✗life (fibers)
✗He didn’t know why, but striking up fires made him nervous. Some ember of a phobia possibly stemming from where his memories could not reach. Though once the hard part was over, and the flame was stoked and ready for a night’s worth of providing warmth, he found solace in its glow— and no longer felt afraid.
Cold and comfortless nights weren’t an option for Senketsu, and there was no way he was going to give way to some nameless fear and huddle before smolders in the night, listening to nothing but the chirps of crickets and lashing of the wind through the grasslands that surrounded his shack. Just the thought sent a small chill clawing its way up his spine, but he dismissed it with a roll of his shoulders, in favour of a doze by the fire.
Mornings were hell, as was what followed; he guzzled a jug of coffee, ironing out the wrinkles set in his bones after falling asleep yet again in a space unfit for a human body. A few sporadic realignments of the joints, cracking and creaking with but one stretch of his arms towards the ceiling, and he was done. Somewhat groggy until the caffeine works its way through his system, but done. Set for another day of heavy-lifting for a gaggle of elitists who thought themselves above the norm of social standings thanks to the quality of fabric they donned. They kept him around for his unchallenged ability to shoulder boxes and boxes of shipments without complaint. He didn’t mind, the pay was what kept him going. In truth, by now he had enough saved to afford a condo in the centre of Kairos, or to renovate the squalor he forces himself to live in— but he simply continued to reserve those paychecks for something more dire.
He didn’t know what yet, but Senketsu was sure the opportunity would present itself in the future.
He had no obligations that demanded a weekly bill— just a precious friend he would gift with the occasional visit and a 50 dollar note. But for now, it was time for a commute to Kairos, the burden of early mornings wearying his already rumpled features. Any moment now, the coffee would kick in, sending him into a restless rampage about the factory. The hours would whiz by fast in the mornings and before he knew it, the entire vicinity would break for lunch.
.... I'm hungry.
He pined in silence as he disembarked the train, earning a fair few anxious glances, as always. His intimidating visage and refusal to speak had garnered some ire amongst the train goers.
Luckily, he was well shot of concern for their staring.
Sleepy... Getting up was always so tiring... Especially in mornings for school, or worse, to go to the hospital. With a working mother, she didn't exactly have anyone to take her, but she'd gotten into the routine, reluctantly dragging herself to the train, and then wherever it was she needed to go after that. She didn't like going alone, but she technically was old enough...
Well, with the stuffed animal wrapped tightly in her arms as she got on the train she supposed that she wouldn't be quite alone. The girl pulled the stuffed animal closer and closer as if for some form of moral support. Only looking away when the train came to a halt and she was forced to get off, dragging her feet the entire time. The child nearly walked straight into back of the other passenger who'd just gotten off. "Ah...?"
Slowly the blonde tilted her head back, curiosity on her face before looking around at the people who seemed to be staring at the man. Now why would they stare at him like that? Carefully she lifted her hands to grab his forearm for balance as she leaned around him to stare up at his face instead of the back she was originally met with. Confusion only grew. Nope, nothing seemed wrong with him, at least in her childish eyes. Maybe...
"AH!" She let go of him and ran around in front. Digging through the white bag she carried she pulled out her a box of her favourite peach pulp juice (Slimy Thick Peach Flavor, 500% Concentrate) and offered it to the man. "It's good!" She told him expecting him to take it. "If you smile, people might not stare so much." That... probably wasn't true, but who knew.
Outings.
Tsumugu had been going about his day, doing things he normally would. It had started to feel like a routine, especially now that he was on his own. So far, the days had dragged by, people and places blurring in his memory as he staggered through life.
Eventually, he had all but given up on finding something exciting to do, and he knew he was sometimes talked about for his mostly blank expression. Sighing to himself as he went through another day, he walked to the library and walked in, looking around at the cases and rows of books. The smell of old paper, ink, and candles filled his nostrils and he smiled, his body relaxing instantly.
The library was always a good place when he couldn’t see the sea, so he headed off to the rows of books, finding one before attempting to scoot in and bumping shoulders with someone trying to grab a book where he stood.
"Ah, sorry." The words were soft, dull, but dark hues quickly shifted over and he bowed some.
So many books! Somewhere in here there would be books on dinosaurs! She was sure of it, she didn't know where, but it would be her mission to find something to read, all on her own. With a bounce in her step she moved among the shelves, excitement and delight written on the girl's fine features.
She wasn't sure of how long she'd been going through shelf after shelf, book after book. She gave up bringing them back to a table or chair to sit down, instead leafed through them right at the shelves, humming the whole time. The only time she stopped was when she felt the nudge against her side. "Huh?"
Blue eyes widened, confusion set in. And then he was... apologizing? "A-a-ah!" Waving her hands quickly the girl gave a bow as well. "I'm sorry!" The apology quickly stammered out.
"...Huh?" The moment she straightened out and was looking up at him, she couldn't help but feel concerned. "Is something wrong? Aren't you having fun?" Because there was no possible way that people came to the library for anything other than fun.
From a distance, you hear a loud gasp.
"My dear… You look absolutely—" Ringabel sputters, truly taken aback by the young maiden’s beauty. Wow. "You look absolutely… fashionaaaaaaaaaabluh!"
"R-Really?!" She gasps back. "Niha..." A faint laugh, and a bright smile. "Thank you!!!"
"H-how does it look? Am I wearing it right?!"
o1} The Walking Stick {Open}
When you were sick enough that you had to stay home from school there was little to actually do. When you were home alone there was even less to do. And with boredom at an all time high, there was only one thing to do, chase the bird that just happened to be outside your window at that point! Yes, Misuzu was home sick from school, and now outside chasing birds.
"No! Wait!" The blonde called in an almost horrified voice. The bird seemed content to play with her too. Hopping a little and flying only a few feet away, as though they were playing tag. "Come back!" Now she was practically whining as she chased the small animal. And then? A loud thud sounded out and she met face first with the ground. Fingers twitched but otherwise she seemed to play dead for a good minute, long enough to have the bird hopping closer to her.
Too quickly she sat up. "Niha," laugh escaping into the air as she gave the now very startled animal a 'v'. And then... She was alone again. The bird taking off and leaving her on the dirt covered road. "G-gao..." Expression falling a little the teen started to swipe at her face as if to clean it, though she only succeeded in smearing the dirt more and more with each pass. "What now...?" The girl got to her feet, dusting off her skirt and looking over her shoulder into the ditch as though an idea would pop up out of nowhere, and it did.
"AH!!!" Shouting she allowed herself to slide down the small slope and immediately got on her hands and knees, leaning in close to a rock. "Ah! Ah!" She was totally captivated now, not even noticing a thing in the world around her. Whatever had caught her attention definitely seeming to entertain the very bored girl.
[I’m still trying to work out a few ideas for Misuzu’s past (more specifically, what to do with the illness she has and how to translate it into this setting… (Seriously diseases are hard, especially when you don’t know anything about most of them). But um… if anyone wants to have a pre-established relationship with Misuzu?]
This is the end of my dream. My wings forgot how to fly, since I only kept pretending to flap them. Is there a meaning to wings that can’t fly?
