Wild Arms 2 (PS1)

Wild Arms 2 is one of those PS1 RPGs that doesn’t always get talked about as much as the big names, but it absolutely deserves more attention.

It takes the foundation of classic turn-based JRPG combat and wraps it in this unusual blend of modern military fiction, sci-fi, and Western-inspired fantasy. On paper it sounds a bit all over the place, but in practice it works. The world feels like it’s constantly balancing between something familiar and something slightly off, which gives the whole game a unique tone.

What stands out most is how it builds its identity over time. The dungeon puzzles, the soundtrack, and the pacing all encourage you to slow down and actually engage with the world instead of rushing through it. It has that late-PS1 era charm where ambition sometimes outpaces polish, but that’s also part of what makes it memorable.

By the end, it feels less like a typical JRPG and more like a journey that quietly grew into something bigger than you expected.

Wild Arms 2 is a great classic that comes highly recommended!

today i begin a self imposed challenge to draw a scrimblo every day for the month of may. it's scrimblo-a-day may. for the 1st it's klonoa! it was hard to pick between his two designs. i do love the big collar on the og design but the fit on the sequel design won out in the end.
