The Dragonborn, trying to catch bees out of the air to eat them: lmao what
ask-warlic:
Warlic paused midsentence, closed the book in one hand and lowered himself to the floor to pat Galanothâs shoulder. Of course this meant he was patting the pauldron, eliciting a few dull thunks and not much else more. It likely wasnât even having the desired effect of calming Galanoth if he stopped to think about it so he stopped patting and just waited a moment.
âNever mind what I was saying, it wasnât important right now anyway.â He soothed. âWhat you just drank gives you the power to communicate telepathically. For a short time anyway. 18 hours. I figured itâd be better to start off there and just reuse when we need to. I know it tastes likeâŚ. Ugh, thatâŚ. but itâs better than broadcasting your every thought right?â
Galanoth was now loudly thinking some very unpleasant things regarding Warlic and a series of increasingly obtuse gardening equipment.
He hoisted his way up to his feet, glaring at Warlic as he did so. Then the aftertaste hit and Galanoth found himself once again doubled over.
âVoid and fuckinâ Khazriâs eyes,â the dragonslayer swore, âtell me I can at least get something to wash this down with before nightfall.â
Avatars, it was like the smell of rotting meat mixed with gravel and tar.... This had better be worth it later when the actual curse-breaking started.
ask-warlic:
Warlic returned after a few minutes with a shot glass of something chartreuse and fizzing; it gave off a strong smell of wintermint. âHere drink this. Toss it back quickly though. I added some mint to try and tone it down but it definitely still tastes like burning garbage.â
He floated over to one of the journals in the mean time and started skimming through it.
âLike I said before though, weâll be in real trouble if we have another event like that âsons of Akrilothâ mishap,â he tilted his head. âHang on, what about junior? Do they even have a name? The oneâŚ..â
He trailed off for a moment deep hurt in his eyes, he took a deep breath then continued. âThe one lady Celestia was raising before all that happened. What happened to them?â
âHow long does it it take for one of them to grow up?â Warlic mused. âHow long do we have before itâs a problem. Wait is Xan raising them? Do you think Xan has them? I should ask him but I donât think heâd be receptive ahââ
Warlic stopped his rambling to reread a passage of the journals, âWait, oh, I have to see this in action!â
The dragonslayer accepted the potion without even looking at it first, still engrossed in his maps. If he was being honest, he hardly even heard Warlicâs advice, downing the fizzling mixture like a shot anyways and instantly being filled with regret as the taste of burnt hair, sewage, and mint all hit him at once.
It took everything in him not to immediately throw the mixture back up. His papers went flying. The awful taste of it was actually bad enough to send him to the ground gagging on his hands and knees.
Warlic, once again, was talking absolute nonsense while Galanoth desperately tugged on the hem of his robes, trying to get the mageâs attention.
âWarlic,â he rasped out, trying to ignore the feeling of his insides churning, âWhat in Lorithiaâs name are you talking about, and WHAT in the god damn HELL did you just feed me??????â

She winces a little.
Brought that ane ontae yer ainsel, Ro
âIâm really sorry,â she says, shoulders hunching with guilt âI just- I was an utter daftie and let myself get distracted and lost track of time. Thatâs no excuse though and I really, really am sorry,â
Her stomach evidentally decides that thatâs the perfect moment to grumble and confirm his thoughts regarding whether or not sheâs eaten.
âThanks for ordering food,â she says, putting one hand over the other underneath the table to stop it from self-consciously twitching up to the mask on her face âThat was nice of you,â
âForget it,â Galanoth said dismissively, âjust donât let it happen again.â Seriously, donât, he is a very busy man with very little time to waste.
As for the foodâŚ
âAdmittedly the food wasnât just a courtesy. Thereâs not a lot of time left before sunset, and Iâd rather eat now and be full later than wait for however long it wouldâve taken you to order and be starving when night falls.â
He paused for a moment.
âWait, how much did I tell you about the situation already? I did mention the curse is from sunset to sunrise, right?â
By the Avatars, if heâd forgotten thatâŚ.
Fun thing about Galanoth, remember how Akilroth destroyed his hometown and killed everyone in it? Â He was still a kid when that happened. Â Now you must be thinking, well, he was probably like ten or twelve or something, that sounds like a decent age.
Nope.
According to an article in the Zardian, which Tony Deller AKA Galanoth himself wrote, Akilroth burned down everything he knew and loved when he was four.
It was too big to be called a sword
ask-warlic:
Warlic stared at him in shock, seemingly a bit dazed from being shook up. Still that brought him back to the present moment.
âActually there probably is a potion you should drink now, I was thinking about it before, well no I wasnât, but it came up.â He made a vague hand gesture. âit might come in handy. How much time do we have left?â
He glanced at a window and was happy to find that heâd only wasted a few minutes not hours.
