i am using lovely dividers created by @soulbeastdragon <3
First off, my original characters do not always follow canon. I have Firstborn, Fractalborn
Character List!
This is a work in progress. Eventually I'll have this filled out with all my characters and their art, but for now its just gonna be some basic info and hotlinks.
Sylvari
Salvian Ris - 'Ol faithful whose seen some shit. former nightmare mesmer turned six-time Elder Dragon slayer. Just wants a break so he can drink tea and garden at his homestead with his husband, but Tyria keeps happening. he/him gay
Amaranthus Ris - Salvian's husband, a sylvari from a fractal created by the astral ward, where the pale tree was raised by Mad King Thorn. gender = berserker boi smashes local demon
Omphelia "Le'praetor" Ris - Salvian's twin sister who was born with a chip on her shoulder. Can be found bashing in the skulls of White Mantle racists or obliterating souls in the Mists Wars. Aro ace diva who will cut a bitch. Recovering bloodstone addict
Daphne Sol - My youngest character, a chipper and happy-go-lucky druidess who awakened the dawn after the world summit. Her Wyld Hunt is to heal the pale tree. Is frequently in the company of Caer, and maybe a little bit in love with him. When she's not in the Grove, she's taking a hike along the Tarnished Coast or frolicking in the meadows of Janthir.
Sardonix Rex - Awakened during the cycle of dusk. those present at his awakening recall his pod being withered and smokey, almost ghastly. having no dream, he called himself sardonix rex. he fell to the Nightmare easily, as he had the voice of Firstborn Caderyn in his ear tempting him to shadow. during the events of HoT, he attended the battle against Mordremoth as the bodyguard of Duchess Chrysanthea, finding Mordremoth's yoke even more onerous than the Pale Tree's. When the dragon fell, he distanced himself from the Nightmare, instead choosing a path of Soundlessness to work with spirits on his own terms.
Firstborn Thanatos - my new scourge necro. has complicated feelings about being the first awakened sylvari, and those feelings typically manifest as "grumpy" and "better than you"
Llewellyn- Ard-Sylvari ranger who lost ten years of his life in a rabid hunting pack in the Mists. Now that he's back in Tyria, he just wants to play with Janthiri bees
Charr
(pictures coming soon!)
Cassius Marrowslake - Absolutely feral charr gladium whose warband was killed by the invading Awakened during lws4. Since then, he has retreated to the wilderness and begun bonding with the souls of animals, naming them after his dead warbandmates.
Imperator Fulminora Thunderhead - After her Fractalborn Olmakhan were blown off course and stranded on Janthir Syntri, Fulminora gathered the survivors and formed the Thunder warband, pleading with Decima and the other Titans for forgiveness for their insolence.
Atticus Fluxbreaker - If hack-em slice-em was a charr, it would be Atticus. Charging into battle with his greataxe, he can break a horde of enemies faster than Decima can sneer 'squash-em!'
Verania Scorchbringer - A Flame Legion shaman who is dissatisfied with how the Legion treats women. She transitioned to female as an act of defiance and to prove that women should be able to hold positions in the shaman caste.
Olywn - My silly Olmacat boy who really likes making sand castles
Aerion is my blood elf paladin that I play in my friend's WoW campaign, set immediately after the sacking of QuelāThalas. Its in the aftermath of this battle that he begins to contemplate what exactly he stands for. For vengeance? For the realm? For a prince?
Certainly not a prince, he would decide, passing heavy judgement on Arthas's own undead thralls who once followed him out of loyalty to a crown. Kael'Thas, he decided, would drag the elves even deeper into the conflict, leading to even more spilt blood. A scattered few thousand elves remained alive at this point- the most imperative task at hand is to rebuild and take a defensive position against the coming age of darkness. He dedicates himself to the ideals of country and kin, swearing to defend the living and avenge the dead.
Another npc who survived his plotline so he can graduate to full character. Young troubled idiot who joined the Inquest believing he was opposing the Ward's tyranny. He was one out of three members of his team who survived being fed into an impossible boss fight bc the Inquest sucks and everyone's disposable. Nowadays he's just a merc for hire
being the guy who 3d prints for all the dnd campaigns he's in feels like dark magic... like here let me pray that my ritual to make this strange metal artifact, pool of primordial cancer goo, and alien light that makes things glow goes well and summons forth avatars from the depths of my imagination. however it also casts cloudkill. which is non negotiable unfortunately.
Thoughts on Guild Wars 3
Damn. Y'all know that I'm a big time sylvari main, 80% of my characters are sylvari. It's gonna really suck to not be able to play one, especially since it seems like they'd be the best-looking race in this artstyle.
Speaking of, the style doesn't grab me at all. The super-stylized plastic texture might be nicer if the colors and saturation were more realistic, which is what I loved about GW2. It feels grounded, except for where places are truly fantastic, like the Brand or more recently, Castora. When everything feels like that, what's special about it? It just looks like Fortnite/Dauntless slop and I'm not really here for it unfortunately. Hopefully that was just a stylized trailer and not an actual representation of the graphics, but we won't know for a while.
