Please, Leave A Message (Loki x Reader)
Per popular request, this is part 2 to this story
It's been a while since the prince of Elbaf felt the fluttering, sickening feeling that was being in love. Did he love it or hate it? He was still not sure, but he did know this; he had to be free.
“I am afraid any puny carrier pigeon you send here wouldn’t be able to survive where I am holed up. It is quite chilly here.” Loki spoke to his furry transponder snail, his only real link to the outside word, and to you.
He had affectionately decided to call you “sæta”, a word he was glad you were in the dark about. It has been some time since he has been romantic, so he was a bit rusty on how to… romance.
“What a bummer, I was thinking maybe that was a way we could communicate better. I can only imagine what you look like, and yet, I don’t think the picture I have of you in my head matches what you really look like. You said you had long horns, but I have no reference on how long that looks like on you.” You were speaking to him, as per usual, with your own transponder snail.
“Pretty long, I’d say.” Loki nodded to his snail, knowing that vagueness was going to annoy you, and on cue, his transponder snail turned annoyed. “Like I said, I have no reference to what that really looks like!” You barked at him, as he laughed in response. “Dogahaha, I am just messing with you, sæta!”
“You’ve been calling me that word a lot recently, and you know it's not possible for me to get to Elbaf. Stop being such an annoying jerk and tell me what it means already!” His snail continued to bark at him, only making him laugh more. “I already told you the price. If you can’t make it, I guess you’ll never know!”
“Ugh, that sucks. I could be a wrinkly old lady by the time your “sentence” is complete, if it ever is. It sounds like to me that they never plan to let you go!” You complained. You were just as curious to meet Loki as he was to meet you, and even more curious as to learn the real reason he was chained up in the first place.
“I promise, we will meet. I just need to figure out a way to get out of here…” Loki clicked his tongue, looking at his cold surroundings. Of course these chains had to be made out of seaprism stone, making him naturally much weaker. As much as he tried, brute force wasn’t doing anything to bust the chains. The fact he was also cuffed meant he was really stuck.
But to see you… He was getting so antsy, he just couldn’t wait. He was already here for several years.
“Is the carrier pigeon idea completely off the table if it's the kind that can make the trip?” You spoke up, while Loki was racking his brain. His face then lit up with a mischievous smirk; he had an idea.
(Some time after the fact)
“W-What do you mean Loki is not there?! That shouldn’t be possible!” Hajrudin gawked as he was running as quickly as he could to where his little brother should be. He was chained by seaprism stone, and cuffed, to boot! There was no way he could break out…
…Until he saw a very small pigeon waiting exactly where Loki was supposed to be chained up, a letter in its beak as it looked up at the giant.
Hajrudin looked on in utter disbelief, before taking the small letter, and reading it.
“Eldhúsfífl.”
“...Screw you, Loki…”
Against all odds, and with a speck of insanity, Loki somehow managed to get out of Elbaf without being spotted, with his transponder snail and his trusted hammer, Ragnir. You mentioned in previous calls wanting to see him, and that is exactly what he planned to do.
“I am finally free, the time has come!... But I need to freshen up on the next island…” He sniffed himself, before gagging. He wasn’t able to really notice because of the cold before, but he didn’t exactly smell like a basket of roses. For the very first in-person meet up, he couldn’t make a bad impression.
He decided to give you a ring, and after a bit, you picked up. “Hows the weather treating you today?”
“Great. Thanks to that pigeon of yours, I was able to break out. Thanks for sending the things I needed.” Loki smiled, while his transponder snail turned shock.
“W-Wait, WHAAATT?! You were actually able to break out?! I thought the stuff I sent wouldn’t be big enough to do anything!”
“Well, they are, and I am already on my way to see you!... Just, where the hell should we meet?”
“I-I’d have to check a map and see which island is discreet yet big enough for you. I-I can’t believe it, we’re actually going to see each other!” You chirped, now beyond excited. It would be a whole different experience altogether to actually be able to meet Loki in person.
“It’s going to take me some time to get there, but I promise I will. Can’t wait to see you, sæta!”
“I still don’t know what that word means! You better tell me when we meet up!” You demanded with a pout.
“I’ll do more than just that, just you wait!” Loki grinned widely. He had to make everything perfect.
