The Twins take on Belvoire
Be gentle on me. I had some ideas in my head and wanted to let them free.
Warnings: Just cursing, mention of a death
The hum of her Ford Bronco, the sun beating down through her moonroof, going probably faster than she should. Bea wanted to get to Belvoire early so she could get settled before classes started. She spent all year looking at brochures hoping for a new start. She remembers staring at the quad on the front for hours. Something about this place called to her, pulling her in like a siren. The university was prestigious, winning sports teams, top tier academics, and a gorgeous campus. She left Farmsville in her rearview mirror hoping for something different. Belvoire seemed to be just what she was hoping for, something new.
Driving through the open road just a couple hours out from her temporary home and her mind started to drift. This is her chance to be what she wants and explore who she really wants to be. A Rubicon sped past her while honking. She thought she was going fast, but of course her twin wanted to start a race right now. She honked at her twin signaling she didnāt feel like being pulled over today.
She and her sister were inseparable like most twins. They argued, but what siblings donāt nowadays. They had got their first tattoos at the same time, their driverās test passed together, and now they were at the same college together. Their parents always pushed them to be the very best. The whole town thought of them as the golden duo even though her sister was more a rule breaker than Bea was. Bea was always too worried about getting caught and her parents looking at her disappointed. While Sabina was out partying, hooking up with girls, Bea spent her time studying at home. Getting Bea to go out was like pulling teeth. It was a rare occasion.
She had always been what everyone wanted of her. Balancing the work on the farm and schoolwork while making straight Aās. Everyone knew of Bea; valedictorian, prom queen, and the perfect daughter. She never was able to break free and be who she wanted. She just wanted to do something she wanted for once.
New York would be so much different than the Midwest. What if itās too different? She shakes her head, pushing the insecurities to the back of her mind. She is in the land of skyscrapers and good pizza (She loved any pizza, so this was an even bigger bonus). Her Bluetooth started ringing and sure enough Sabina was calling.
āYes Sab, what do you want?ā
āWell at first, I was going to ask why you were driving like a granny but, also I want coffee. Iāll buy and even get you a cookie if you stop with me.ā
āYou had me at coffee, but I will never say no to a cookie.ā
āThere is a dirty joke in there, but I wonāt go there. Follow me to a place up ahead.ā
They pulled into a small local shop; it was quite cute. They both cataloged it into their mind so they could come back for their fix. Sabina stretched and could hear her shoulders crack. It felt like absolute euphoria. Bea stretched as well moving her jelly legs around before walking into the shop.
Sabina noticed the cute barista and quickly fixed her leather jacket. She walked up and gave her a winning smile.
āMay I please get 2 cold brews please with both vanilla and cream.ā
āAlso 2 chocolate chip cookies.ā Bea interrupted. Sab playfully pushed her, and Bea went to go sit down while her sister flirted with the barista. Sabina came over with the cold brew and the cookies. They relaxed while enjoying the cute shop. There were vinyl records on the wall with soft music playing throughout.
āSo did you get it Sab?ā
āWhatever could you be talking about sister?ā She had a smirk on her face while she played dumb. Before Bea could speak, she threw a paper on the table with the baristaās number. Hm, Selene.
āCute name. You are so predictable whenever there is a pretty girl Sab.ā
āWhat can I say, Iām a sucker for beautiful women.ā (Same Sab)
They got back into their respective vehicles and continued their drive to campus.
Just 20 minutes away and the air was different, the smell of the city assaulted her nose. It was going to take some getting used to.
Her heart started to race at the thought of entering a new world. She had dreamt starting her freshman year here and finally her dream came true. Unfortunately, it came at a price she had yet to recover from, her aunt was her best friend. She loved her aunt from going to buy a new movie every Tuesday, to staying in for her famous hot chocolate. She felt the world crumble around her when her mother called to inform her of her auntās passing. Her auntās murder was unexpected and shook her family to its core. The person was never found, but Bea knew when they found them she would put them six feet under.
Her aunt left her family a fortune and now they will never have to worry about money ever again. Sometimes she regretted even spending it because it felt wrong. She had her dream car and her parents even surprised her and Sab with matching motorcycles they dreamt about when they were just 15.
Finally, after driving 12 hours straight and 4 cold brews Bea made it to Belvoire it was even more mesmerizing in person. The buildings vaguely resembled a school and more like a metropolis.
āOk because this isnāt even more nerve-rackingā she whispered, staring at the estate presented. She parked in front of what she assumed was her new dorm building, though it looked more like a hotel. She was exhausted and wanted to just crash into her bed, but she was too excited and decided to go for a walk.