I know I've been reposting a lot of GW3 hype, and I do want to clarify, I am excited! I really, honestly am. The idea of getting to play a new race like a kodan, or style a race I'm not particularly fond of... (asura) in a completely new way is exciting. Not to mention, I doubt we'll have less races than GW2- we'll probably have more. Which could be cool, I mean. Deldrimor is still around at this time and it's pre-Great Dwarf.
Plus, I've been wanting to see Orr in its former glory ever since Siren's Landing. That art teaser last week hyped me TF UP!! I'm looking forward to playing a Vaelwarden and riding around on that rolly sky otter thing! The key art looks absolutely beautiful, and I really can't put into words how happy I am that they kept Kekai Kotaki around because he's part of the Guild Wars franchise at this point.
I'm going to trust Anet to give Orr justice, I just have some reservations. I feel like a lot of you on here agree, which is equal parts reassuring and concerning. But woo, yeah. Lots of feelings about this.
Is this element on the GW3 tapestry the Heart of the Obscure? could just be a decoration but it looks really similar
Pairing this with the imagery of a wizards hatted character makes me think the Astral Ward are involved somehow with Orr's story in GW3
ALSO my immediate thought was that the thing in the centre looked like a man-made structure, but on second viewing could that be a sort of Pale Tree? The otherworldly roots seem to be growing from underneath it. Could we have early Sylvari after all?
GW3 concept art from the new press kit on ArenaNet's website.
Curious detail: one of the asura looks like the ones seen in GW2 (the blue-haired one in pic. 1), but the rest of 'em appear to have fluffy ears?
The asura featured in the reveal trailer also looks... fluffier than usual.
The way I see it, asura could have reasonably looked a lot different 1200+ years ago. Maybe living deep underground in near total darkness forced them to grow body fur like we see here in order to stay warm, but when Primordus began to stir they began to shed that fur because of the increased heat levels caused by volcanic/seismic/draconic activity?
Then they escaped to the surface and emerged into the swelteringly hot Maguuma jungle (even the more temperate regions to the east are probably far warmer than they were used to, or would have liked).
Maybe they're like cats or something. I'm starting to headcanon that they used to shed their fur in heat, but now, after so long on the surface in these jungle environs around Rata Sum, they've simply stopped growing it. Maybe there was a genetic engineering component to itāafter all, body hair is rather flammable isn't it? And they're doing all this magitech now too... ugh. I wouldn't want my hair getting pinched and ripped out by a golem.
Better to just be s m o o t h.
one of the many things I'm excited about re gw3 is the nature of it being a prequel and all the free extra depth that comes from that.
you're a vaelwarden, a protector of the people and spirits of orr. all the good your vaelwarden does, all the happy things that happen to them are going to be underpinned by these bittersweet, tragic feelings of "but in the end it was all for nothing". and maybe some people dont like that, but I think getting to see orr have it's fleeting time on tyria is like. awesome. maybe the vaelwarden will love orr and put their entire soul into caring for it all. and one day it'll all come crashing down and sink to the bottom of the ocean.
I could go on about how that the temporary nature of all that good ultimately not meaning much is very. life. that's life. and it still matters even if it all vanished. it matters because it vanished. but then its also what happens in gw2 that gives it so much meaning to me.
sure, everything your vaelwarden achieves is temporary, maybe nothing much in the grand scheme of things. but like 1300+ years into the future after everything you worked for was destroyed, someone who has never known you and your story will come along and be so dedicated to reviving the land that you loved and making it something new and cared for once again. some guy, part of a race you could have never conceived of, will rally the collective effort of the world for the sake of removing the rot and filth from this ruin that was so long forgotten. that legacy will encourage a whole new generation of adventurous spirits to flock to this place because they see hope and potential in what it could become with some care. they carry on your work in a new way.
the will of determined people echoing throughout the centuries. an unseen line between then and now.
Having a minor meltdown about the announcement of Guild war three. WHO KNEW THAT THIS WOULD BE AN ANXIETY TRIGGER FOR ME??? I assure as fuck didnāt think it would be! I have calmed down a bit but goddamn. Considering that arena net is pretty good as game companies go, and have proven in the past that they havenāt abandoned previous works with Guild wars one, Iām not freaking out as much as I think I would be otherwise, but⦠Iāve been playing Gw2 since 2012 and itās something Iāve always returned to as a comfort game, and this is hitting me kinda hard. Just needed to scream for a little bit because the reaction Iāve seen has been positive! And I feel like a weird weirdo for freaking out as badly as I am XD

I'm genuinely so happy to see these Skyscale models resurfacing.
I love to see these moth models as canon and- to the extent that we see so far anyways- it looks like they naturally fit in to the terrain they are put in.
I know folks can gripe and complain about reused assets; but, I'm of the opinion that when it's done right and that it looks like they've belonged there the whole time that it works. So glad to see these beautiful Skyscale models out in the world again. Can't wait to fly around and explore the beauty of this map fully on release.
Maybe someday I'll get to see the Deep Sea Jackal / Warclaw skins be used for an Underwater Expac.
Elder Dragon vlast concept. he is meant to look a bit like a dragon that exploded and died, and like the exalted caretakers that raised him. him and aurene would be gold and silver siblings
bit of a lazy (as in mostly using her usual clothes) faerie costume for lull to bouncing-projectile her way through the labyrinth this year. glasses glamoured over or running around blindly? you decide.
also another little fairground-vibes halloween fort for my haunted bell:
