Tequila training at Kingsman (i don't remember this part of the movie...)
Imagine that Eggsy organizes a joint day off for Harry and Merlin and buys movie tickets.
Somewhere at the beginning of the third act, Harry realizes that he hears someone sobbing. He turns around and sees Eggsy clutching an empty popcorn bucket and crying because of the sad plot twist. And, of course, Harry is a little worried, he knows that Eggsy is an extremely emotional person.
But then he hears the same sobbing from the other side. He turns around and sees that Merlin is trying in vain to hold back tears.
And Harry will carefully ask them if they would like some more popcorn. Merlin will refuse, because popcorn is very high in calories. And Eggsy will ask him to buy it with caramel flavor. Harry will buy popcorn for Eggsy and secretly bring a package of chicken wings for Merlin at the cinema.
i think harry hart shouldve stayed dead. bringing him back in tgc really diminished the emotional impact of his death in the first place and set a bad precedent for death expectation on everyone else⊠if it was between harry coming back and roxy+merlin surviving, i wouldve chosen to keep roxy and merlin alive. sometimes we have to focus on the now and the people we love presently. we cant always beg for the past nostalgia to come back and help us
â
something something they were wrong to revive harry. as much as the audience loved him, his relevance to eggsy in tgc felt kinda a crutch to eggsy's plot progression. not to be confused, i love my lepidopterist but I felt real bad for eggsy handling harry's confused state. Golden Circle was bad enough for me that every time Tequila shows up I rejoice, that's my cowboy. Eggsy was just there doing his thing, struggling as usual but now he's screaming at his amnesiac mentor.
I miss Rox, I miss Merlin, I miss JB, honestly I miss the rest of the Kingsman agents
Iâve ranted about this before on Twitter, but to summarize; the reason why TGC feels so aimless as a movie in the franchise is because it completely lost whatever anti-elitist tone + Eggsy character development drive that the first one had.
The whole point of TSS was that Eggsy was being manipulated, abused, or taken advantage of by the rich and powerful of society as a means to an end for the entire film. Valentine and Arthur are two versions of this; Valentine being the rich who donât know you or care for you, whereas Arthur represents the rich who know your anger as a lower class citizen and seek to exploit it while calling themselves an ally.
Harryâand Merlin, to an extentâare the few authority figures in Eggsyâs life that do not outright take advantage of his socioeconomic standing, and actually scold him for thinking it matters (which is technically also a privileged take to an extent, as socioeconomic status does dictate a LOT of our daily lives, but I donât think Vaughn thought that deeply about it). They encourage Eggsyâs growth and are core figures that aide in his development as both person and agent.
Anyways, this brings me to my point: TSS was about Eggsyâs struggle against the system; against elitism; against being the underdog, of being perfectly capable (if not more) than his peers with better resources and still being looked down upon. This is something that Eggsy clearly is shown to struggle with and thus fights viciously to prove himself through the entire film up until the end; his worth is deeply personal to him, and he wonât go down without a fight especially when he has a good support system believing in him (Harry, Roxy, Merlin, etc).
You see my point: TSS is deeply personal to Eggsyâs struggles; in fact, we revolve around his crawl to the top against all odds. At the beginning, he is largely self deprecating, believing himself to be incompetent or incapable despite all evidence saying otherwise. We grow with him, and by the end, he shows that he has become a braver person who doubts very little about himself.
Then⊠TGC happens.
Right. Drugs. Itâs a good topic that we know Eggsy has had history with, as evidenced by his conversation with Harry in TSS and Poppy in TGC. Thereâs the personal connection to the main antagonistic element we need for a good movie.
âŠUnfortunately, this never actually blooms into its own conflict.
If Vaughn knew what he was doing, this could have been an incredible film about not being ashamed of a past of addiction or drug abuse; he could have showed how drugs are used to oppress the disadvantaged lower class, and how Poppy represents that upper class greed that comes at the crippling cost of life. And while TGC does show a bit of that, it is never truly personal to Eggsy; it isnât something heâs shown to struggle with, and thus we, the audience, end up feeling gravely disconnected from the main antagonistic element of the film.
TGC could have been about trying to take pride in finding your footing for yourself. It could have been about recruiting more of his friends for Kingsman, likely struggling in the same background as him, or sourcing help from his own folk (think the Bowery Mob in John Wick; these things have been done before to incredible success!); after all, isnât that the point? Eggsy is the man with a foot in both worlds; heâs supposed to be the bridge, the socializer, the posh gentleman and the average citizen.
But we donât get that.
