I had some more ideas for the storyline I was building in the WTTT Week videos, but I donât think Iâll have time in the foreseeable future to make more finished videos about it, so I decided to just make an overarching explanation for what the AU is about.
Also, moodboard for swap!Florida. It may give some lore insights :)
The swapped pairs for anyone who isnât familiar:
New York & Louisiana
California & Texas
Florida & Gov
âą The swap AU states are manifestations of what they each wish they could be. Each of them sees qualities in another person that they want to have themselves; this other person is who theyâre swapped with. For example, California wishes he could be tougher like Texas, so swap!California is modelled after Texas.
âą The AU exists as a parallel universe connected to the real world, but it is less powerful. This is because none of the swapped states have souls of their own; theyâre just vessels. Theyâre just what ifs in human form. They canât physically cross over into the real world, they can only contact it through mirrors and dreams.
âą Not having souls of their own makes them feel perpetually incomplete on the inside, which is one of the main reasons why they try to lure the states to their world.
âą If one of the states agrees to give their soul to their counterpart, they will wake up in the other world, as the swapped version of themself. In other words, theyâll become the person they wanted to be. If you know the story of Coraline, the concept here is something like that.
âą Back in the real world, it will appear as if they have gone missing, but no one will be able to find them.
WTTT Week storyline:
âą The videos are about swap!Florida implicitly trying to convince regular Florida to give up his soul, by making him doubt whether heâs truly happy with the life he has now.
âą swap!Florida is more knowledgeable about how the universes work than the other swapped states. Heâs based on Gov, so heâs their leader in some respects(not politically; history doesnât change in the AU, only the charactersâ personalities do, but he is a leader in a more abstract way).
âą Thereâs a possibility that video #6 may take place before video #5 chronologically.
âą The rows of seats in video #6 are meant to be Annie Pfeiffer Chapel. Itâs part of a collection of buildings called Child of the Sun. The quote in the video (âgrow out of the ground and into the light, a child of the sunâ) is referencing this as well. The prompt for that day was âlandmark,â and these buildings are indeed designated landmarks of Florida.
âą As for the binary numbers.. youâre still on your own for solving that. :3

Speaking of Tampa, it also just so happens that Tom Grossiâs 30 in 30 event for Tampa is scheduled for today. How fitting that heâs coming to the lightning capital on Lightning McQueenâs anniversary. these coincidences might not be coincidences anymore

âAre you sure youâre not cold?â
âIt ainât that bad, yâknow. Itâs gonna take more than a bit of snow to scare me.â
âHow do you even know about the concept of snow? Youâre a southerner.â
âShut up.â
There was so little venom behind that retort that even a newborn snake would be disappointed. It was obvious that Texas was enjoying his stay just as much as he was trying to cover it up. Miraculously, he had mostly kept his complaints about the very not-summery weather and the lack of steak houses to himself; Alaska didnât even know that Texans were capable of being quiet about anything. It couldnât have been an easy feat for him, that was for sure.
Summer at the top of the world wasâŠinteresting, to say the least. It was cold, of course; not severely cold, but it would be unwise to go outside with no jacket. More importantly, the sun didnât set at all for months on end. Case in point, it was eleven at night and still bright as day. While he hadnât directly called it out, Alaska had caught a clear glimpse of wonder in Texasâs eyes at the sight of the midnight sun. Like a puppy discovering its first tennis ball. It was adorable, and also definitely on the list of things Texas would never admit to even at gunpoint.
It brought a smile to Alaskaâs faceâa real one this time, not just the usual sardonic smirk he wore when he made fun of the Lower 48. Every time he saw such spectacles in his own towns, they were underscored by a feeling of disillusionment. It would be inaccurate to describe them as empty or meaningless; itâs just that they never hit the same as for a first-time witness. At times, heâd feel guilty for being unable to appreciate natureâs miracles as much as he believed he should. Here he was, getting a front-row seat to phenomena that most of the worldâs population would only ever see in photos, and it was justâŠbusiness as usual to him.
But maybe that was the point of all this. If he couldnât be stunned by endless daylight or divine auroras or the many other oddities to be found here, the next best option was to share it with someone who could. If he couldnât remember the times when he used to think the sky was magical, maybe seeing that look on another personâs face would help him rediscover that part of himself.
When he turned to face Texas, though, his expression was not one of awe, but instead irritation.
âWhereâs the damn arm holes in this thing?â He was attempting to put on the Seawolves hoodie that Alaska had given him(an offer heâd refused for the first five minutes before caving in). It was rather loose on himâa feeling quite unfamiliar to the second-largest state. Eventually, he figured it out, but not before shooting a death glare at the very smug Alaskan man who clearly enjoyed watching him suffer.
âAww, is it too big for your little arms?â
âIf you donât shut your trapââ
âHey, you agreed to visit the one state who has the right to call you short. You shouldâve seen this coming.â
âLook, it was either this or go along with Californiaâs weird vacation plans.â
âCalifornia has all those beaches, though. It canât be that bad.â
Toppat Clan really needs to get their mirrors checked out.
I like the idea of Terrence being a vengeful spirit that lingers around the clan. I realized several years too late that the hat Reginald gives Henry in Rapidly Promoted Executive is technically Terrenceâs hatâŠ

(i wouldnât really consider this an AU because itâs contained entirely within the possibilities of the canon game. itâs just a âwhat ifâ scenario stemming from one of the endings of Completing the MissionâŠand probably not the one youâre thinking of.)

What is WTTT Week? #WTTT Week is a week to celebrate the U.S. State-and-politics themed video series of YouTuber and comedian Ben Brainard, including Table News, Welcome to the Statehouse, Florida Man in SoCal, etc., as well as the small but dedicated fandom these works have inspired!
Are there any rules? Be creative and have fun! Weâre just trying to keep this fandom alive however we can. You can create ANY kind of fan work, including fic, art, edits, headcanons, moodboards, memes, etc etc. Donât feel pressured or obligated to follow the prompts exactly; consider them more of a rough guide. Theyâre open-ended for a reason!
