so imagine a soulmate au where whatever injuries you get reflect on your soulmate's body. now imagine a shubh who is in a really dark place.

he's tired because of the schedule, he's constantly playing and travelling, the recent ipl loss, the frustration at not being able to contribute and at his own fluctuating form. he starts cutting himself whenever he doesn't do well or the team loses. cue the marks appearing on his soulmate's wrists too and them being freaked.

this soulmate doesn't even know who they're bonded to, whose cuts are appearing on their wrists, but they set out to find who it is and rescue them (him)

i imagine the soulmate as pat but it can be whoever you want hehe

This is a very random observation I know, but I can't help but notice that in this IPL Mitch has not been wearing his rather *distinctive* wedding ring and I know he's got his silicon ring on and it's just a weird observation I guess, but can't help but notice it, cause for a guy who's pretty much always seen with his ring except in active matches, it looked just off.

also, disclaimer: we're truly just winging this au, just taking pieces from other omegaverse fics that we like

how they dealt with it when they were younger:

their inner alpha/omega probably knew early on after they first met that the other is their mate. i can see them unconsciously pining for each other without knowing it

they only realize it when they leave their room after a heat/rut and a sister comments on them whimpering the other's name, much to their embarrassment

going through heats or ruts alone would be painful to them, though, because their alpha/omega sides know the other is their mate and can't understand why they're not there with them. it drives them crazy

so maybe after they realize they have feelings for each other, but before the confessions, while they still think it's unrequited, they make an agreement to help each other out. they're close and trust each other a lot, after all

and then the next day they act like everything is normal, even though it kills them. they both think that this is one sided

maybe shub purposely leaves behind his things for abhi's nest and abhi very conveniently forgets to return them too

shubman especially has been given a serious use condoms talk

maybe the way others can tell when shub's rut is near is when he starts getting incredibly possessive over abhi (more than usual) and glares at anyone who even looks his way

it would require such self control on shub's part not to mate abhi right then and there, because you just know that boy's whining for it. the one thing that does keep him from going over that line is wanting abhi to ask that when he's sane and in control of his thoughts (aka the a/b/o version of ask me when you're sober)

abhi would misunderstand this as in he keeps asking shub to mate him but he never agrees to it, so obviously it must mean that this is not something serious to the other

obviously after all that vulnerability during these days, they'd probably be too embarrassed to have a proper conversation about anything. maybe they avoid each other for a bit

how they finally end up mated:

abhi starts to lose hope that shubman will ever claim him. this coincides perfectly well with the arrival of the new boy, mayank, who's a couple years older than them

the other boys know that even if they're not official, abhi and shubman belong with each other, but mayank doesn't know this. besides, abhiman are still in their denial phase, so even if mayank asks them if they're dating, they're like noooo

mayank is so nice that he's the last person anyone would expect to make a move against shubman. he isn't egoistical or stuck up because he's an alpha so abhi's just like. why not give him a chance?

even better if abhi is so used to nobody else hitting on him, so he doesn't even realise until way later that mayank is trying to court him. abhi thinks that he's just not appealing as an omega when no one hits on him, but it's just because shub throws a stink eye to anyone who even thinks of trying

shubman does not take this well.

(imagine shubman putting on his best intimidating face when he asks mayank if he likes abhi and mayank just asks him all puzzled 'why, are you dating him?' and then shub is immediately all sputtering and lost)

mayank happens to be there when abhi goes into heat one time and shubman physically can't hold back at the sight of his omega near another alpha like that

that heat triggers shubman's rut and they both resurface with mating marks on their necks

shubman feels terrible because abhi couldn't consent to that, and abhi (who was thrilled) of course immediately thinks shubman regrets it

they probably can't avoid each other like they used to because they're tied now and can feel what the other is going thru. so they have to talk it out and realize they've been so stupid all along

how they deal with heats/ruts while playing:

we already know the bcci isn't going to give a flying fuck about people's cycles. they're expected to play despite it, which is very stupid, because if someone goes into heat it could trigger others and then even more players would have to take care of them

but they'd just expect players to take pills to delay or avoid it if a matchday coincides with that date, even if it has harmful implications

substitutes would be there, but everybody knows that if they end up taking the day off, bcci will side-eye them. "players who really want to play will find a way" and all

in the ipl:

they're both not well suited to having the other away from them for a prolonged period of time. no wonder shubman always looks so stressed

abhi can get very needy and clingy and his outlet for that is usually ishan, because not many others agree to cuddle with him. it pisses shubman off that the only person who agrees to cuddle abhi is another fucking alpha

the media love speculating about ishan and abhi's relationship, whether abhi is cheating on shubman or not

apart from ishan, abhi ends up dumping all his caring attitudes onto nitish, the only other omega on the team and fusses over him

in domestic/international matches:

i think in 2023-24 they were pretty separated, with shub and then abhi travelling for matches and dealt with their heats/ruts alone

shubman is so conflicted at the thought of abhi being in someone else's care during his heat, but he doesn't want him to have a terrible time either

he probably leaves it to abhi. tells him that he'd understand if he chooses to have someone else with him during the heat while shubman is away. that person wouldn't fuck him of course, unless that's something they're both okay with (unlikely) but sometimes just to be there to comfort him through it

ishan, nitish, axar, dube and shivam mavi are probably their most trusted circle in case of emergencies

the heat/rut in january 2026:

like we said before, they've been apart much of the time for quite a while, so when their cycles sync up in january after being together a lot in late 2025, it's really intense

they go at it all day. for s e v e ra l days

they need a few extra days to recover. abhi's definitely not walking for a while

they've sent out warnings to their friends and family because god forbid anyone tries to visit them during that time

the memory of what they did is enough to make them horny again but their bodies are too tired

despite all their efforts, they run out of condoms and decide to still keep going anyway. abhi probably over-estimated his birth control, so when the condoms ran out he says it's fine

but he ends up pregnant

imagine him finding out and when shubman returns home the whole place reeks of stress and he thinks something bad must have happened and gets scared, but it's just abhi afraid about breaking it to him

shubman's thrilled though. and a little smug
