March 5 Generalized logistic function curve-fitting to Coronavirus cases in China and the rest of the world
Part of an art lesson I did
Just PM me if you want one!
Joi Ito, who runs the MIT Media Lab, said a wonderful thing in a recent conversation with President Obama: "This may upset some of my students at MIT, but one of my concerns is that it's been a predominantly male gang of kids, mostly white, who are building the core computer science around AI, and they're more comfortable talking to computers than to human beings. A lot of them feel that if they could just make that science-fiction, generalized AI, we wouldn't have to worry about all the messy stuff like politics and society. They think machines will just figure it all out for us." Having realized that the world is not a programming problem, AI obsessives want to make it into a programming problem, by designing a God-like machine. This is megalomaniacal. I don't like it.

Call it by it's name: Anxiety
Please don’t tell me I’m stressed. Stress doesn’t feel like death. Stress doesn’t sit on your chest. Stress doesn’t move through your body. Head to lungs Lungs to arms Arms to stomach Stress doesn’t make me stop breathing Stress doesn’t stop my heart from breathing. Stress doesn’t live in my skin Stress doesn’t visit everyday Please don’t tell me I’m stressed. Stress doesn’t feel like fear Stress doesn’t feel like the other foot is about to drop Stress doesn’t feel like sweaty palms, shaking hands and weak knees. Stress doesn’t grip my chest like a vise. Stress doesn’t squeeze until my vision blurs Stress can’t make this room spin. Stress can’t make me fall to the floor. Can’t you see? This isn’t stress. So don’t call it that. Stress is minor. Stress comes and goes. This does not. Don’t call it stress. Call it by its name. Anxiety.
