A year of writing [2025]

2025 is almost over. In a few days, we'll all tip over into 2026.

Roughly a year ago, I tracked my writing for a couple of months as part of a November writing challenge. The conclusion was that I probably don't respond well to challenges pushing me to write, and that I end up writing less as a result. I also thought that I might, just maybe, continue to track my writing, to be able to reflect back on it over a longer period of time.

Well, guess what I've been doing since then?

Cue, a whole lot of numbers:

Some quick ones:

From October 2024 to now, I've written a total of 98 332 words

In 2025, I've written 65 180 words

If I'd written every day, that would be 178,6 words/day

I have clearly not been writing every day; in fact, I wrote on 94 days of 2025

That's 271 days of no writing

I wrote the most in October 2024

In 2025, I wrote the most in September

I wrote the least this past month, in November, with a grand total of 0 words

Ok... so what do the numbers actually say?

As already noted last year, there are outside factors affecting my writing.

As like for many others, 2025 has been a tough year and I have been struggling. I'm not going to get into details, but my wellbeing has not been great. Can you guess which month I felt the worst? April. After getting some rest in October of 2024, I steadily got worse again, with my all time low happening in April, which explains the dip in wordcount.

From there, things gradually started getting better, which is also reflected in the steadily climbing wordcounts of May - September. I wasn't pushing myself to write, but I was writing when I felt like it and I was slowly getting back into it. By September, I'd written, edited and posted up to chapter 8 of The Author, wrapping up the first act of the story!

And then - October. I started working more, and we were moving towards autumn. Writing-wise, I felt like I'd hit a good spot to take a pause from The Author to plan ahead and build up more of a writing buffer. I decided to take a break. My wordcounts plummeted, leading to no words written from the middle of October to the later half of December.

Not a single word, for a total of two months.

Do I mind?

No.

When I stopped focusing on writing, and turning all my creative energy to writing, I started getting other ideas. I've ranted at friends about random story ideas and characters who've cropped up. I've been spending time on crafts, trying new things and making things with my hands; things that turned into gifts that I could give to friends. I've been drawing, and exploring ideas around grames, and poking at animation. I've been creating, and learning new things, and I've been having fun with it.

No, I'm not giving up on The Author. Yes, I am definitely coming back to writing. Those past few days of writing in December that you're seeing are proof of that. But I also want to have the mental and creative space to discover and try new, fun things, to grow in a random, uncontrollable manner in a lot of different directions. And I absolutely, 100%, believe that it'll enrich me and my writing in the end.

Last year, when I reflected on my writing, I finished with a sentence that was a hope as much as it was a goal. That sentence still holds true.

"Most importantly, I am planning to write when I want to, because I want to - and I am planning to have fun with it."

Take care of yourselves, and be kind to yourselves. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that 2026 will offer a lot of fun opportunities that'll let us explore new things.

And remember: even if things can be really fucking awful, it gets better.

Idk if anyone already talked about this but watching Heated Rivalry Episode 6, I fixated on one small detail 🫠

When Shane's dad says "I just didn't think you'd be so friendly with Rozanov", Ilya immediately tells him his name, and David corrects himself.

I honestly don't think Ilya said his name to interrupt, ragebait or be more chaotic like his usual self. But calling him Rozanov - it's for strangers, for coaches, for hockey fans, if you call someone in Russian by their surname only (not full name) - it can be either neutral-dismissive or even slightly offensive and scary, like a teacher scolding a student. Calling by the first name is friendly. In my opinion, Ilya, by offering his name, was bridging the gap between him and Shane's father, taking the first brave step to test the waters🥺

That felt like establishing relationship (when Russians meet someone outside of established hierarchy setting, they negotiate formal/informal You and decide how to call each other - full name, first name, short/diminutive name etc). He could probably say "Just Ilya" if he meant this exact thing but I love headcanonning this is what he meant. But the dad thought he was correcting so he apologized maybe😆

AND ANOTHER detail. The dialogue goes:

– Rozanov.

– Ilya (stress on A, correct Rus pronunciation)

– Ilya (stress on A, foreign pronunciation)

That just made me smile for no reason, aaaah the amount of care they put into teaching Connor Russian! He stresses so many Russian words the correct way, and he uses correct intonation (especially sarcastic one) in situations that is so difficult for a foreigner!

The fact that they made sure to use different pronunciation in a brief exchange when Ilya says his own name and David says his name - chef's kiss.

🫠🫠🫠 When I watch Connor portray Ilya Rozanov, I feel like a starved kitten that's finally been fed for the first time by some random on the street (< Canadian tax payer & HR crew)

Chapter 8 of The Author, "The First Time", is finally up!!!