âAlright I should have time to make it, it might make things easier tonight, ahâ he squirmed out of Galanothâs grip. âIâll be back in a little. Please help yourself to any of my maps or books if you need to.â
He watched the smaller man slip away into some other room, eventually lowering his hands and heading back to his saddlebags to collect his maps. The dragonslayer didnât have much experience in making potions, but he did have experience in making himself busy. The last thing he wanted was to sit down expecting a short wait only to find whatever Warlic had in store took hours to brew.
He pulled out a trio of maps depicting different stretches of the same mountain range, each of them covered in circles of various colors. Sightings of dragons, sightings of red dragons, sightings of Akriloth. Galanoth could vaguely recall hearing something about the dragonâs mating season coming up soon, and wondered if perhaps the breeding grounds were located somewhere within that mountain range.
It would be took risky to make a trip there and see for himself while this curse was still active... But once it had been broken, that would certainly be something worth looking into.
He buried himself in his maps, pulling out a few sheets of loose paper to jot down notes as he worked.
ask-warlic:
âYes, so Iâm having you summon them,â He teased. He sat back again. âWell if you have other things to do, Iâd advise getting to work on that, I donât have a lot to do on my end, other than just read the journals when you bring me them.â
He paused. âAh, isnât it close to fire dragon mating season? You might wanna hurry on that, Iâm sure the world needs more baby Akrilothâs running about.âÂ
âOnce night falls though, you are mine to examine. I will get to the bottom of this and break the curse upon you, I swear upon my life,â He grinned. âYou may want to coordinate with the Dragonlords on that matter, theyâre likely not happy with him.âÂ
He continued rattling off useless information, a few theories and even threatened to go fight Xan to draw out Akriloth through their partnership.
This of course led to ruminating on Xan and thought and theories about practical magic and as always and as ever led to, Jaania, Jaania, Jaaniaâever Jaania. From there it spiralled out of control, the past, the distand past, the future. If Galanoth came back he would find that Warlic was having an argument with himself at full volume about what the proper use of a Mana sieve really was or comparatively lamenting over the loss of certain flavors of coffee. Or maybe at that point where he was retelling (himself) a joke from the old world and laughing breathlessly between every other word.
This would be abnormal for probably anyone who didnât know Warlic but for those that knew him this probably came off as one of his usual drunken hangups.
âWell, thatâs one good thing at least. The food tastes better in this world,â he sighed. âWait, what was I doing? Ahhh, wait, Galanoth! I was helping him! I think, ahhh,â he snapped out of it, standing and looking around for any trace of his friend.
Galanoth walked over the the mage without a word and grabbed him by the shoulders, shaking the much smaller man back and forth until he was satisfied that all the nonsense had come out of him.
âHey,â the dragonslayer said, âI asked you a question like five minutes ago. If you werenât babbling on about stupid shit maybe you wouldâve heard me.â
Whatever Warlic had been talking about while heâd gone to fetch his journals, Galanoth had no earthly idea, but he wasnât really in the mood to deal with it. He was a man of limited patience, and those limits did not include sitting around waiting for Warlic to come back down to earth so they could continue their conversation.
Though now that the dragonslayer thought about it, he was starting to remember why his main correspondence with this particular friend was through letters...
âIs there anything you need done before night falls? Rituals, incantations, potions, I donât know, anything that requires me to talk? Because once the sun goes down, if you need me to do something for you, youâre shit out of luck.â
phoenix-of-falconreach:
âWhereâs thâ person who goes on the horse?â Phoenix snapped, forgetting to translate her words into draconic as she continued advancing on the dragon, circling awkwardly around the mare as she did so. She was starting to shake from the cold and damp, and her grip on her sword was clumsy.
She was in bad shape to be fighting a dragon, even a wounded weird-looking one.
The warrior snapped the fingers on her free hand, summoning up a small fireball in an attempt to drive away the numbing chill. She faltered for a moment as she looked up at the dragon in the sudden orange light-
Its head was all wrong, and the eyes werenât proper dragon eyes at all- every dragon sheâd seen had uniform slightly glow-y eyes with no visible whites or pupils, and these eyes were wrong and they didnât glow in the light nearly as much as they should.
No wonder it didnât respond to draconic- what the fuck was it?
âStop your growlinâ,â Phoenix muttered under her breath, trying to get a better look at it. She made a quick feint towards the thing, to see if she could make it move.
At no other point in his life had Galanoth ever wished harder that he could speak while trapped in this form than he did while he was staring down this adventurer as they barked yet another question he couldnât answer at him.
Wait.
Couldnât he?
The dragonslayer had been trying, constantly, repeatedly, to reteach himself how to speak with this cursed dragonâs maw. He hadnât been faring well, but, if it was possibleâif he could get even a single word out that sounded at least halfway correctâ!
An additional light source had sprung up in the cave while he was ponderingâhe didnât have the time to wonder where it came from. The warrior moved suddenly, coming at him with their sword again. Galanoth jumped out of the way quickly without a second thought to what they might be planningâhe had some planning of his own to do now.