āHey Sab, I am going to go for a walk, feel like joining?ā
āOf course, I can't let my sister get into trouble by herself, now, can I?ā
The more they walked, it felt like being in the presence of the Mona Lisa. Eyes looking at you no matter where you moved.
āWow they really let anyone roam campus huhā. āOh my gosh, are those shoes even designer?ā
Bea knew with everyone staring at her that they were talking about her. Of course, she wished that they heard of whispering, but I guess if you grew up with golden toilet paper you donāt have to worry about other peoplesā feelings.
She wouldnāt let them bother her though. She will do whatever it takes to be happy and carefree. This was about going to her dream school, getting an education, and finally being whoever she wanted. Sabina heard one of the insults about Bea and stomped toward them and was ready for a brawl. Her face was red and she pulled up her sleeves ready for contact. Everyone stared in awe. Bea pulled her back.
āSab, this is not the place for that. Can we have a normal life without trouble? What would mom and dad say to us?ā
āSomething like Sab donāt ruin your sister's chances of doing well. Canāt you be like your perfect sister for once.ā
āIām serious Sab, you know they donāt actually think that.ā
āOk Bea, I get it! I will chill.ā Sab took a deep breath and felt her shoulders relax a bit.
Sabina was always used to being compared to Bea. Even when they were kids, she felt overshadowed by Bea. She never let her sister in how she felt. Bea was only older by six minutes, but her parents treated them so differently. Bea always was better in their parentsā eyes, no matter what she was one upped. When she went to parties, she felt like she was her own person. None of the women she met at parties compared her to her sister.
She was salutatorian beaten out by Bea by .01 in her GPA, prom queen wasnāt even her thing, but her parents wanted the best. Sabina was captain of the swim team her sophomore year of high school, the youngest at Farmsville High School. Her parents hardly ever went to her meets, they were always at Beaās softball games. Even though she felt overshadowed most of the time she would go to war for her sister. That was her best friend and always will be.
They continued into the quad of the campus before they heard an unholy screech. A blonde girl was berating a brunette girl. Both equally beautiful, was everyone here this pretty?
āOmg did that girl make that noise?ā Bea whispered to Sabina.
āWhere is my coffee, Taylor?!ā A blonde was screeching at the shorter brunette.
āPoppy d-didnāt say to get you one though. Iām sorry Chloe.ā Well now we know the mean girls name.
āI am her number two in command, and you are near the ass end of the list, so what in your little pea sized brain made you think to forget my coffee?ā
Bea stopped a little way from the outburst. It was like watching a trainwreck, she just couldnāt look away. Plus, a little chisme never hurt anyone.
The blonde noticed the twins staring. āCan I help you farmhands?ā Chloe sneered at the girls.
āYou know maybe if you were nicer then maybe you would have your coffee. It might make you more pleasant.ā Bea grinned and winked at the brunette. Taylor tried to fight a smile while blushing. She never did like bullies that never changed.
āAlso, who are you calling farmhands blondie? We donāt use words back from where Iām from.ā Sabina stepped confidently towards Chloe. Chloe tripped a little but kept her balance.
āDo you really want this problem?ā Chloe took a step forward. Sab wondered if she was serious being shorter than her and her sister. She could respect Chloeās confidence if she wasnāt so rude.
āWell, I was thinking I needed some entertainment. Long drive and all.ā She took a step closer to Chloe. The tension palpable, she was sure everyone could feel it.
āDo you have any idea who I am?ā
āI figured a pretty girl with an anger issue, but I am assuming that was rhetorical.ā Bea holding her smug grin.
āEnough of this.ā Bea turned to the new voice, and sure enough entered another gorgeous girl walking through the crowd as it parted like the red sea. She wore a carnation pink outfit and had strawberry blonde locks that flowed like a runway model. If Bea wasnāt so annoyed with Chloe, her jaw might have dropped.
āThey started it, Poppy.ā
āI donāt care who started it Chloe, we do not fight with trash.ā
Bea looked around for a moment trying to figure out who this girl thought she was talking about. She looked at her sister confused.
āYes, you, Farmsville. Thatās where youāre from, right? You come to a new place and act like a big shot. Well, this is my campus. Enjoy my reign for the next 4 years.ā
āAww that's cute you think this is your campus Pop.ā
If looks could kill Bea would have dropped dead from the look Poppy gave her. She must have struck a nerve.
āAs far as I can see Poppy you are just a spoiled rich girl who thinks they own everything. Well not for long, sweetheart.ā Bea winked at her. The sun must be playing with Beaās eyes because did she just witness the queen blush? Before Bea could continue watching Poppy short circuit a hand grabbed her and Sabina hauling them off.