With that we are across the 50k threshold and closing out Act 1 of the story!

Chapter 8 picks up right where chapter 7 left off, and since it's been a while, I'm thinking a little refreshner might do us all some good:

“Behave,” James said, and his voice had darkened as well. “Or we’ll never make it into the bedroom.”  [...] His bottom lip looking bruised, James gave him a crooked smile, then pulled Aiden up. Aiden gasped, scrambling for a grip around James’s neck when James suddenly lifted him off the bloody floor. Aiden clung to him, legs wrapping around James’s waist, and stared at him.  James grinned. He looked as if this was nothing, as if Aiden weighed nothing.  He squeezed Aiden’s arse and waggled his brows at him.  “Let’s take this to the bedroom, shall we?”

6 MONTHS OF THE AUTHOR 🥳

On the 25th of April, it'll be half a year since I took the leap and uploaded the first chapter of The Author onto Ao3!

This story, that was initially supposed to be a collection of loosely connected short stories about James and Aiden having a lot of kinky fun, has evolved into a more linear story about our boys. Considering I'm the one writing it (I, who love plotting, planning and outlining), I guess I shouldn't be surprised that we've now got loosely defined arcs and character developments ahead of us - as well as some tasty, yummy background reveals!

To celebrate, I am posting chapter 5 and letting you all know that I've set up a Kofi page! I'm not expecting anything, but am trying to work with the mindset that if I want something to happen, I'll have to set up opportunities for things to happen - so that's what the Kofi page is! Of course, if anyone has some change scrambling around that they want to share in support of my writing, I would be incredibly grateful!

Thank you, really and truly, for the support that you have shown The Author thus far. I have been gifted with the most incredible readers and online friends, and you are making this story (and my experience writing and publishig it!) a joy.

I've started editing chapter 5 of The Author, The Box Part II.

It's nearly 8 000 words long. That's 18 pages. And that's after I cut it in half and turned it into Part I and II.

I need to restrain myself and keep my chapters shorter, if only to spare my own sanity when it comes to editing.

Writing about The Box™️ was so much fun tho 🙈

First part of chapter 5, "The Box Part II", to get cut (with @7nessasaryevils's reluctant blessing):

Tipping his head to the side, Aiden frowned. One of the boxes left had a picture of two rounded parts connected with what looked like a tube? He picked it up and held it up for James with a look of askance, and James’s eyes glittered. 

“That’s an anal plug,” he said and held his hand out for the box. 

“Why’s it got two ends?” Aiden asked as he handed the box to James. “Do you like… use it together?” 

“No, this is just for one person.” James opened the box and pulled the thing out, holding one rounded end in each hand. Now that it was out of the box, Aiden could see that one of the ends had a flared bottom. “It inflates,” James said and pressed the round bit on one side. 

It hissed–and the other end swelled. 

“You put it in when it’s deflated, and then you pump it up when it’s inside.” James pumped it, and Aiden watched in horrified fascination as the plug grew and grew. It didn’t stop until it was a round ball that had to be at least 4 inches wide. 

“That can’t possibly fit inside…”

“Trust me, it can.” 

James turned a little thing on the side of the pump, and the plug deflated with a quiet hiss. He took one look at Aiden’s face and chuckled. 

“I suggest we return to this one at a later time,” he said and put the inflatable dildo back into its box. 

Aiden swallowed and quickly grabbed the next thing from the box.

Ok, this is the last chunk that I've axed from chapter 5! All in all, I think I've edited out about 500 words.

James reached into the box and held up a long, thin box. “Ah. How do we feel about urethral insertion?” 

He turned the box around for Aiden to see the picture on the front and Aiden blinked. The picture of the toy looked like… a very drawn out sperm, maybe? There was a slightly thicker part, and then a long, thin tail that tapered off into a tip. 

“Urethra… what?”

“It’s inserted into the penis,” James said calmly. “It stimulates the urethral duct which can be very pleasurable on its own, but if inserted deep enough, it can also be a way to stimulate the prostate.” 

Eyes wide, Aiden stared at the picture on the box. “You mean that thing, it– it goes into the–?”  His hands flew to cover his crotch. 

“Yes, but if you don’t think that’s something that’s going to interest you, then we don’t need to try it.” James put the box away, and Aiden gratefully noted that he put it on the opposite side of the bed from Aiden. 

The thought of having that inserted into his penis was almost scarier than those massive monster dildos.

To the sound of metallic rattling, James pulled a bunch of chains out of the box. Some were as thick as a thumb, while the thinnest was no more than a few millimetres. Most of them were silvery, but a few were more bronze coloured.

