Here Comes Goodbye || Self Para
As she walked through the front door, she stood still for a moment. Taking in the sights, the sounds, the smell. She allowed the feeling of the drizzle on the cold January day to follow her inside the building and allowed herself a moment of peace. She smiled to herself mostly and closed her eyes. This feeling might never find her again and she wanted to treasure it. After many years in this place this is how she wanted to remember it. This is how she wanted to look back and remember Seattle Grace.
Taking her first step forward after a moment she looked up, looked around her, so many faces. Some she knew others she wouldnāt and some she would never know. She was releasing her last patient today. The last patient she would have at this hospital. She was dressed for the occasion. She favorite top, Olive green and so soft it felt like silk on her skin, her favorite dress pants. The ones that fit her perfectly, hung on her curves just right. She always felt powerful and sexy in this outfit. She had woken up early to do her hair and makeup as close to perfect as she could manage and when she left her apartment for the last time this morning, she knew that this next chapter would be her best yet.
Stepping into the hallways reserved for patients being carted to the operating rooms and surgeons who were preparing to do what they do best, heal by inflicting wounds. It was a strange thing being a surgeon. But there was no other place she would want to be.
Walking the halls. She smiled to herself. They would still be standing long after she left. More patients. New doctors. Her name would be forgotten eventually but the work that was done here would live on forever in her patients minds.
New adventures for herself were ahead and a family of doctors and friends would be left behind. But she knew that some things would never be forgotten.
Saying goodbye to this place was a beautiful thing.
All of these motions. And still there were many feelings missing from her heart. She saw one of the first bathrooms that she cried in and her heart remembered that day well. She was one of the first patient rooms that she would return to after losing her first patient and her heart ached. She saw the nurses, the techs, the interns, the now residents that she worked with every day for the last several years and she wasnāt saying goodbye to just some job, some building, some life. She was saying goodbye to her family.
Walking into the chiefs office to give him one last hug. To say goodbye. To turn in her final patient chart to him as he looked to replace her. To fill a vacancy.
She walked down to HR and turned in her credentials. And she walked out of the hospital no longer a surgeon employed by this place. But just another girl, in search of her next great adventure.
