Honestly though what better to end the greatest crossover game in history with the impossible child of a crossover game
Like there’s probably argument for Capcom vs SNK except the representation from those companies are already in Smash.
After that there’s Marvel vs Capcom, Marvel vs Street Fighter, and DC vs Mortal Kombat which the other half immediately eliminated because they are from comics.
Mortal Kombat may have a chance, but it’s still just Mortal Kombat. The characters in DC vs Mortal Kombat are from their original companies.
Disney would have been eliminated as their characters are from animation, not gaming, but they don’t use them.
They have Sora, an original character specifically created for a crossover game with a design to match. A JRPG anime boy with Mickey Mouse aesthetics. (That’s also I’m sure why they went with KH 1 Sora. It’s the most Mickey Mouse design out of all of them.)
Sora fulfill Sakurai’s requirement for characters created for a video game, act as a visual and metaphorical symbol of crossover in gaming, the tone of KH and Smash are similar being mainly light hearted with serious moments and aimed at general audience adults and kids can enjoy, so he fits Nintendo’s popular aesthetic like Link and Mario, and that’s before we found out he’s also the top most requested character for Smash.
Sometimes the stars just aligned, but not without effort. They had to postpone using him for 6 years until they’re sure they can get him and portray him in a satisfying manner.
There maybe other original characters from crossover games I don’t know but at this moment I can’t think of anything that’s more popular and fulfill all those things I bolded more than Sora.
Heck I didn’t even realize it the first time, how many similarities Sora has with Nintendo, but of course, he was not just Disney and Final Fantasy, but also inspired by Mario 64. That’s what… the fifth reason?
It’s magical. It’s just magical. I still can’t believe they did it, but when I lay it down like this, I can see why they put the effort to do it.
Oh and he can satisfy people both in the East and West. Something that characters like just Banjo Kazooie and The Hero on their own can’t achieve. So that’s the sixth reason.
All of those reasons combined made why it really should be Sora if they can get him and they did. It happened. I’m happy and I’m impressed.
