[I’d forgotten to check in and didn’t notice i got a reply over a week ago! :’0! I’ll try to get back into the rhythm of things again this month!]
Alright, so with the exception of an unanswered couple of asks, an owed open, and some miscellaneous posts I could plausibly reply to (but probably wont), my drafts are totally cleared, and, at any rate, I’m not actually starving anyone of replies at the moment (for once). I apologize to everyone I’ve kept waiting, if you’re still around! :00c
At any rate I suppose there’s nothing left to do but opens, huh?
Get Buff or Cry Trying
Effie turned when she heard her name being called. It was time for her to start her training regimen, which most days lasted from sunrise to sunset, unless she was guarding her liege Elise of course. She had brought a few weights to start her warm ups, and she also brought an entire rotisserie chicken as a pre-workout- before- breakfast- snack.
“Oh Jakob, how may I help you?”
Jakob took another deep breath to steady his nerves. Gods this was mortifying...
“I was hoping,” he started, keeping his voice level so as to not betray his underlying shame, “that I could perhaps get some pointers from you, in terms of getting stronger. Where you started, for instance?” This was for Lady Kamui--if he could quadruple his strength for her, he had to try.

Quiet… as much as Takumi loved the peace and quiet, sometimes he found it kind of sad. Melancholic even. Enough to bring down his mood if he thought about it too much. But such was life, wasn’t it? Maybe he yearned to be with other people more than he thought he did. He wasn’t a total loner. But he refused to admit that even to just himself.
Staring at the Go Board with discontent, Takumi let out a frustrated grunt as he set down a white piece in anger. Even this was growing boring. Playing by himself wasn’t always as much fun as he made it out to be. But playing with other people was worse because they were either bad at it or had no regard for the rules and simply liked to fool around. It was only ever fun with Ryoma… maybe Kamui… Father and Mother always bested him at it but they were fun to play with too. But they weren’t around right now, were they?

Jakob had just begun preparing some tea for himself when he’d overheard cacophony from down the hall followed by a dull thud. Figuring it was probably Felicia’s doing, he began arranging a tray, having brought out a second cup figuring, since he was already making tea, and since he’d be checking up on her anyway, she’d probably appreciate a cup as well. It was just good sense, nothing else. Though he heard no cries for help, Jakob wasted no time pouring the tea, not even bothering to stir in sugar, opting instead to have a small bowl of sugar cubes on the tray.
As he rounded the corner, he found, not Felicia, but the youngest Hoshidan prince, Takumi instead, who seemed to be looking for something. Putting two and two together, Jakob huffed and leaned against the doorway in irritation. At least he didn’t have to share any tea, but he’d have to wash more dishes instead.
“What on earth was that racket about?” Jakob asked, barely masking his annoyance.
On White Wings
The heron princess had made her way to the foreign castle to attain an audience with her fellow princess. Rather, they had arranged this meeting earlier in the name of peace. Leanne had no one to lead now – well, not her own people. After the massacre, she was appointed as the official princess of both Kilvas and Phoenicis. She had a long history with their kings, Naesala and Tibarn respectively, and she was the figurehead that’d set out to make connections with lands beyond their own continent.
She was told she could explore the castle grounds freely, as her meeting with Kamui wasn’t until later. Of course, Kamui wasn’t the queen, just as Leanne was not, but the countries were not looking for any sort of major negotiations so much as wishing to learn more information. Leanne had heard fantastic stories about Kamui leading her people down the path she created – the path that she knew was best.
She reminded Leanne a lot of her beloved Ike.
Her train of thought was halted as she heard a voice call out to her. She had been leaning over to examine a nearby flowerbed, but she rose and turned. The man before her certainly looked proper. She had many people that took care of her at the castle, but none dressed much like the one before her. For some reason, though, she felt he was working for one of the members of the royal family. She couldn’t be sure, of course, but she sensed a very dutiful aura from him. His posture spoke volumes to that extent as well.
“Hello, sir…”
She closed her eyes, smiling at the crisp air around them. She was used to wind, as both of her countries were located on small islands surrounded by the vast ocean, but the wind here was gentle.
“I was told I have an audience with Lady Kamui,” she spoke as clearly as she could. A part of her wondered why he wouldn’t have been informed, or that perhaps she had ended up at the wrong castle. The other side of her decided it would be fair to simply explain as well as she could.
