The Bells
Making Micah a Bolton was a decision I did not sway while making even once. This was one of the earlier ones I did (in pt.3 on my tt), and it featured my first design of an unseen character: Micah’s brother Amos. I really like the idea of Micah being the embodiment of what we know an heir to Dreadfort to be, while Amos, initially similar to his brother in their youth, changes after marrying and having daughters. I tried to convey this sort of disparity between their characters in the illustration.
Someone once suggested Micah to be a Lannister, which I could sorta see, so I decided to make their maternal branch of their family tree Lannisters.
Cornwall and Bronte
Speaking of Lannisters, I obviously had to make the richest man we know from this house. Cornwall reminds me of Tywin, except just less cool. They share a similarity in their capital and the greed to continue adding to it.
I made Bronte from house Serret simply because its sigil is a peacock and because it is another house from the Westernlands, making a clear connection between Bronte’s and Cornwall’s houses. I further solidified this connection with a marital alliance between Cornwall’s heir (only son after three previous attempts as seen in the family tree) and Bronte’s sister. I did not draw them initially with this in mind, but now I cannot help but see that drawing of them as a very possible interaction on an incredibly suffocating family gathering. Bronte’s definitely trying to get a cut of that year’s gold yield.
The Pinkertons
I did consider making the Pinkertons all from one house or making them the Kingsguard or maybe just Gold cloaks, but that would not make them connected to Cornwall specifically. So, instead, I went digging in the wiki and found that at some point, a knight from house Yew and a knight from house Ruttiger were entrusted by a Lannister to keep an eye out for some boats or something of that nature during the siege of Riverrun. Both of these were houses of landed knights which I then assigned to Edgar Ross (Ruttiger) and agent Milton (Yew) purely based on vibes.
Another choice that just spoke to me. Colm simply has this musty aura that mirrors Walder Frey. Also, knowing how many kids and relatives that guy (Walder) had, I can see them getting to some O’driscoll numbers in terms of men. I tried to achieve that by giving Colm some extra half brothers and four sons, but I got too lazy to add even more branches to that family tree. Imagine there’s like a shit ton of extra cousins and whatnot.
On the topic of an extra brother or too, notice the inclusion of Colm’s dead brother (canon) and also the fact that I made Kieran their youngest brother’s son. This gives him a direct link to the rest of the O’driscolls, and, if you want to follow canon game story, it also gives a very plausible similar fate that Kieran might meet. If there is one house we know to be capable of making a headless horseman (rip Robb Stark), it is the Freys.
