A Little Help: Pietro and Bobby
fallenheropietro:
âThereâs always a chance that this thing isnât actually meant to help us, but instead to destroy us,â Pietro almost choked out. His throat had gone dry from all this talkingâit wasnât typical for him to say more than a couple sentences at once. Grabbing a cup of water, he gulped down the drink before gathering himself and trying to speak again.Â
He rested his head against the pillow, his whole body going limp except for the hand holding the little plastic cup. Looking up from his lashes, Pietro analyzed the man who stood before him. He was kindâthat was obvious. A little bit short but well built. A fighter, but a regretful one. Almost as though he was only part of the X-Men because he felt there was no other way to achieve peace. Pietro admired that: he was selfless. That was a trait that seemed all too rare in this world.Â
âIâŚI trust you. I know itâs crazy out there, so I really appreciate you coming out to see me and answering my stupid questions. Itâs a relief to know that I wonât lose my powers. Thanks, Mr. DraâBobby.â He could feel himself relax some, but at the same time, he was still horribly worried. As much as he wanted to believe the manâs âeverything is going to be okayâ mantra, something told him that things were just going to get worse.
âPeople have tried in the past, and weâre still here. I think they forget how damn stubborn we are as a group.â It was exhausting to constantly be up in arms, but if that was how they had to survive, heâd make sure they kept on swinging. Heâd been doing just as much since he was sixteen years old, and he didnât see it changing any time soon -- one day, sure, but not now. Now, they just had to survive this disease.Â
He nodded his head, understanding the words of trust for the rarity they were. Trusting someone these days was a gift that could be easily revoked; he didnât want that to happen. âIâm glad you called. It makes me feel a bit like a superstar, if Iâm being honest with you. I donât know much about you, but Iâm sure youâve got a thousand and one reasons to live. Every time you doubt youâll make it, start making that list for yourself. Hang onto them, and youâre hanging onto life. Youâll make it.âÂ