The Eggsy we meet at the beginning of TGC is the same as the Eggsy we get at the end; and as Iâm sure we all know, as action-packed as Kingsman is, it is still a very heavily character-driven film. We learn about the world through Eggsyâs eyes, and we root for him; hell, thatâs the whole point of TSSâs Act III. But TGC ends up trying to please all sides; Vaughn doesnât have the balls to try a drug addict recovery story, even in the lighthearted but crass Kingsman flavor of comedy, so instead we got a halfbaked story where Eggsy kind of kicks ass and Harry comes back as a fanservice plot. And Merlin dies. For some reason.
But yeah; if you were ever wondering why TGC feels so lackluster and unmoving compared to its predecessor, this is why; itâs because Vaughn was too afraid to let Eggsy grow as a person.
(And no, getting married doesnât count. That isnât a deeper insecurity or backstory element we have been teased before.)

Finally had the guts to publish my OC short story somewhere, so here's the cover art! If you like emotionally constipated hitmen, morally grey manipulative twinks, and psychological mind games in your short and not-at-all-sweet gay romance, this is probably the story for you.
Heavily inspired by works such as Veil by Kotteri.

I think at the end of the day we as a fandom seriously need to discuss how in the TGC novel, Merlin was meta-forced into a relationship with Ginger but still was the one who:
Cried onscreen for the first and only time when Harry died; he didnât even cry when HE HIMSELF was about to die. (Some fascinating implications about that.)
Canonically tried tirelessly to make Harry remember him, going through several trials that didnât make it into the movie but were doomed to fail anyway because he would always stop too early/couldnât tolerate seeing Harry in pain or distress
Stole a Statesman plane for Harry with absolutely zero context as to why a (as far as he was aware) TRAITOR asked him to (which, if you havenât read the novel yet, Harry canonically went completely dark and rogue from Statesman & Kingsman after Whiskey died. He went to Singapore and beat the shit out of a druglord. Statesman had no idea what he was doing or where he was; Merlin had NO REASON to trust Harry.)
Going off of point 1, sacrificed his life for Eggsy and Harry without hesitation. I understand itâs a whole âdutyâ thing, but Merlin is so SO important to the Kingsman on his own and he KNOWS this as evidenced by his conversations with Ginger. Thereâs always other agents, but thereâs only one Merlin. Iâm incredibly glad Eggsy and Harry survived, but why in godâs name would he do that (or implicatively value himself as lesser)?
I dunno. Maybe Iâm delusional about Merlahad. Maybe I just find these things too painfully funny. Maybe I just wish Merlin got a better situation than what he ended up with.
That is, of course, not even counting the weirdass pervy aspects the novel added to Merlin for no reason that were just downright out of character. But you get the point. I donât like the novel much. Or TGC for that matter.
Just to make sure for future reference but are we allowed to report people using Generative A.I? Like using AI Artwork for attacks, revenges, etc and people making A.I OC's? And also state in our permissions that we don't want people using A.I? Because I had to deal with people making AI Generated OC's onto Toyhouse so I really hope people don't get the idea that it's okay to make things like that on Artfight
Yes, please report it! Generative AI is not at all welcome on any of our platforms.
no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.
fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.
my masterpiece
You know, actually during Eggsy and Tilde's fight, both of them are understandable.
I respect Eggsy's desire to be honest with his lover. And I also like how tense he is when he realizes that he actually has to cheat on her.
I also understand the pressure Tilde puts on Eggsy when she talks about the proposal. That's not good, and it would be better if she started talking about it at a different time than when he's emotionally distressed.
But for all that...I understand Tilde's feelings. Because Eggsy's answer sounds something like: I love you, but I won't marry you. I mean, he's letting her know that their relationship won't be legalized because it would interfere with his work. And also doesn't really burn to be a public figure.
And that might not be a problem if Tilde wasn't a princess. Anyway, she can't settle for cohabitation. She'll probably need to get married.
I'm thinking about this because there are quite a few people who accuse Tilde of dirty manipulation and being unworthy of Eggsy. While most of the time their relationship is quite sweet, and Tilde's concern is emphasized many times. She offers to teach him table etiquette, she's willing to defend him to her father, she gives him a puppy.
And yes, like I said, Tilde is wrong during their fight, and her later actions seem a bit hysterical to me. But Eggsy is also hurting her, and, well, he's a bit hysterical too.
And besides, after saving the world, they've probably had plenty of opportunities to discuss their differences, apologize to each other, and come to a compromise. My point is that Tilde hardly forced Eggsy to marry her.