phoenix-of-falconreach:
Phoenix drew her sword and advanced as the dragon glanced at her and then made a grab for the spooked horse. The dragon was moving a bit clumsily, and she wondered whether it was injured somehow.Â
The dimness of the firelight was making it tricky to get a good look, but the wings were held awkwardly back, and there was something odd about the head. She didnât have much experience with wild dragons, but she reckoned that it would probably be harder to fight if there were something wrong with it- desperate and snappish, like any other hurt animal.
The warrior set her jaw and stabbed at the claw reaching out towards the horse.
Though he pulled back the moment he caught the sword moving towards him, Galanoth felt a sharp sting of pain as the warriorâs blade managed to catch two of his fingers (talons?) right along the joints. Something in him hissed reflexively, a pained sound heâd heard too many times while hunting to ever imagine himself making. Small licks of fire threatened to come out, but the dragonslayer-turned-dragon snapped his jaws shut tightly before they could find the chance.
He let go of Eelonwie (mentally apologizing to the horse and promising to give her a lot of brushes and treats the following morning to make up for things) and quickly slunk to the back of the cave a few scant yards away to put as much room between himself and the warrior as possible. Galanoth had made a few advancements in learning how to defend himself in this form, but he didnât fully trust his ability to keep from seriously hurting this adventurer if he had to retaliate.
Much as he hated to admit it, a low warning growl unconsciously escaping his throat as he stared down the warrior, if he wanted things to end peacefully, he was completely at this strangerâs mercy.
flamestoillusions:
âOh, thank you,â Tannim said as he admired the wingâs structure for a moment. He could barely stifle a yawn. He intended to just check out the rumors that had been going around. Staying out was the last thing he wanted to do. Especially since he rose and fell with the sun.Â
As the brunet settled, content with a break from the wind, Rune remained, âNot a chance. I will return to the inn.â
Tannim rubbed an eye as he remarked, âDonât take it personal, Rune canât stay warm for anythinâ out âere.â
ââŚâ
The dragonslayer-turned-dragon shrugged in another pointedly exaggerated motion, not really blaming Rune for his reluctance to sleep under the stars. Dragonhide might be more comfortable than the ground, but it probably wasnât more comfortable than an actual bed. He bid the ranger farewell with a clawed hand, leaving just the paladin to keep him company.
Galanoth shuffled about quietly as he adjusted his position on the ground, eventually ending up splayed open on his side like some big cat, his head resting on his arms and his belly exposed to the world. He left the one wing held lazily open so Tannim could have room to get himself situated before laying it over top the man like a blanket.
Casting a final look at Eelonwie, who still looked annoyed at him but not as much as she had earlier, he settled down to sleep for the night.
âDo not talk to me of dragon fire. I know its wrath and ruin.â
-Thranduil
Imagine Galanoth attacking an Imagine Dragons concert.
phoenix-of-falconreach:
Phoenix stumbled to a stop as she came face to face with a terribly large dragon. The warrior brushed the icy rainwater out of her eyes and rested a hand on the hilt of her sword, taking another glance at the sleet still thundering outside.
There was a fire in the cave, and a nervous-looking horse in full tack and saddlebags. The dragon itself looked to be a sort of blue-greyish color, although the dimness and the constantly moving firelight made it hard to get a good look.
âWhatâre you doing with that horse?â she blurted out in dragontongue, fumbling for her amulet with her free hand.
Despite reaching for a weapon, the adventurerâs first thought was apparently to communicate, something that Galanoth wouldâve been infinitely more appreciative of if it werenât for the fact that theyâd sounded like they were speaking draconic, which he couldnât. In retrospect he couldnât really blame them, since not all dragons know common but even baby dragons have an instinctual grasp of their native tongue. If he were an actual dragon instead of a man bound to dragonshape, it probably wouldâve worked.
Regardless, the adventurerâs shouting did nothing to calm down Eelonwie, the roan beast frantically trampling and swishing and braying and picking the absolute worst time to act like a regular horse for once in her damn life. On reflex, Galanoth tried to shush her and stroke her mane like he usually did, forgetting completely that he was currently a two-ton reptilian death machine.
It didnât look good.
ask-warlic:
âThat would be most helpful,â Warlic smiled. âOnce Iâve got enough information I should be able to start working on a curse breaker. Worst comes to worst you could just become the first dragonslaying dragon.â
He smiled cheekily and moved to recline in the air, summoning a few books to float around him as he searched for sometjing. Once he either found what he was looking for or didnât he snapped the books shut and returned them to their respective piles.
âyou arenât the first this has happened to, but itâs quite complicated each time. Do you mind too terribly to get those journals for me?â
âWouldnât it make more sense to just summon them?â Galanoth said, fully aware that the archmage couldnât summon anything he wasnât already familiar with.
Not that he was exactly hurting for timeâsunset was quite a few hours away, so without any reason not to go the dragonslayer did as he was bidden to do and retrieved his saddlebags, setting them down on the nearest uncluttered surface while the archmage just kept on reading his tomes.
âSo, anything else planned from here til tonight?â the dragonslayer asked, âBecause if not Iâve got some maps to review. Thereâs been sightings of Akriloth popping up recently and I want to see if thereâs any pattern to them.â
