Action to protect the creators
So, I read and reblogged claudiojudkevitch’s “Protect the Creators,” which ponders what would happen if “ we stop posting anything until Tumblr decides to protect the creator´s rights by making it impossible to erase the credits.” The idea is brilliant. I like it.
However, Sunday, inspired by that post, I woke up with this idea:
We should all post, on the same day, a sign that reads “Protect the Creators.” It should have the Tumblr blue background with bold white font. Just a square, using the Tumblr’s own, well know design to blend in yet also be subversive. Make it look like something Tumblr staff itself is promoting.
Then I thought, “Wait. What if we change our avatars, right now, to that same “Protect the Creators” photo, and then in the same day we all post that image, instead of our usual content. Why not?”
JUNE 1, 2015.
Let’s do it Monday, June 1, 2015. No content except the “Protect the Creators” photo.
Then I thought, “Why not make them in different languages, and perhaps each one of us can choose to change our avatar to a different language every day until Monday, June 1, 2015. That would be kinda cool, right?
If you click on this link, it will take you to a Google Drive folder that has all the signs I created. Click on the one you want to download. It will open up in a new window that has a download arrow icon at the top. Download as many as you want. ((I actually wanted to write “Collect them all!”) Sorry if the translations re not accurate, but I used Google Translate. Also, sorry if I missed your language. I just picked what fellow Tumblrs I know speak and then some others.
What do you think?
Tumblr, we’ve gone big before. I haven’t heard about this AT ALL except through my bf’s tumblr.
I know that some of these, a lot of you out there won’t remember, but here on my end, we (Tumblr) went big in 2013 with Operation Zubat Storm. Every year we have Speak Your Language Day in May. I know there are more. You know there are more. This is a small change that will make a huge difference. It won’t hurt anybody more than it’ll help.
Okay, anyways, this won’t be seen by a lot of people coming off of my blog (unless literally everyone that sees the post at all reblogs it, but even then…), so.. You guys know the drill. We do things. So let’s do this thing.
Pro tip: if you‘re not on mobile, change this to a text post in the upper right hand corner so the message isn’t hidden on your blog. If you’re like “nah” or you’re on mobile, reblog it anyways.
As a part of the tumblr community, it doesn’t matter that this was supposed to be a business-only tumblr.