“I am Princess Leanne. I am from the continent of Tellius,” she nodded to herself, though her curiosity quickly got the better of her. “Dear sir… are you perhaps one that works for the nobles here?” His presence was unmistakable, she simply had to know.
Continent of... Tellius? He’d never heard of the place--much less any countries there--and he hardly considered himself particularly ignorant on geography. Still, he’d encountered stranger, and heard outrageous claims over his own homeland (though it would make his life simple were it so, the nation of Nohr was not a myth... so absurd...). At any rate, the origins of this Leanne were irrelevant, at least for the moment.
“I see... Princess Leanne, then,” Jakob reiterated, opting the dodge the topic of countries for now, replying as he narrowed his eyes in suspicion, “You would be correct , also, in that I serve the castle’s noble--Lady Kamui.”
The woman’s serene nature reminded him of the similarly enigmatic Lady Azura, and she seemed... nice. Very strange and perhaps a bit naive, but nice. Begrudgingly, he noted this also made her similar to his Lady Corrin, and, try as he might, Jakob couldn’t quite bring himself to dismiss the woman or her claims entirely, or scorn her in any way.
That didn’t mean he wouldn’t be wary.
“...As I said before, I was not informed of any visitors for Lady Kamui today,” he began carefully, after a brief pause, and gestured to a small gazebo, “at any rate, I’ll have to ask that you remain in the garden until I find out otherwise. I’ll leave you to it.” As he turned to walk away, Jakob felt compelled to add, though not without a grimace (thankfully hidden from Leanne herself), “...I’ll return shortly with some tea. We can discuss the nature of your... meeting with Lady Kamui when I return.”
Damn him, he thought he’d outgrown curiosity years ago.
[I’m going to finish clearing my owed drafts out later today or any time tomorrow; asks aside, I owe a starter to Charlotte, in addition to replies to Effie and Leanne. I hope everyone’s doing well! :J

Don’t Cry Over Spilt Tea
“Gods, so much for being early”, Jakob thought bitterly as he surveyed the mess he’d carelessly allowed to happen. Him! The best he could say was that none of the dishes were broken.
He remained still and silently tolerated Nina’s attempts to right the situation, coolly eyeing the snacks she deigned to place back on the tray as if their presence there was a personal insult to him. Her denials were equally grating, especially in that she was clearly trying to hide something. Probably something having to do with the bag.
“…Nina,” Jakob said finally, now staring her down, “What, exactly, is in that bag?”
Her hands immediately went to cover her bag as he asked. “Whuh? Nothing, you know… things… my t-things.” She shook her head. “It’s no big deal, right? Ahahaha… people have bags? Why is m-my possession of a bag suspicious? I-I’m just carrying my stuff somewhere, you know?”
She bent over, and placed another sweet back on the tray, trying to look as calm and collected as she possibly could. “Ahaha… we should clean this u-up…” She laughed nervously, lowering her eyebrows.
Her bag was full of personal things, and maybe a stolen treasure or two. It was her personal stuff, and having it looked over would totally be a violation of her privacy!
If he hadn’t found Nina’s actions suspicious before, Jakob did now. Normally, he’d be torn between feeling ambivalent and wondering if Nina’s shady activities directly affected Kamui or himself; today, however, he was feeling a touch more... petty. Spiteful, even.
Rather than demanding to trifle through her bag, however, Jakob relented: “Indeed, we should, Nina,” he said with an uncharacteristically saccharine smile he usually reserved only for his liege, “as a matter of fact, I have a most splendid idea!”
Flash Fire
Shaking her head was the short answer, the long answer being a resoundingly bored, “Nooo…”
Mind you, she wasn’t refusing wasn’t out of cruelty or because she wanted to watch the world (table?) burn. She just thought it was exciting to see a fire in a castle for once in her life. As she stared into the flames engulfing everything in its path, she thought to herself, This is pretty… interesting.
A faint smile appeared on her face. So distracted by the flames, she failed to notice Felicia’s frantic puppy dog eyes until the flames had spread to a wooden bowl of mashed potatoes.
“Oh,” she said. “So you need help?”
She sighed and walked toward the fire, not flinching when it crackled angrily. No, all she did was grab a glass pitcher of water and then slowly amble back to Felicia. She handed it to her.
“Here you go.”
After all, Setsuna had no intention of actually doing anything herself. That would be too much effort.
