every time i watch the sixth sense i can't get over the choice to give lynn and cole a siberian husky puppy and then treat it like it's a low-maintenance adult household dog. as if that wouldn't be an all-consuming aspect of their daily lives. have you ever been around a husky? a puppy no less? but it's supposed to be an unremarkable background aspect of their lives and the movie's plot. we see it only a few times and it's completely unsupervised and causing no problems at all. they leave it home alone all day unkenneled. toni collette is like "i work 2 jobs and someone is hurting my son please god help me" and bruce willis is like "how can i help this family?" and of course the plot tells us the problem is that cole is nine years old and sees ghosts. but the truth i know as the viewer is that a husky puppy in their philadelphia apartment would be tearing their fucking lives apart.

hey, sorry if this has been asked before. But what do you do in UE4 that allows you to do the visual novel text box? I've attempted it in UE5 but the tutorial I used was very fiddly.

I tried looking for the tutorial I used, but it's been so very long and I can't find it :(

I am bad at explaining and also use spaghetti nodes but basically: The text string is cut up into each individual character!

You need at least two widgets: the text, and your interface

The text is a veryyy simple widget with, well, only the text. Here one can apply an animation per letter. Should probably use a rich text block for better control, but i just used plain text.

Then you have the interface to put it all together. Whatever UI elements you want. Just need a wrap box in there so that the text doesn't go off screen. Each letter is added to the wrap box as a child component with a delay!

When the widget sees that it has gone through the whole string, it toggles the visibility of the arrow dialogue marker. You can also add things like text noises as everything gets printed to the screen. Customize the functionality and such.

There is probably way better ways to do this, and I have not tried UE5 yet so there may be new/different things. Just my noodly duct-taped setup! I hope it helps a little
