but can we TALK about the racialized subtext of "his wife has filled his house with chintz" linking together femininity, indian export goods, commercialism, and superficiality vs "to keep it real I fuck him on the floor" linking together masculinity, AAVE, authenticity, sexuality, and vulgarity? if our aim as critics of poetry is to reevaluate this text and arrive at a feminist interpretation then we must also consider the poem's vexed relationship to race so as to not be anti-black in our criticism of the piece's presentation of masculinized sexuality nor uncritically reproduce and elevate its image of orientalized femininity.

Like truly do people think liberation struggles occur because the people of the global south are so principled and virtuous?

Like do any people from imperialist nations actually think we risk our lives to send a message? Like is the goal of resistance groups to get global recognition of their virtue and strength? No. They would all rather be teachers and farmers and lovers and parents.

Liberation struggles only occur because there is nothing convenient and dignifying about life under subjugation. Life cannot continue as it is.

Imperialists do not fight because life can continue very comfortably as it is for them. And guilt is a very cheap price to pay.
