I honestly love how Dou Zhao is completely oblivious to some of their intimacy and sensuality, often not even noticing what are incredibly romantic moments. Especially when she’s the one often initiating them- both before and after marriage. The post-prison coat scene? And that wound-tending scene where she tucked his hair behind his ear was so incredibly beyond intimate, but she didn’t even notice. Let’s not even mention the wedding night undressing only to reveal a murder map. Now she’s disrobing and bathing him and they haven’t even properly kissed? And these moments so clearly did him in. I love it because this really speaks to how lifeless and loveless her marriage in her previous life really was. She may be more lived than he is, but she’s equally as inexperienced in this aspect. I appreciate that they are on equal footing in so many ways and avoid falling into what is often a second-life OP trope that I dislike. She’s brilliant and has a general idea of what the future could hold, but she’s still flawed and immature and inexperienced in many facets of life.
