the idea of parenting is so crazy what do you mean there's one person in the world that should shape a developing human's life and if any other outside sources or different perspectives creep in this is the greatest betrayal and corruption possible and actually we should give even more rights to parents and block any sources of infection (perspective of a human being growing beyond familial unit) off

What’s With the “Death” part of Death Bed: An Impenetrably Medieval Dungeon Game?

The PCs are dead. Un-dead, in a very Dark Souls way. When the project was initially conceived, it was a lot more specifically Dark Souls inspired and a lot more “OSR”, both of which have changed over the course of development, but a lot of the Dark Souls has still stuck around, like the fact that the PCs are undead and “respawn” at bonfires when they die. They’re immortal, but far from invincible. Dying repeatedly takes a toll on their mind, body, and spirit, and they will need to make progress towards their goals to reverse this gradual decay.

Other things that stuck around from the initial Dark Souls idea are a stamina-management-based action-economy. With a few exceptions, during turn-based action, a PC can do a hypothetically unlimited number of things, but most actions cause Fatigue. Fatigue builds up in the character’s HP track, temporarily shortening it, meaning the more Fatigue they have, the more vulnerable they are. A PC could hypothetically attack a half-dozen times in a single turn, but doing so might leave them exhausted and unable to dodge, block, or parry the response.

There are also Maidens (often barefoot) who these undead PCs are reliant on for this game’s equivalent of “leveling up.” EXP is spent on stat upgrades, and accumulated EXP is dropped upon death for anyone to “pick up.”

Also a PC can be a Maiden for the party.

Profanity filters on single-player games are just so... incredibly performative. They don't 'protect' the player from seeing the word (you have to type it in order to activate the filter), the only thing they do is scold the player.

My favorite solution to people who get offended at the things they themselves typed is a disclaimer on a puzzle page that said "If you type profanity you will see it."

It's really funny and jarring when you encounter a profanity filter in a single-player m-rated grown-up game for adults, but I don't think they even make sense in kid's games. If anything I think "If you tell the computer to call you FuckNugget it will do that" is exactly the sort of obvious, low-stakes 'actions have consequences' lesson that's perfect for kids.