She ended up back in the dorm where she parked earlier. When they finally stopped in a dorm room, she got a good look at her kidnapper. A very gorgeous kidnapper. Bea wondered if she took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in a modeling agency. She smiled at Bea.
āWell Bea and Sabina Hughes welcome to Winfrey Hall, our home for the next 4 years. Iām your roommate and guardian angel Zoey.ā The girl of a deep complexion sporting a blue blazer and shorts decorated with pineapples. Jeez, she is beautiful. Bea couldnāt help, but feel warmed by her smile. It was almost just enough to distract her from recent events.
āThatās all you have to say. You kidnap us and pretend nothing happened.ā
āSpeak for yourself Bea, I donāt mind being saved by a pretty girl.ā Sabina winked at Zoey with a sparkle in her eye.
āHey, I was just trying to save you! You are the one who decided to dance with the Devils of our class. Cute, but I am here for school not women with cute smiles. Zoey shouted, but not angry.
āWho Chloe and Poppy? Iām sure I have dealt with worse on the farm.ā
āZoey, did you just admit my smile was cute?ā Bea pushed her sister who fell onto the couch.
āYea well I donāt think horses and cows can ruin your future with a call.ā
Bea stopped in her tracks. Did she just fuck up on their first day on campus and classes havenāt even started yet?
āSo, on a scale of 1- Jesse James cheating on Sandra Bullock how badly did I fuck up?ā (Like really who would cheat on Sandra Bullock have you seen her?!)
āWell, it depends how much of it ended up on the T?ā
āZoey as much as I love a good cup of Earl Gray, this is not the time.ā
āYou are so lucky you are cute. Bea I am talking about the gossip website The T. If anything happens, then the T knows about it. It also affects the ranking system.ā
Bea felt her chest get heavy; her face stayed calm because she couldnāt let Zoey see her panic. How hard was it to just lay low and keep her head down? She just wanted to start her new life where no one knew her or expected anything from her. She knew she couldnāt let Taylor be screamed at by Chloe. Chloe was a bully, and she would never let someone go through what she used to everyday in middle school.
āEarth to Bea. Where did you go, space girl?ā
āSorry I was just thinking. You seem to know about everyone and what goes for being new here too.ā
āMy mom came here and gave me the rundown. My parents told me to always be on guard. I am new money so everyone will automatically look down on me. Not to mention the rankings are already out and I am in the triple digits.ā
āDear god Zoey, what rankings? Did I just stumble into Gossip Girl? Though I wouldnāt mind dating Serena.ā
Zoey shoved Beaās shoulder not enough to hurt. Zoey laughed at her goofy roommate. She knew they would get along just fine. She felt like she lucked out on the roommate lottery. Helps that they are easy on the eyes considering they look almost exactly alike. She took a second to really take them in. They were both 6ft with tattoos on their arms. Sabina had a full sleeve, but Bea had only a half sleeve. Sabina had a leather jacket with black shorts. Bea had on just a simple shirt with shorts. They both had black hair, Beaās being curlier than Sabina. She wasnāt here for romance though. She wants to work on her music and secure her future.
āThe T affects the rankings; the top is where mostly old money sits and people who kiss Poppyās ass. She is number one because she is a Min-Sinclair.ā
Beaās phone rang out with a notification, she looked at it and saw she went from dead last to 263 while Sabina was sitting under her at 264. She felt a little satisfaction to see the number change, but this is not what she was here for.
āWell ladies, it looks like your little run in was well liked. You are plastered all over the T and people are thrilled you gave Poppy a run for her money. Just look at the T.ā
Bea scrolled through the T and looked at the comments from her duel with Poppy.
Wow Poppy looks like she could spit fire.
That Bea girl was like a knight in shining armor. I wish she would save me with her strong tattooed arms.
Wow Sabina is sexy. I wonder if she is dating someone.
I would climb those twins.
Bea read through the comments and her eyes nearly popped out of her head.
ā376 comments and almost 10,000 views Zoey I just wanted to get settled and be a normal college kid.ā
āDonāt worry this will die down and everyone will just move on to the next thing.ā
āWow sis looks like we really made a splash.ā Bea whipped a pillow at Sab, but unfortunately missed.
Bea felt like the walls were closing in on her. Suddenly the spacious and decorative living room felt like a serpent wrapping around her ribs ready to squeeze the air from her lungs. Her heart felt like had just run a full iron man. What if her parents found out about this? Zoey could sense the panic in her roommate and grabbed her hand.
