âż - from anyone u want
10: french kiss
"Excuse me, but I need to ask you somethingâŠCan I give you a kiss of sorts? Perhaps one from the country of France?"
"Excuse me?" He honestly did not understand half of that.
"Iâm asking if I can give you a kissâŠA French kissâŠ."
Fu-reeenchi. Kisu...Sounds like...OH. Oh okay. "You're asking me if..." He pauses. "If you can...french kiss me?"

4. Sitting next to each other on a packed bus or train
He hadnât expected the train to be so full today, so there he was, trying to save as much space as possible with a few empty flowerpots stacked on top of each other on his lap. His stop wasnât coming up for a while, so who knew how long the train would be so cramped.
Well, might as well make conversation with the person next to him, whatâs the worst that can happen? Probably murder but- No nevermind letâs not think about that. Vanja turned his head to his neighbor and cleared his throat. âThe train isnât normally like this. Not sure why itâs so busy today.â
"Ahh, youâre welcome miss! Iâm pretty sure anyone would think the same thing as me about your job, it is very neat." He nodded to himself. "And thank you, im-i-ta-te. Imitate. There we go."
"Wooow! Thatâs a lot of languages! " He counted them off as she listed them as well. "Thatâs uhâŠichiâŠgo, rokuâŠhachiâŠEight whole languages youâre fluent in! Thatâs impressive Iâve never met someone who knows that much. I only know Norwegian, English, and a bit of Japanese haha.â
"Heh, thanks again!" Lorelai gave a small nod. "It probably helps that I grew up speaking two languages - my parents taught me English, and their native language, which was Khmer. And from there I started studying other languages. Spanish and French were pretty easy, but I think Japanese has to be the hardest Iâve learned yet, what with the different alphabets and all."
"Youâd be surprised, though - I heard the world record for most languages spoke fluently was 57!"
"No problem once again." Vanja tilted his head a bit. "I only know English since I lived in a rather wealthy family and went to private school. My parents hoped I would go to Amerika for...hĂžyskole so English was necessary to learn."
"Woooah, really? That seems im-impossible. I know a bit of different languages but I could never be fluent in them."

"Ohhhh, thatâs cool! It seems hard but you do it so easily! Dialects are like, region speech then? Okay. Now I know that word." You learn something new each day, in his case itâs quite a few things each day.
"It seems fun! Do you know otherâŠummâŠlangua-languages? too or are you just able to." Dangit whyâd he choose a complicated sentence like this. "Imitere dialects? Sorry I donât know quite enough of the language yet.â
"Ah, thank you!" Lorelai nodded. "It is pretty hard to learn at first; it definitely helped me that I already knew quite a bit about linguistics, and how different regions form different dialects and such."
Lorelai giggled a bit at Vanjaâs mispronunciation of the word. âDonât worry; everyone makes mistakes when learning new languages; especially one as complex as Japanese. The word I think youâre looking for is âimitate.ââ Lorelai cocked her head to the side.
"But yes, now that you ask, I do!" Lorelai counted off each language on her fingers. "I know English, Khmer, Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, German and Japanese. Iâm still learning Japanese, though, so Iâm not fluent quite yet."

"Ohhh. Okay I donât know why I didnât assume you knew from my name." He half sighed, half laughed. "But your a uhhhâŠdia-dialect? coach? Whatâs that mean?" This is actually his first time hearing the word âdialectâ in Japanese.
"Oh! It means I teach actors and actresses how to speak in different accents or dialects for their roles in movies or tv shows! Like, if a character is from the deep southâŠ" Lorelai changed her voice to a typical "Southern Belle" voice. "Ah teach âem how ta sound somethinâ like this."
Switching back into her normal voice, Lorelai continued, âItâs actually a really fun job!â

He chuckled. âItâs probably just a very busy day. Nothing much to it.â
"I am! Iâm from Norway! Howâd you know?" Was his accent that bad? Heâs been here for like a year he thought his accent improved, well it did but he guesses not that much.
"Heh, ya accent anâ ya name." Instead of speaking in her normal, natural dialect, Lorelai instead used a Brooklyn accent as she explained. "Iâve studied linguistics, anâ Iâm a dialect coach, so I can tell where peopleâre from offa that sorta thing."
"Ohhh. Okay I don't know why I didn't assume you knew from my name." He half sighed, half laughed. "But your a uhhh...dia-dialect? coach? What's that mean?" This is actually his first time hearing the word 'dialect' in Japanese.

"Maybe thatâs it. Though if theyâre all going to an event, wouldnât we get news about it?" He nodded, it was pretty good they were able to get seats what with this whole train being crowded. "Mm, itâs very good we donât have to stand. Thatâs not the funnest."
Vanja took one of his hands off of his flowerpots and shook her hand. âVanja. Itâs uh, nice to meet you miss Lorelai.â
"You would think soâŠah, who knows?" Lorelai gave a dismissive wave of her hand.
"And nice to meet you, as well." Lorelai smiled and shook the others hand, taking note of the flowerpots in his lap. "HmmmâŠVanja." Lorelai tilted her head at the foreign name, as well as Vanjaâs accent. "You are fromâŠScandinavia, correct?"
He chuckled. "It's probably just a very busy day. Nothing much to it."

Lorelai glanced over at the person sitting next to her who had just spoken up, and shook her head. âI donât know either; maybe thereâs some sort of big event going on that weâre not aware of?â Lorelai shrugged. âI donât mind too much though; at least we donât have to stand, right?â
Lorelai smiled and extended her hand. âIâm Lorelai, by the way.â
