this movie is really good actually and i think people went in with a different expectation than what was given. olliver is the villain of this story, period. but he does it in the most interesting way. he wasnt coming from a place of poverty, he came from upper middle class himself. he wanted power and he found a way to manipulate that for himself. the family was incredibly rich, sure, and therefore the obvious "bad guys", but the problem with that line of thinking is forgetting that theyre still human. we're all human, in the end. i think it was a super interesting twist of storytelling, with how a lot of movies+series have been lately, to show the rich family as being interesting & compelling characters and moreso to show them actually being family, hanging out and enjoying each others' company. olliver came in with the intention to sabotage, but he fell for felix in the process. i think the part that really solidified his resolve was the party when farleigh told him that this summer was nothing but a dream (midsummer night's dream) for him, that it would never be his for real.
i ALSO really enjoyed the cinematography & the imagery of the movie. icarus in the labyrinth, fallen before the minotaur. the overflowing cup of wine, the blood. the yearning. every scene, every shot, was incredibly deliberate in its storytelling, and i find that so rare in movies these days.
ANYWAY all this to say, i think it was a really good movie, it was compelling storytelling nd I really enjoyed it and all the hate is extra funny cuz yall cant handle a lil bit of fucked up queer storytelling 🤪
