Historic 1680′s carriage house/barn in Newport, Rhode Island was converted into a stunning home. And, it’s just a block from the harbor.
The owners left the beautiful beams and columns and put in lots of bookshelves and quirky little nooks.
There’s a plethora of antiques like this inlaid writing desk and closet made of old doors.
Old back stairs lead to the kitchen. The wood is superb, and the barn doors are featured throughout the house. Isn’t that a fabulous cupboard?
There’s an old door casually leaning against the kitchen island. The house looks like it’s pieced together, but it works.
The kitchen isn’t cookie cutter- it’s put together with miscellaneous cabinetry. The gray one on either side of the farm sink look like tool chests.
This diving bird is carved right into the railing.
Look at all the quirky things- there’s a clothesline and a hanging scale next to an elegant brass chandelier.
The bath is big & modern, and features a carving of an old elf holding a basket. I like a bit of quirkiness.
Back entrance has a little shed for gardening tools.
One of the owners took advantage of the rooftop access and brought a chair up there.
