wanting him out of trouble, he wants his last son to be better. Eddy being friends with the other Ed’s is a practice in Chaos but they ultimately were good for him because they’re a bunch of outcasts that wouldn’t judge him.

EEnE music theory time - Symphony No.5 "The Power Hour"
Here's how this score from Smile For the Ed actually sounds. The unrelated page from the other pic plays at 0:22
Had to correct this note into a half-length cause it didn't fit the notation. rookie mistake on this score 🧐
Explanation: there are no accidentals at the start of the score, which indicates on a piano this is played "white keys only", possibly C Major judging by the ending but the exact tonality of the whole melody is unclear (perhaps Rolf's bagpipe could provide a drone as a tonic). Also no time signature is given but the length of notes tells us this is 2/4 (practically not really different from 4/4 standard). The second pic strangely has no time signature at all. Thanks for coming to my talk EDIT: my additional comment on thinking further about this, is that whoever drew this score knows rudimentary staff score writing enough to draw notes of correct length fitting in each bar (excluding that one mistake), I don't think the note lengths fitting perfectly is a coincidence. On the other hand, the sound of it makes me think they drew it without actually thinking how it would sound.
EDIT 2: it occurred to me I should have made the notes legato rather than staccato so here's a more accurate performance (still crap)