Felicia sighed as Setsuna gave her the pitcher of water. “Uh… thanks I guess…?” Felicia thanked with uncertainty. For some reason Felicia expected more from Setsuna but was sorely mistaken and a bit disappointed. Felicia ran over to the fire and quickly tried to douse the flame with the pitcher water.
Wait….
Wasn’t this suppose to be the part where the flames were extinguished? Why was it growing bigger?
It was at that moment that Felicia gasped in horror. “O-oh no! I forgot it was a grease fire!!! Water doesn’t help with that. O-oh no no no! What do we do?!?” She exclaimed as she grabbed Setsuna by the shoulders and shook her in panic.
Even if Jakob could find it in himself to ignore the commotion from the other room--which, try as he might, he couldn’t--he could not ignore the smoke trailing from the room, nor the smell.
Covering the lower part of his face with his cravat as a makeshift gas mask, the acrid smoke already irritating his throat and lungs, he risked a glance in the room, and was both relieved and very annoyed at the scene before him: the fire was fairly sizable, but limited to the table thus far; Felicia had apparently given into a blind panic, had Setsuna in a grip, and was shaking her; Setsuna was... there.
“Felicia!” Jakob barked in an effort to get the panicked maid’s attention, “what’s going on?” He scould scold them later--right now he needed to figure out how to fix this, and fast.
Pie Day
It was a relatively peaceful day at the court, as well as yet another slow one. Corrin had decided to spend the day with some friends, and insisted that she’d be going out–and that Jakob didn’t need to. Which normally would have annoyed him, but Corrin’s friends weren’t necessarily his anyway. It was also a good opportunity to work through chores at a leisurely pace, as well as take all the naps he pleased.
One such nap was interrupted when a particular scent invaded his consciousness, nagging at him until he woke up. Waking with a start, Jakob wasted no time rushing to the kitchen; while whatever must have been cooking smelled quite wonderful, he could also detect the faintest hint of burning. He’d worked with too many of all the wrong people to assume it was already under control.
He did not slow down, even when he was a few feet from the kitchen’s doorway, and in his anxiousness, did not notice that while the smells were getting more strong from proximity, the smell of burning was not.
Felicia turned when she noticed Jacob in the doorway. “Oh! Jakob, I hope you’re doing well today! I’m doing fantastic! I finally made a decent pie, and in fact, it’s the best pie I’ve ever made!” Felicia smiled proudly. “Would you like to try a piece?” She asked her colleague, hopeful to impress him with her new fond “talent”. “It’s cooling by the window right now. I have to make sure it’s at the perfect temperature to serve to Lady Corrin!”
Jakob stared incredulously, daring to relax only slightly. Typically Felicia being calm was a good sign--a major issue with her various accidents was the edge of panic she had in dealing with them--but it wasn’t a guarantee things couldn’t still go wrong. That said, there wasn’t a fire, and now that Jakob had bothered to re-evaluate the situation, he was able to realize that the smell of smoke was already subsiding. Somehow, he wasn’t exactly pleased to learn this, given that it meant that he’d gotten himself wound up over nothing; that, and he knew that, with Felicia, this was the exception to the rule rather than the new rule.
For the same reason, he elected to not point out the fact that Felicia could probably cool the pie down herself.
With a huff, Jakob relaxed against the doorway and finally replied, “I’m doing well today, Felicia,” pointedly ignoring her offer that he try a slice, “so...pie? Is there any particular occasion I’m unaware of, or is this simply more of your practicing?”
Get Buff or Cry Trying
@crunchmunchmunch
He would never, not ever, be caught dead saying such aloud, but Jakob--rarely, bordering on never--had moments where he’d catch himself measuring his talents up against those of others’ and find himself dissatisfied with his own results. He’d even find himself feeling slightly, just a little bit, envious as a result.
Effie in particular was the subject of such attentions on his part; it had been so easy initially to write her off as just a muscle-bound simpleton, but, frankly, the feats she accomplished defied the realms of possibility. All in the name of Lady Elise. Which compared to Jakob’s doing a variety of simple chores for Lady Corrin, made him look insignificant. Especially considering that, apparently, Effie worked her way up to that superhuman strength. Compared to all the effort he’d put in just to be the competent butler he was now...
He would not be satisfied with sitting idly around while others showed him and his loyalty to Corrin up, and so, he’d made his way to the training grounds in the hopes of actually attempting to compete with Effie.
