There were moments where Marcel still couldn’t believe he was a father. He loved every minute of it. Watching their daughter start growing into this little human who will soon be running a muck and forming her own opinions. Marcel just wished he could be certain that no one would harm her, but with his mother still out there, he felt this constant hanging fear around him. He had just gotten good at hiding it. Plus, having Emmeline around him was a blessing in every way. She had been someone he knew he could talk to when he needed it. Share his fears and thoughts with, which was something he needed from time to time. He wouldn’t want to be a family with anyone else.Â
Walking into the kitchen, Marcel was doing everything he could in order to make sure the focus of the day was on their daughter and not him. He never liked celebrating his birthday and now had an excuse to celebrate something else. Hearing Emmeline’s question, he paused for a moment as he worked on making his coffee. “Maybe something simple? Spaghetti, steak, or something easy. I mean, Marlene will eat whatever, and same goes for my father.” He offered. “What were you thinking?” Marcel asked, curious as to what her ideas were as he turned to watch their daughter and drink his coffee. “Cake smells good. Finally decide on how you want to decorate it? Sure it’s something bright for the birthday girl.”Â

There was a light exhale as she weight the options in her own mind along with the suggestions that Marcel had given her. He was right with the idea of keeping it simple and Emmeline desperate tried to do just that most days but yet it was never easy for her. There was so much going on outside these four walls and the family that showed up for the daughter had so much going on but yet still they were always here when they needed to be. It was easy to see why keeping it simple wasn’t exactly the easiest task for her... always looking for a way to thank them. “I think you’re right on track with spaghetti. Everyone likes it and Elizabeth loves the mess she can make with it.” Her snort exhaling as the thought came to mind knowing that the messy toddler would give everyone a chuckle.
At the mention of the cake Emmeline instinctively turned to look at the oven that currently was expelling a sweet aroma into the room. “Ah you know, probably something pink or purple with flowers that she will inevitably not remember and take joy in smearing on her face. Isn’t that right Elizabeth?” Her head turning to look at the toddler behind her with a smile before standing taller and closing the oven that she’d peeked in to look at. “The whole day off... are you even going to know what to do with yourself?” She questioned with a smirk as she turned her attention back to Marcel.
