What's stopping me? Why shouldn't I post the Illithid section from Lords of Madness?

I may do this for other books, not the Illithiad, though. That's like 93 pages worth of squid, even if it's mostly pictures, I ain't doin' all that 💀

Also keep in mind, every book contradicts each other, and sometimes even itself between pages. Don't feel bad about picking and choosing based on your own project.

It's worth mentioning that Dawn of the Overmind is the third and final part of an illithid-themed tabletop campaign, preceded by A Darkness Gathering and Masters of Eternal Night (could not find a complete PDF for that one, sorry).

I see that you lost the ask, so here it is, with several more!

All of these come from Ed Greenwood, creator of the Realms and mastermind behind the Alhoon.

As per Ed's Contract with TSR (and now WotC), Ed Greenwood retains the right to create lore for the Forgotten Realms, all of which is to be considered canonical.

This first one is a bite-sized chunk from a Patreon post. For more Realmslore, of course, anyone should go and become his patron.

What Illithids Know Of Toril, And Beyond

Illithids guard information jealously, not sharing outside of a community and seeking to tie personal status within a community to being “in the know,” so they don’t easily, widely, or swiftly share. This hampers their world-views in a heavy and ongoing manner.

This issue is mostly about symbionts! One of my favorite illithid items, which has since mostly been dropped from the lore, or at the very least, shifted to being a General Thing, at least as far as the wiki for them goes. This issue also has one of my favorite illithid depictions and inspired me to make my oc Diadem!

Very little actually about mindflayers in 281, but it does have personal names. Do keep in mind that this issue has been seen by many people, so if you do plan to use them to name your character, be aware that you might eventually come across another illithid with the same name.