He couldn’t take being rejected a second time, especially to someone he grew to care so much about. He could never tire hearing about your routine, even if it was quite consistent from day to day. Just hearing your voice was all the amusement he needed while he was chained up.
While you two were just talking via transponder snails, the entirety of Elbaf was plunged into chaos at the miraculous disappearance of Prince Loki. No one had any idea just what he had planned to do now that he broke free, besides you.
(little timeskip)
After deciding on the perfect uninhabited island that would be big enough for a giant, you have decided to camp out with all your necessities, eagerly awaiting Loki’s arrival. Did you look okay? Was this going to be enough food for the both of you? Of course it wasn’t, he was a giant! Luckily there were plenty of fish nearby to catch, if only you knew how…
“He’s going to call me when he gets close… He said he was certain he could find his way here… Oh, but what if he can’t? What if something happened to him?...” You spoke aloud to yourself, as you paced anxiously around.
Were you even his type? How would this work out, since he was royalty and you weren’t? You’re technically also his accomplice, but who needed to know that? They shouldn’t have chained up their own prince anyway- Why did they chain up their own prince? So many questions raced through your head, and the anxiety felt like it was going to consume you whole.
That was, until you spotted from the corner of your eye the biggest ship you have ever seen.
And, just as you were looking at it in total awe, your transponder snail started to ring. You eagerly picked it up.
“Loki, I’m here! Is that island sized ship I'm seeing you?” You asked, your heart beating heavily in your chest from sheer anticipation.
That’s when your ears picked up the sound of quick heavy stomps in the distance, as a figure you couldn’t believe stood in front of the ship.
“I-ITS ME!” He yelled into his transponder snail with a wide grin, though it really wasn’t necessary- you could hear his shout quite clearly from the island.
You waved enthusiastically from the shore as the ship approached, the titan of a man going to anchor it before jumping out and running towards you.
“I-Its so nice to finally meet you, sæta!!” Loki scooped you up in his gigantic hands, before spinning around with a laugh.
So many feelings swirled around you, but the most prominent one had to be awe… awe of just how truly ginormous he was. You knew giants were huge, and he did tell you how tall he was, but how could you imagine that kind of size in reality? Your entire body easily fit within the palm of just one of his hands, and he had big hands.
You also found that though he was the type to mess with you, he was being truthful about having muscles as big as mountains. He was quite the muscular man for being chained up for years, and now you knew for sure just how long the horns he had were.
“Wow… So this is what an Ancient Giant looks like, huh?...” You murmured, happy to finally meet him in person at long last, but also still in awe at just how gargantuan he was.
“Yes it is! And this is how puny you are. You’re about as big as one of my pinkies, its so cute!” Loki chuckled as he measured one of his pinkies against your body for reference, making you roll your eyes. “Ha ha, not funny.”
What was also not funny was him then looking for something in one of his pant pockets, before bringing it up to you, and lightly smacking your face with it.
“W-What was that for?!” You barked at him, before noticing that what he smacked you with were flowers, a bouquet of flowers. They consisted mostly of purple flowers, like wood cranesbill and harebells.
Clearing his throat, Loki’s cheeks turned pink. “Here, take these, from me. I hope that these aren’t crappy, and that they make you very happy.” His voice cracked at the end there. Oh no, did he just ruin it?!
“Did you just… recite a poem to me?...”
“Y-Yes, it is customary to, after offering flowers…”
“And this is because?... You like me?…” You guessed, now also starting to feel flustered. This was so very touching, and so unlike the big tough guy you chatted with on the transponder snail.
“I-I told you I did, so just take them!” He turned his head away shyly, biting his lip, as you took them with a smile.
“Thanks, Loki, this is sweet… Though I could do without you slapping me in the face with them first.”
“That is also customary. Do you humans not do that?”
“Not any that I know of.” “Hmph.”
He then gently went to put you back on the ground, where it became even more obvious just how tall he was. You were literally in his shadow, even after he crouched down, to be closer to you.
Thats when your eyes focused on what he was most sensitive about, his concealed eyes. You couldn’t see them due to the bandages covering them. Was now the right time to ask what he meant, by having creepy eyes? How could he see you with those on? Weren’t they uncomfortable?
