Hi! This is a bit off-topic, but I've been reading your answers to other people's Asks and noticed you talk about your job in marketing.
I'm currently preparing to get into the marketing field, and honestly, I don't really know who to ask for advice. You always seem so kind and generous with your answers, so I thought I'd take a chance and ask.
If you don't mind, could you share any advice on breaking into marketing? I'd really appreciate any tips or guidance you have. Thank you so much!
hi!! just found this in my inbox and thought it would be good to answer :-)
i am happy to help! i was a psych major, english minor in college. i had a ton of different internships when i was in uni, which helped build my resume before i actually graduated. i also joined as many clubs as possible like i made sure my shit was STACKEDDD. the most important thing hiring managers look for (and this is coming from someone who hires interns for her team) is hunger and a desire to learn. if i see an applicant has a ton of internship experience/club experience/ a built out portfolio, i always give them a chance in terms of an interview. i would also spend time perfecting your resume + showing your creativity, since marketing is all about telling the story of a brand.
one of the hardest skills new hires struggle with is understanding analytics, like how we use our CRM to understand those metrics to tie to revenue. i would do a few google cert courses to try and gain some experience before!!
i hope this is helpful :-)
