im just so happy i live in a time period where actual meaningful biological transition is possible. even if we lose rights or the ability to exist in public, nothing can turn back the clock on that, and just by having any sort of access to that our lives are made immensely better. millions of our sisters throughout history would never have dreamed of a day where they could have what HRT does for us.
please don't lose the plot of this. if you're a trans person on HRT you're a living miracle, the dream of hundreds of millions of your ancestors. your lives are all deeply meaningful no matter what anyone says.
A prayer by Kalonymus b. Kalonymus ben Meir that appears in his poem ספר אבן בוחן, יג Sefer Even Boḥan (§13), describing the author's wish t
Cursed be the one who announced to my father: “It’s a boy!"... ...How could he twist the course of the stars so much? How could he have erred so in his astrology? A lying tongue, a fool’s mouth it had given him For he foolishly transformed justice to poison He altered the law and transposed the lines
Oh, but had the artisan who made me created me instead – a worthy woman... ...I would say "how lucky am I"
Father in heaven who did miracles for our ancestors with fire and water... ...Who would then transform me from a man to woman? Were I only to have merited this being so graced by goodness...
What shall I say? why cry or be bitter? If my father in heaven has decreed upon me and has maimed me with an immutable deformity then I do not wish to remove it. the sorrow of the impossible is a human pain that nothing will cure and for which no comfort can be found. So, I will bear and suffer until I die and wither in the ground. Since I have learned from our tradition that we bless both, the good and the bitter I will bless in a voice hushed and weak: blessed are you [HaShem] who has not made me a woman.
I think I'm gonna go lay down for a little while.

it's so normal in the united states to overconsume ultra-processed food and treat health lackadaisically that people think you're weird if you adhere to a healthy diet/lifestyle. maybe they also assume the only reason you would possibly eat well and exercise is so you can look a certain way, especially if you're a woman. or it's always come naturally to you, and it's a privilege, as opposed to thousands of choices you make everyday. some of us don't want our bodies to be in a perpetual state of inflammation. why would i sacrifice myelin for a food item? ykwim? it's not always toxic 'diet culture' or disordered. sometimes it's a no-risk, high-benefit therapeutic intervention supported by medical literature. 6 months or so since changing my diet i am stronger than i have been since my ms diagnosis 4 years ago. saving crazy $ as well mastering my kitchen instead of outsourcing it.

for saving money (just what i do, beyond price per weight calculation, comparison shopping, shopping the sales):
obviously you save a lot on food if you prepare it yourself, especially if you effectively meal prep. the base for most my meals is brown rice and chickpeas, which i buy dry in bulk and prep a week at a time. i add homemade condiments like hummus, vinaigrettes, yogurt sauce, chili crisp, roasted nuts/seeds, preserved citrus and pickled veggies, ETC. then i add a vegetable roasted in my air frier with olive or avocado oil, salt, and black pepper, garlic powder if i feel like it lol.
rice and legumes (beans, lentils) are among the cheapest foods you can buy. produce may be more expensive, but a sack of potatoes stretches further than a mini bag of lays at the same price. so whether it's fresh or frozen - both are fine, frozen can even contain more nutrients than fresh due to ripening - most produce is not costly.
speaking of meal prep, i always have homemade meals pre-portioned and labeled in my freezer so that the "convenient" option is already there (and healthy and delicious and all that!!). i love the souper cube.
Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.
“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”
it has since been confirmed that namaygoosisagagun first nation has completely burnt to the ground. if you would like to help the community navigate an ongoing crisis, i urge you to donate to the anishinabek nation 7th generation, a registered charity seeking to improve the lives of first nations people. donations are going directly to members of namaygoosisagagun first nation.