āBea, I know it is scary. You were dropped into a new world and there is a lot to take in at once. I want you to focus on your breath, breathe in when I do, hold it then slowly exhale.ā
Bea held in her breath, held it when Zoey did and let it out slowly. Her mom would do the same thing as a child when she could feel her world squeezing the life out of her.
āItās getting to be dinner time. How about I treat you to a place my mom told me about and we can relax back here and get to know each other?ā
The three headed to the front of the dorm. There weren't as many people as before, but they could still tell they were being watched.
Sabina and Bea both stopped in front of the passenger seat then looked at each other. Sabina jumped for the handle. Bea tried to use her whole body to push Sab out the way. Zoey got into her car and just let them duke it out. Bea used her foot and used it to get Sabina off her feet. Bea won the match and got the front seat.
Sabina sat in the back pouting for the first 10 minutes of the drive. Bea looked out the window watching the skyscrapers pass as Zoey started driving into the heart of the city. They got out and looked up at an old looking building. It looked abandoned, Sabina thought that this is where they die.
āZoey, is this where you kill us? I should have known my weakness for beautiful women would take me out. āZoey glared at Sabina.
āI will take the compliment Sab, but just watch and learn.ā
Zoey did a combination of knocks on the beaten door and a muscular man in a suit opened the door. They walked into what felt like Hogwarts. The interior looked nothing like the outside. It was a marvelous speakeasy. Beaās jaw dropped.
āI will get us some drinks, you two find a table.ā Bea and Zoey went to go sit down and Sabina walked over to the bar.
āMay I please get 3 Moscow mules please.ā Sabina said politely. She never wanted to be rude to any staff. With the newfound wealth the Hughes had, she never wanted to feel entitled.
āComing right up princess.ā Muttered the bartender.
āWant to say that a little louder for the people in the back, sir?ā Sabina voiced, a little irritated.
The bartender looked a little surprised. āNothing, just used to you rich kids coming here just being annoying with your orders.ā
Sabina wasnāt sure what crawled up this guyās ass and died, but she was having none of it today.
āI know your mother didnāt teach you those manners. I doubt anyone would be proud of raising a dick like you.ā
The guy turned bright red and scurried off to make her drinks. A woman a couple stools away giggled. Sab glanced over at a gorgeous woman. She sported a hunter green blazer and skirt with a soft pink blouse. It complimented her figure in all the right ways and caught Sabinaās eye.The stranger must have seen something she liked because she eyed Sabina completely, lingering on her body.
āIt is nice to see him put in his place.ā the woman's voice glided across Sabinaās eardrum.
āSometimes people need to be reminded to be kind to one another. World might be a better place if they did.ā Sab smiled at the woman.
The bartender interrupted, giving Sabina the mules. She still tipped him 100 dollars because you never know someoneās story.
āItās always a pleasure to talk to someone so captivating. I should get these drinks to the table though. Have a nice night.ā Normally Sabina would have put her charm to work, but a woman so dazzling needed proper attention. After today she just wanted a nice drink and to relax before classes.
āTook you long enough Sab.ā Bea took one of the mules taking a long drink.
āSorry I got distracted with the jerk bartending.ā Sabina glared back at the bartender.
āDonāt worry about him. I have come here with my parents and he normally warms up. Not to mention none of us get carded because only the elite know about it.ā
āYou just know the ins and outs of this city donāt you Zoey?ā
āArenāt you lucky you got me as a roommate?ā She smiled brightly at the two.
Sabina downed her drink instantly and was about to get another when a waiter set down a new drink in front of her.
āWow, this place has great service.ā
āActually it was sent over by someone from the bar.ā The waitress whispered to Sabina.
Sabina had a feeling she knew exactly who the woman was. She of course wanted to repay her properly. She gave the waitress her card to pay off the womanās tab and replenish her drink.
āWhat was that all about?ā Zoey asked, confused.
āPretty sure just Sabina using her charm.ā Bea glared at her sister.
āDonāt look at me like that, Bea. I canāt help that I just exude charisma.ā Sab grinned.
āI will be back.ā Sabina got up and approached the bar to see her stranger.
āBack so soonā The mystery woman smiled at Sabina looking pleased.
āI guess I couldnāt stay away from someone so dazzling.ā
āHm well I am glad I sent that drink your way. I was hoping someone as beautiful as you would have stayed longer.ā
Sabina sat next to the woman and realized she didnāt even know her name.
āIām Sabina, but I prefer Sab. I was hoping to get your name.ā She outstretched her hand to the woman.
