when there’s an old photograph, AND the guy in it is really old, it’s like, wow, that guy is super old
Conrad Heyer, photographed in 1852 at the age of 103. He was born in 1749 and is thought to be the earliest-born person ever photographed.
i am experiencing Emotions about locking photographic gaze with a man who was born in the middle of the 18th century
this dude was an adult already during the american revolutionary war (ish)? he was getting real time news of the unfolding of France's emperors? what

This man was born before the invention of:
The sextant (1757), which allowed precise calculation of your position in the ocean
Lightning rods (1752)
The first English dictionary (1755)
Carbonated water (1767)
Sewing machines (1790)
The cotton gin (1794)
Flush toilets (1775)

this man was photographed before Van Gogh was born (1853)
cat laziness is so contagious. you'll see your cat flopped on its back in your bed a completely comfy cozy baby and you'll be like. you're right. you make a compelling argument.

You know it’s serious science fiction if there’s a dude who’s literally just a fish.
The Little Mermaid is serious science fiction, apparently.
You know The Little Mermaid is serious science fiction because it’s about a daring young xenoanthropologist whose radical theories about alien cultures put her at odds with the reactionary isolationism of her society’s ruling class. Having a dude who’s literally just a fish is a bonus.

No...
I thought I could figure out the referent, but no. I can’t. Which murdered British boys? Someone go back and ask that elderly neighbor or I’ll never be able to sleep again.
King Edward V of England and Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York! They were murdered by their uncle!
There once was a man trying to make a point about the kitchen. "The sink!" He said "the sink is the single most important thing in the kitchen! It washes, it provides drinking water! It helps you prepare all of your meals and cleans your dishes for you after! The sink is the most important!"
"However," said a stranger coming through the crowd "you are forgetting about the countertop. It holds everything in the kitchen together. You prepare your food and serve your food ON the countertop. Even your prescious sink would have no where to be if it weren't for the countertop!"
The man was stunned. He wasn't prepared for a counterargument
I wrote this joke in a sleep deprived rage and its one of the best pieces of writing I have ever produced