Of course, the knight herself was there, already going through the motions of her own routine, by the time he’d arrived. Jakob was annoyed, but unsurprised. He decided that so long as he kept to himself, there was little reason to be particularly bothered by Effie’s presence; he rationally understood that Effie didn’t view him with the same competitive light he’d come to see her in, and he didn’t greatly care if she--or anyone, really--witnessed him train (unlike a certain prince). More to the point, Effie was rather aloof and tended to keep to herself, so there was little to fear in that regard.
However, Jakob had no idea where to begin building muscle, or, really, what sort of strength even mattered--he never found his strength lacking for housework, or battle, and, even for the latter, he was never trained with front-line duty in mind, but efficiently eliminating would-be threats to his liege in close, closed, quarters, preferably with the element of surprise. Jakob decided that, were someone to get the drop on him, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have more strength. It was a somewhat over-the-top scenario, unlikely to happen for a variety of reasons, but it was in Lady Corrin’s best interest that he remain prudent, after all.
Upon that self-reflection, Jakob realized another flaw in his plan and huffed, irritated that it failed to occur to him prior to now: as he’d stressed time and time again to others, solo training was worthless. Especially in areas one does not already excel. Taking a deep breath, he decided to swallow his pride, and called, “Excuse me, Effie?”
Butler for a Day {Corrin & Jakob}
Jakob’s confirmation that he had the chills only served to further worry Corrin. She knew he was sick, and at this point it wasn’t even a question of exactly how sick he was. He was fatigued, shivering, and he seemed to be dizzy as well… Not to mention the fact that she was positive he was running a fever on top of it all.
She looked down to see him leaning against her. She had taken the opportunity to try to help him upright with her arm, but he was quick to notice and jolt away. A small sigh escaped her as he began to speak again.
“Believe me, Jakob, I know you’re serious,” she responded, her hand recoiling. She had no intentions of deliberately getting herself sick, of course, but if everyone avoided those that were ill or otherwise incapacitated… there would be no healers. Granted, she wasn’t a healer by any stretch of the imagination when it came to wounds or illness, but certainly she could afford to exercise some basic human care.
She hadn’t really had to physically care for anyone before; rather, Jakob was always the one caring for her. Because of that, though, Corrin knew a thing or two about the procedures. She wanted to start off by making sure he was comfortable, in other words off the floor, so that he wouldn’t experience any muscular cramps. Being in bed would also help him control his temperature; he’d be able to open the windows or use the blanket depending on how he felt.
She winced as he finally spoke again. She knew he’d be difficult to deal with if she got sick from this; she was well-aware. Yet, now that it was a confirmed consequence, she was nervous. She didn’t want Jakob to resent her or himself for something as benign as coming down with an illness. She lowered her eyes, wondering what the proper course of action was.
“I’m sorry I’ve been so… forceful,” Corrin managed to push the last word out with some work. In her effort to emulate Jakob’s seemingly flawless performance, she simply became pushy and almost frustrated that things weren’t going as smoothly for her as they did for him. He wasn’t forceful, but he had a way about him that was sort of… all-business, in a way.
“I promise I’ll do my best not to get sick… just,” she looked away, seemingly embarrassed. “Let me take care of you for a day. It’s just one day.”
Jakob frowned at her apology, at how hurt it sounded, and guiltily glanced down to avoid looking at her. He knew full well that Corrin was not in the wrong here.
“You needn’t apologize,” he murmured, “as you’ve said, you are just looking out for me...” With a sigh, Jakob, added, “I actually owe you an apology, Lady Corrin, for seeming impudent. I do not mean to question your capabilities, nor your judgement.”
He had to relent--on everything. If he wasn’t doing everything in his power to get well faster, it was as good as letting her down. The longer he was sick, the longer she would be in danger of falling ill herself, and besides, there was no way Jakob would be able to convince her not to attempt his duties, making more work for her--moreover, the longer he spent away from his job, the more out of practice he would be for when he returned to it... So on. Jakob needed to be cooperative. It wouldn’t be purely self-serving to receive help from Corrin here and rest. It would be nothing but reckless to try and soldier on.
It came as a surprise to him that Corrin--firm, adamant, determined Corrin--relented somewhat. It was more or less a variant of the same arrangement, but where previously there’d been the hint of an open-endedness to her serving Jakob, she’d now emphasised a timeline. He found himself at a loss for what to say, especially given that she seemed flustered over having said it.
