@drafts-in-progress
sebastian places so much importance on being a butler. ciel forbade him from ācreatingā clothes with his powers, insisting he dress like a normal human ā and so sebastian casually carries spare gloves with him (likely from the circus incident, when he dirtied his pair).
r!ciel used to steal lemon-honey cough drops and eats them. wanna bet he did it to be more like his brother, who had to take them regularly because of his asthma?
what strikes me about this scene is how much yana wanted to emphasize that sully is childlike. on one hand we have chemical compounds, but next to them there are clearly childish drawings of a witch and a cat, or a stuffed toy. she may have been brilliant, but she was still a child.
is sebastian more brutal when he kills people who harmed ciel?
there are moments where unjustified violence repulses sebastian
the circus children
the bizarre dolls
but also ones where he remains completely unmoved
when patrick dies, sebastian is next to him and only cares about the snake he hears in the walls
he watches siemensā death like a theater performance
during the campania arc, he pays no attention to the hundreds dying around him.
when it comes to killing, iād divide it into two categories:
execution (quick, precise, emotionless) ā people who were not directly connected to ciel:
azzurroās assassins ā most of them got stabbed with a knife, two were thrown off a cliff
assassins sneaking into the manor at night ā cut with knife
circus children ā burned at cielās request
werewolves in the laboratory ā slitting throats, stabbing, he used gas only after they released it themselves
cruelty ā sebastian killing people who harmed ciel:
cultists ā rape, starvation, sacrifice as offerings. he literally teared them up
kelvin and doctor ā triggered ciel's trauma. head crashed, heart pierced
azzurro ā held a gun to his head, and ciel had clearly been beaten by him earlier. as āpaymentā before killing him, sebastian broke his arm and showed him, at least partially, his demon form
sieglindeās mother ā she brought ciel to the brink of death with the gas, so sebastian repaid her with the same poison forced directly into her lungs
soldiers in the tank ā torn apart by a grenade thrown into the confined machine. the tank would have killed ciel if diedrich hadnāt intervened. and so the tank became their grave
sebastian explains his aggression as fitting into the role imposed on him by ciel:Ā āhowever, if you are particular to my being such a devil, i shall act accordingly.āĀ yet the only times he truly behaves like a beast are motivated by prior harm done to ciel.
the tank is also one of the rare moments where we see sebastian joking about death. it fits the narrative of āthis isnāt who i am, but if my master desires it, it is a servantās duty to comply,ā but looking at the bigger picture and his behaviour during the whole hunt, i get the impression that his moments of heightened aggression arenāt driven by his aesthetic, but by something closer to a personal vendetta against those who have harmed ciel. the role imposed on him is merely an excuse, because as a demon he doesnāt allow himself to consider that he might feel the urge to take revenge on someone for harming a human.
i fucking love this whore so much. this smile. his eyes. the harness. he loves being under someone's command and the broken chain doesn't change a thing.
i love me some ciel praising sebastian
actually, sebastian told ciel to consider going easy on her, just to hear him say that he depends on him
i love that whenever sebastian thinks about ciel, he always has two images in mind: him in his vulnerable state and him when he stands his ground, because he knows that one of those sides is reserved specifically for him.
book of the atlantic is so funny because the premise is literally just "titanic but with zombies" and then it's peak it's absolutely peak fiction
i genuinely love how yana borrows from pop-culture and adapts it into her world. titanic, arthur conan doyle, hogwarts, idol performances ā on one hand itās familiar and almost clichĆ©, but on the other, a lot of other authors wouldnāt be able to pull it off without it feeling like a cheap imitation.
Health classes really ought to teach people what the beginning stages of addiction are like because a lot of people donāt realize theyāre addicted to something until theyāre years deep into it.
I love writing angst, but I fear I am not good at writing, well, good angst. Considering you are one of my favorite writers who writes excellent angst, would you mind giving some advice and tips and tricks or whatever as to how to write good angst? And maybe even how you became so good at writing it!
oh god, im glad you like my writing but it's by no means easy for me to write angst either.
you need to know that the first, second, and third draft are going to suck. angst is the one of the hardest genres to nail because you have to wrestle between the emotions, body language, and dialogue of your characters. plus you add ambience and heavy tension into the mix.
i start with the general idea: a fight, a confession, a scene that's going to precede a new arc. in this case, i tend to focus on the inner turmoil of just one character--the secondary one i only describe by their reactions and outsburts and how they impact my protagonist. i stick to a single pov.
second is, what's the point? the scene should end in a transformation from one emotional state to another. my character should leave the scene with another way of seeing things, either for good or bad. it needs to push the plot foward.
third: how does my mc think? do they have supressed anger? if so, they are going to snap. have they been surpressing sadness? they might break out crying in the middle of their argument or do something erratic.
Organize your draft in 4 parts:
you have your scene launch: which starts in the middle of something.
2. conflict arises: one of the characters says or does something. tension esclates.
3. climax: the fight, the confession. something is revealed here, new to either the characters or to the reader. the character can't go back to their previous state of mind after this comes to light.
4.denoument: a new question, action, or promise rises. the character know what to do (or not do) and prompts the next scene with another launch.
i advice you to focus on showing, not telling us how they feel.
do their voice cracks?
are their eyes blurry?
are they saying something mean because they are hurt?
are they thinking logically?
what do they do with their hands?
how do they react to the secondary characters emotions and behaviour? (this reveals a lot about their feelings--called in literary devices as emotion cues by secondary characters)
is the light dim or hard?
is it a closed space or public?
can you add a conflict that makes them show their true feelings?
here's a preview of one of the heaviest angst i've written for this fic. hope it can serve as reference for what i explained.
after you somehow come up with a draft similar to what you had in mind, you focus on the dialogue, body language, and inner monologue being coherent and smooth. from there, you only revise, and fix things here and there.
reach out to me via dm if you need me to give you some advice based on your draft. wishing you the best  ˶ᵠᵠįµĖ¶ don't forget that most authors write the same scene up to 7 times until it matches their vision.
rewatching kuroshitsuji book of circus makes me want to draw seb and cielā¦.Ā
and so, this is what i draw
Used to be able to have fun on the internet now all the websites are after my identity like the devil is after my soul