“I should have packed them more carefully, they’re all tangled…” 

Picking them apart, James separated the chains into three different pieces and laid them out onto the bed. 

“What are they for?” Aiden asked, running his fingers along one of them. 

“Wearing. This one here, with the thick chains? This goes around the shoulders, and then these chains go across the chest.”

Frowning, Aiden tried to picture it. “Would you wear it… with clothes?” 

“You could, but this one looks better bare chested. This other one,” James picked at the harness made of thin silver chains, “looks really good under a blazer though. See how it’s like a halterneck, and the many chains create a front? The silver goes very well with a black blazer that I have.”

Writing Tag Game

I got tagged by @dropthedemiurge to brag and ponder about my stories, so here we go! Thank you, Lex!

1. How many works do you have on AO3? -> 16!

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? -> 112,660 words~!

3. What fandoms do you write for? -> I've posted fanfics for 빈센조/Vincenzo, Kinnporsche, The Sign, My Personal Weatherman, Playboyy and Only Friends - and have fic ideas for several other fandoms that haven't gotten written (may I refer you to the WIP tag game I've answered?)

Since dropping the fandom that was, for many years, my one main fandom, I've actively worked to branch out and write for a variety of fandoms instead! Since I mainly watch K-dramas and Thai BL series, that's were most of the fanfic ideas come from!

My current focus is my original story The Author (also on Ao3), so I haven't written any fanfics for a little while.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? -> 1) Held [The Sign] 2)The Look [My Personal Weatherman] 3) Quiet Things [The Sign] 4) Gatto Sazio (The Man That Luca Knows) [Vincenzo] 5)Not Nant [Playboyy]

5. Do you respond to comments? -> Yes! I love getting comments and want my readers to know it, so I do my best to answer even tho I don't answer immediately! I do know a comment here or there slips through and goes unanswered, but I do make it my goal to try to answer all of them in due time!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? -> I don't generally write angsty endings, so I'll have to pick a fic that I don't even have on Ao3 anymore. It was a not very healthy summer romance that got ripped apart at the end.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? -> Oooh, now that's a difficult question... Probably Held or Quiet Things; Held because it's a bit longer and so I could take the characters (and readers) through more angsty bits before we got the pay off of a happy end, and Quiet Things because it's just such a short, sweet, domestic little oneshot that's good feelings throughout.

8. Do you get hate on fics? -> No, not at all! I've been lucky to get some of the most wonderful readers!

9. Do you write smut? -> I do! Most of my writing is E-rated and very smutty.

10. Do you write crossovers? -> Yeeees.... kinda.... as in, I have been on and off writing a crossover fic with Vincenzo and Kinnporsche, but I don't have any published crossovers (yet).

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? -> Not that I know of?

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? -> Yes, a few, but none of them are on Ao3 anymore.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? -> No. I've talked with people about doing it a few times, but then inspiration decides to wander in another direction and life happens and nothing has come of it - yet!

14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? -> Lucien Villamonte is my oldest story (original) that has been living in my head for almost 15 years now. I've lost count of how many times I've started writing on it, and in the meantime the story has just grown bigger and bigger. It is now this massive piece of worldbuilding and lore and intrigue, and the story stretches over decades. I love the world, and the story, and the main character Lucien, but I don't know if I'll ever actually be able to write his story and share it with the world.

15. What are your writing strengths? -> I really enjoy plotting, planning and outlining stories, so I've gotten pretty good at it! I've also been working on creating engaging writing that sucks the reader in and evoking the feelings I want the reader to experience, so those are some things I've gotten better at but want to work on further!

16. What are your writing weaknesses? -> Action scenes! First figuring out what happens and how, and then conveying that in a clear manner that doesn't stop the momentum - I find action scenes to be some of the most difficult scenes to write!

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? -> Oh, yes! I have done it, and I have read stories that do it really well, and I think it can be an incredible way to enrich a story and round out a character! That doesn't mean it's easy; there are many ways of approaching it, and I'd love to explore it further in future writing!

18. First fandom you wrote for? -> I thiiiiink the first fanfic I ever wrote was for Bleach? Or rather, I wrote a thing and then I just switched out the names of the characters to those of Bleach characters - it was Ichigo, Grimmjow and..... Renji, maybe? I don't rememeber, it's a long time ago.

19. Favourite fic you’ve written? -> Unfortunately, it's among those that I've since taken down, but among the ones that I have up on Ao3... I'm very fond of the "Luca Knows" series of oneshots I've written for Vincenzo, and of course the original story The Author that I'm currently writing is very special to me.
