Another in a long line of random thoughts.

Sauron from Lord of the Rings compared to the Wizard of Oz (the original, not the one from Wicked).

Both are looming background presences who work through mediums (either a giant head or a big eye) intended to inspire fear, but actually don't do all that. Worth noting that I'm not factoring in the Silmarillion in this because a) I haven't read it and b) neither have you.

Could probably get some mileage out of this as a video essay. Obviously this is mostly a joke, but I do feel like there's something there.