“I--” Jakob stopped himself before he responded immediately, and took a moment to think and collect himself before replying, “My lady, if you insist, then I will remain bedridden for the rest of this day. However... You’re right. I do need to ensure that I actually get well. I will not lie to you about my condition, come tomorrow...” With a weary sigh, he continued, “However, promise me that, no matter what you observe or what I say, that you will not continue trying to assume my duties on top of your own, Lady Corrin. These are my terms.”
With a sheepish smile, Jakob added, “I cannot help but worry about your health, and while I appreciate you saying you will take care not to fall ill, I still must emphasise: you should look after your own well-being more than mine.”
Meanwhile, Jakob (Flash Fire)

Pie Day
@dourbutler
Yes! She had finally done it! After months of trial of error she did it! Felicia had finally baked, the perfect pie. Well, it wasn’t perfect persay. It was lopsided and a bit burnt but to Felicia, it was perfect because it was editable, unlike her numerous other attempts.
“Now, the only thing left to do! I must let it cool. Lady Corrin will be so proud of me.” She hummed happily.
It was a relitively peaceful day at the court, as well as yet another slow one. laundry || jakob [revelation]
@dourbutler
“What do you think you’re doing?” Camilla purred as her voice rang out in the cobblestone hallway, echoing just well enough that she barely had to raise her voice at all. Unimpressed was one emotion that could be used to describe the sight she saw before her, as she glared at the white-haired butler before her.
It wasn’t unusual, she knew, but with the strain of the war and the limited supplies and resources that they had already, Camilla had taken it upon herself to try and take care of as many tasks as possible to help her dear sister in more ways than being deadly on the battlefield.
Unfortunately for Jakob, this included Corrin’s laundry.
“If you’re trying to do my dear sister’s laundry and set out her clothes, you’re doing a miserable job.” Camilla stated as she tapped her foot on the ground expectantly, scanning over the clothes in the bin that he seemed to be carrying - eyes instantly narrowing on an offending garment.
“Really? That cape with that blouse?” She plucked it from the bin and held it in front of her, a finger curling around her purple locks as she tsk’d to him, sweeping it under her arm. “Fortunately for you, I’m going to save my dear Corrin from disaster.”
Jakob strolled through the halls quickly as he made his way to Corrin’s room her day’s attire folded neatly atop the clothes bin he carried; it was a typical morning, save for his rare good mood at the hour, and he decided he’d savor it while he could. He’d been about to greet Camilla upon spotting her, only to be (quite rudely) confronted over some nonsense regarding the clothes he’d chosen for Corrin. Camilla went so far as to snatch up a cape she’d deemed particularly offensive
Jakob suppressed the immediate urge to snatch the garment back and retorted with a sneer, “The blouse is black, a neutral colour! Therefore: the cape goes just fine with it!” On any other day, he would have called Camilla on her bluff. It was so obvious to him what this was really about--that she was jealous of any time others spent with Corrin that she couldn’t. After all, he was no stranger to such feelings himself! At any rate, Jakob could find it in himself not to embarrass her with what was obvious to him, if no one else. That, and the situation struck him as odd in that it was happening at all.
“Lady Camilla, what on earth are you even doing up at this hour? ” he asked, letting his previous frustration ebb away, “are you unwell?” Indeed, Camilla seemed like the type of woman who revelled in sleeping in. Hell, if it wasn’t literally a requirement of his job, Jakob would never get up before the sun rose, ever. “At any rate, you ought to return that cape to me,” he continued, with a huff, “I want to make it to Lady Corrin’s room before someone wakes her.”

Hey Leanne, it's watermelon season! -Hands u a watermelon- Enjoy.
……
Leanne stared at the fruit. It wasn’t exactly rare for her to be confused, so she mostly brushed aside the question of why exactly someone handed her a watermelon.
After all, her childish excitement was quicker to take over anyway. It was a watermelon - a whole, ripe, delicious watermelon! The others in the castle would often surprise her with gifts that were either cute or sweet, and watermelon was sweet.
“Thank you…!”
She hoped to be able to partake in the fruit with someone who wasn’t busy that day. After all, she certainly couldn’t eat the entire thing by herself.
She suddenly smiled.
“Would you like to share this with me?”
“If you insist.”
