‘I lost my best friend’
Hi!
Just so you know, I’m completely obsessed with Good Omens and Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship.
So, the other day I was listening to David and Michael’s interview, and Michael said: “No one understands what is like to be them’, and that inspired me to write something.
So, there you go....If you read it, thank you for your time, and I hope you like it.

Aziraphale and Crowley were walking around Green Park.
The war had been avoided, the world saved, and all that was left was peace and silence, especially between them. Well, especially because Aziraphale couldn’t really think of a right way to start the conversation.
For the last hour, he had been intensely immersed in his own thoughts, reflecting on a specific phrase that Crowley said right before Armageddon started.
‘I lost my best friend’
Aziraphale didn’t want to admit it, but there was a not so tiny part of him that thought, and hoped, that Crowley was talking about him.
‘I lost my best friend’
Could he actually be talking about him though? He knew Crowley didn’t have a lot of other people to talk to, so he couldn’t imagine he could possibly have another best friend. But still, he wasn’t sure. There were so many creatures in hell and so many of them might have been more similar to Crowley than he could have ever hoped to be.
‘I lost my best friend’
He wanted so much to ask, but he didn’t know how.
‘I don’t recall Gabriel cutting your tongue’, Crowley said.
‘What?’
‘You’ve been so quiet, too quiet. I never thought I’d say this, but I prefer when you’re over stressed and can’t stop talking rather than this mute version of you’
‘I’m sorry Crowley, I was just thinking’
‘About what? The world is safe, your bookshop is safe, we are safe, what on hell could you possibly be thinking about to be this quiet?’.
Aziraphale stopped walking. He didn’t know how to address the subject, but Crowley was looking at him, and he could feel the impatience of his eyes even from under his sunglasses.
‘I lost my best friend’
He had to say something.
‘I was thinking about us...I mean you....Well, me actually....Well, you and me.....I mean......see? Now I’m over stressed again so I hope you’re happy’.
Aziraphale started walking again, this time nervously and faster, but Crowley went after him and stopped in front of him. He was smiling at him, calm and satisfied.
‘Oh Angel, you know you keep surprising me? What’s the matter?’
Aziraphale sighed.
‘Well, I kept thinking about, well....given the circumstances you were in, maybe you were exaggerating, and I think you were drunk....so maybe that was nothing....but I couldn’t stop thinking about that. And...well, you said once you have a lot of people to fraternize with, so maybe you do have a lot of people....and, I mean, I don’t know.....’
‘Aziraphale.....you’re not making any sense. Get to the point for hell’s sake’
‘Am I your best friend?’
There you go. Aziraphale asked. He asked and he couldn’t take it back, but he saw that Crowley was looking at him without answering, so he tried to make the question more specific.
‘The other day, after we had a fight, and I came to visit you...well, it wasn’t actually me, but, you know....when I asked you if there was something wrong, you said that you had lost your best friend. Were you talking abut me?
Crowley kept staring at him without saying a word. Aziraphale’s heart was pounding.
‘You know what? Forget about it, I was being nonsense. It doesn’t matter, probably you won’t even remember. Where do you wanna go? The Ritz? Or there’s a nice restaurant in Covent Garden I’d like you to-‘
‘How could you possibly think I was talking about somebody else?’
‘Wh.....what?’, Aziraphale was now speechless.
‘We had a fight and I abandoned you. Your bookshop was on fire and there was nobody there. I thought I had lost you....how could you even think that I was referring to somebody else?’
‘Yes but...but....I let you down...and you always say that you have a lot of people to pass your time with and-’
‘Fraternize.....a lot of people to fraternize. I only really talk to and hang out and trust one angel...’
Crowley was smiling again now.
‘You mean.....’
‘Gabriel, I mean Gabriel. Of course it’s you Aziraphale, Satan damn it’
‘Right, right, just to be sure. Thank you. And to clarify, the feeling is mutual.’
Aziraphale paused for a moment.
‘I don’t think there’s someone who really understands what it’s like to be us’.
‘I don’t think there is’, Crowley said, smiling.
Aziraphale couldn’t look at him now. He felt flattered and grateful, and he, really really loved him. But he kept that to himself.
‘So, that Covent Garden’s restaurant. Shall we go?’ Crowley asked.
‘After you’, Aziraphale said, smiling back at him.