As if reading your mind, he placed a hand against his bandages. “I… Suppose while we are at it, I’ll show you what I meant, huh?... But just so you know, I won’t hurt you.”
“Of course you wouldn’t.” You shook your head. Was that the kind of reaction he got when someone got a glimpse of his eyes?
Shakily, and very hesitantly, he placed his hand on the bandages, before slowly taking them off, closing his eyes instinctively, as if shielding the horror of what they really were from you.
“Loki, its okay…” You assured him, as he still had yet to open them in fear. He usually was fearless, keeping his true feelings bottled up inside. With you, though… He just wanted to lay everything out, even if the fear of rejection was there.
He began to slowly open his eyes, looking at you, fully unobscured, for the first time. It was strange to see like this, it felt so unnatural to him.
His face looked vulnerable, on edge, as if expecting you to get on your ship and sail out the minute you saw them. To call him a monster, to call him many of the awful things he was used to hearing.
Instead, you looked at him with the same awe you did when you realized just how tall he was.
“Wow… I never saw eyes quite like it… black sceleras and slitted pupils… Is it because of your Ancient Giant heritage?” You asked, admiring his eyes as one would a thoughtful painting.
Loki blinked rapidly in confusion. You weren’t screaming your head off? Insulting him? Was this a dream? Was the shoe about to drop?
“Uh… Yes, it is…” He answered, dumbfounded by your reaction.
“Pfft, and you said you had creepy eyes. I still say that hammer of yours is creepy. Speaking of which, you did promise to show me Ragnir, right?” You reminded him, your eyes sparkling at the very thought.
“U-Uh, yeah, Ragnir! He is right here!” Loki quickly fished out the hammer, who turned into a squirrel that squeaked at you in greeting, before smirking cheekily at Loki with his buck teeth.
“...Don’t you dare…” Loki growled at him, narrowing his eyes, before Ragnir went to mimic kissy faces, before bounding away as Loki gave chase.
“I beat you up before, don’t think I won’t do it again! Stop that crap!” Loki yelled at him, as you sweatdropped at the unbelievable sight of a colossus of a man chasing a giant hammer-turned-squirrel.
When Ragnir decided to finally stop whatever it was he was doing, and turn back into a hammer, you and Loki sat near the shore, watching the waves.
“Now, the big ticket question… Why were you locked up?” You asked him, as he turned solemn.
“Its… Not something I like to think about… But let’s just say I did what I had to do at a great request, that few knew about. I then took the fall for that act without explaining the finer details, so the people of Elbaf didn’t know the truth…” Loki sighed.
“...So its complicated.”
“Yeah, real complicated, but that explains my life.” He laughed humorlessly.
“...Will you go back, to Elbaf?” You asked next. “If you do, they’ll probably have you even more locked up than before.”
“...Eventually, but only if you come back with me.” He looked to you with a soft smile.
“B-But I don’t want you to be chained up again, or to be joining you as your accomplice!”
“They can’t do anything I won’t let them, so you wouldn’t have to worry about that.” He assured.
“Im still worrying about it, regardless!”
“You worry about too many things, sæta.” Loki chuckled softly.
“This is a pretty normal thing to be worried about!” You pointed out, before looking up at him. “Hey, are you finally going to tell me what that word means, or what?” You pouted.
That's when he stiffened, that pink blush dusting his cheeks once again.
“...It means… sweetie…”
“A-And what about that other word you call me from time to time?” You asked, feeling your heart fluttering like a big ol’ butterfly. This entire time, he has been calling you sweetie?
“You get one freebie, and thats it!” Loki declared as he folded his arms, his very muscular arms, that you noticed had a connected tattoo that looks like a bird spreading its wings.
“...How the heck did you get that?”
“By getting it. Its traditional to get tattoos.”
“Ah. its nice.”
“Thanks.”
“Your hair is really pretty.” “Yours too.”
And, like usual, you two started to talk about anything and everything, just like you typically did on the transponder snail.
Strangely enough, it didn’t feel all that strange sitting by Loki after the initial shock of his height. That was honestly more shocking to you than his “creepy eyes”. He never needed to cover them up with you, that you knew for sure.
You’ll also eventually have to try to convince him not to burn the world down, but one thing at a time. You were a bit too busy admiring how he looked at the moment, and he, with you. You were just each other’s type, after all.