āIām Ina. A pleasure to meet you Sab.ā The woman gave her hand and Sabina placed a gentle kiss on the back of it.
Ina blushed, but kept eye contact with Sabina. The air was thick with the tension between the two women. They began to talk for what felt like minutes for them, but were actually hours. Bea texted Sabina.
Hey Cassanova are you ever coming back?
Do we have to leave now? I am having such a
good time.
Zoey and I are ready to head out. You donāt
I will catch a ride or uber back. Go ahead back
without me.
Alright but donāt do anything crazy.
No Promises. I love you sis. See you back at
Winfrey.
Ok, call me if you need anything love you too.
Sabina put her attention back on Ina. She couldnāt get enough of her honey brown eyes.
āSorry about that. My twin was letting me know she is heading out.ā
āNo problem. Iām glad you stayed. So you have a twin, what's that like?ā
āI couldnāt leave someone as amazing as you behind. It has its ups and downs .You essentially have a built in best friend which of course is nice. Sometimes itās like living under a shadow. You donāt ever get to feel the sunlight. Our parentās compare us in every aspect. She has always been better in grades and everything else it seems. She is their golden child and me, well I am the mistake maker.ā Sabina didnāt mean to share so much to someone she had just met. There was something about Inaās energy that just made her feel comfortable.
āI couldnāt imagine. I know we just met, but you seem special Sab. Different from other women in New York.ā
āYou know just what to say to a lady Ina. How lucky that I was able to meet someone so beautiful tonight.ā Ina looked at Sabinaās lips while she spoke. She wanted the courage to kiss Sabina. As if Sabina read her mind she leaned forward. She left a small distance incase and let Ina make the decision. Ina closed the distance as their lips met. It started off simple and sweet, but before they knew it their kisses were harder and more passionate. Sabina put her hands on Inaās hips and pulled her closer. Ina let out a soft moan.
āHow about we take this back to your place?ā Sabina smirked at Ina.
āYou read my mind. Since your friends left I will take you home later, much later.ā
The next day after a long shower and some sleep, Bea was pacing the living room. While sitting on the couch all Zoey could do is watch her new roommate.
āBea if you keep going you will leave a hole in the floor. I know you are worried about Sabina, but she will probably be back soon.ā
āI just didnāt expect her not to come back at all. She hasnāt even responded to my texts. She always responds well eventually. We donāt even know who that woman was. What if she was a serial killer?ā
āSabina seems very street smart. I donāt think she would go out with a serial killer. Well I mean she was drop dead gorgeous, but still Sab is smart.ā
Before Bea could even respond Sabina came through the door in the same outfit from yesterday. She had a smile like the Cheshire Cat.
āWell hello roomies. How is everyoneās lovely morning?ā
āWhere the fuck have you been ,Sab? Do you have any idea how worried I have been?ā
āIām sorry I didnāt realize I was rooming with my mother.ā
āYou could have at least sent me a text message so I knew you were okay.ā
Sab could see it written all over Beaās face. She was really worried and a sudden pang of guilt crashed against her heart. She hugged her sister.
āIām sorry, okay. I know I should have messaged me. Last night got away from me. She was truly amazing Bea.ā
āItās ok Iām sorry I sounded like mom. Now go take a shower we have Anthropology in like an hour and you smell.ā
Sabina walked into her room and just looked around. It felt like walking into a five star hotel or at least how she imagined one. She pulled out her outfit for today. A pair of black skinny jeans with her favorite shirt. It always complimented her tattoos nicely. They ate breakfast with Zoey and started walking to the building for Anthro 101. They sat down next to each other near the middle of the lecture hall. With the most amazing(worst) luck Chloe walked in.
āGreat here comes the wicked witch of the East.ā Sabina muttered under her breath just loud enough so Bea could hear.
āDonāt pay her any attention Sab. We are here for education not to deal with bullies.ā Bea retorted.
Sab had the seat at the end and while Chloe passed she stepped on Sabās foot.
āOk ow.ā Sab winced a little. Of course Chloe has on heels.
āOh so sorry, Farmsville.I must have not seen you thereā Chloe smirked at Sabina.
āEven though I know your apology is fake you can at least call me by my name.ā
āI think not. Get used to it, Farmhand.ā
Sabina tried to keep her temper in line , but she had enough. She shot up and stepped towards Chloe with glare.
āExcuse me, is there a problem in my class?ā
Sab whirled around and she felt her heart sink into her stomach. It felt like it just disintegrated in stomach acid. Standing before her and Chloe was Professor Kingsley. Ina Kingsley.
āShit.ā Sab muttered.
