Envy (Lost in Limbo) x gn ! Reader

Can be read as platonic or romantic ^^ and it’s just pure fluff (??? Is that the name for it…) I wrote this for my friend @drowzydreamz !! It’s their birthday today :]

Harsh rain slams against the window, weaving together and dancing low onto the sill. It’s almost a rhythmic sound—the rain accompanied by the thunder rumbling throughout the sky and earth, the flame crackling in the fireplace, the delicate swishing of hair intertwined with your fingertips—and a sudden groan of annoyance pulls your mind back to reality.

“I could almost feel the receding hairline you’re going to give me with how hard you’re pulling my hair.”

You scoff and give a light tug at his hair, lightly tipping his gaze up towards you. You take a moment to drink in their features, their exhausted emerald eyes, dainty star-like freckles, sharp nose and jaw, and prominent frown.

“Are you just going to stare at me? Looking up at you in this position makes my neck ache.”

You snort at their complaints and push his head back to its original position. It was a bit hard to braid their hair with all its layers and silky texture, but you manage. The decorative ribbon that you wove into his braid provided some extra support.

A few minutes later, you were done.

You reach over to the table to grab a handheld mirror, and passed it to Envy. The two of you gaze into the mirror. He's analyzing the braid, and you're analyzing their reaction. For a moment you two lock eyes, and it seems like the sounds of the world was drowned out… until he lets out an awkward cough, trying to distract you from the soft red that blooms across their cheeks. Looking away he mutters, “You did… okay, I guess.”

You breathed out a chuckle and took a few steps back, giving him space.

“Aren’t you forgetting something?”

Envy turned their head towards you, annoyance plastered on their face. His gaze flickered back and forth to you, and some place in the room as if there was an audience there. With a sigh, they crossed their arms and turned their body to face you with expectation. You spoke up a little louder, “Oh I don’t know, maybe a thank you for braiding my hair!”

He groaned and rolled his eyes, “I was going to thank you, but since you decided to act so entitled to that, you don’t get one.”

You giggled at his response and watched in amusement as they shook their head at your reaction. You walked up to him and held a hand out in a half heart shape.

“I love you.”

Envy glared at you from the corner of their eye, before letting out a scoff and completing the heart. The gentle pink of a lotus dusted his cheeks and ears once more as they muttered, “I love you too.”

✦ LOST IN LIMBO DEVLOG #23 | 12.02.2025

("But Seyl! It's not the 2nd anymore!" LET'S PRETEND IT IS.)

And November is over just like that! Crazy! This month we bring you some tasty previews (or at least we hope you like them!) and some other shenanigans we've had to deal with this November.

The rework of the old CGs is done!!!!!!!! Completely!! The only thing left is adding them to the build, but we'll talk about that later. Now we have to discuss whether to start with the LI's alternate sprite (if you remember, it was our social media stretch goal!) or jump straight into working on Cécile and Vycar. Poor Raquel has had to get x-rays done on her neck because her hands were falling asleep and turns out it's something about the cervical vertebrae. Sadly that has been holding her back a bit.

Airyn has been working like a beast to keep bringing Dagalis to life. Knowing how each character's domain looks like and having guidelines to follow maybe sounds like something not necessary, but if you want to build a fantasy world, you need to build it. And Airyn is doing exactly that!

Dagalis is divided in two main districts; the one people live in, with cafés, houses, food stalls, and so on; aaaand the partying district. Kickstarter backers and Patreons had a taste of all the concept art Airyn has been working on, like the full process, street furniture, and more!

This month I've worked on Gael's route outline, as well as on Amon's 1st chapter! Right now it's sitting at 92 pages, and I have some stuff to refine and figure out as I do my thing and keep editing!

We had our first special Patreon illustration, as well as our first Patreon ask-box special! Patreons have voted the theme and character of December's ficlet, and obviosuly the prompt that won the poll was "MC x LI [NSFW]".

What else—boring stuff, like dealing with Correos, doing our monthly taxes (WHICH I HATEEEEEEEEEEE), and talking to a dear friend of us who will be working on our Compendium screen!

When it comes to our lives, I have had a rocky month! My medication was upped, I taught a concept art and digital painting course at college for two weeks, therefore I got home at like 10 pm, plus writing an article for a magazine and more PhD stuff. Last week until yesterday I've been grading the students's projects. It has been so fulfilling even if I had to spend half of the day going to college and coming back, and the other half preparing the classes and actually teaching them gdfbngd.

I also organized an art exhibition with my beloved PhD bestie, where we highlighted our students's work! We also included some bits of our own stuff, and as we were missing things to put on the tables, I brought some LiL merch that I grabbed for myself from the leftovers we had.

We inaugurated the expo yesterday after the last touch-ups. It was exhausting but worth it! Someone recognized our work and chatted with me a bit, it was so so exciting!!!!!!!

Astro has been dealing with his first exams and has done incredibly well. I'm so proud of him. He scored a 10 in all subjects except for one, in which he scored a 9. He works a lot between his studies, his work at school, and the things he has to do for LiL. He also has been a bit sick lately, but he's doing better!

Kayden is there!

Raquel has been fighting pain on her neck due to a cervical deviation, but she's already doing some exercises to heal up! She's very happy with her new (and first!) car, but it's true that work stresses her a lot and she doesn't have as much time or energy to dedicate to LiL as she was before she was hired.

I would've liked to have more time for LiL this month, but it is what it is. I don't want to end this on a sour note or anything! I hope we can finish the year with a blast, or at least with more progress to show and that we're proud with.

𝑃𝑟𝑒 𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑑 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝:

◈before getting with Envy I believe there would be very small or subtle changes in the way they would act towards you. He himself probably wouldn't notice at first the way their eyes lingered on you a bit longer than usual. How they seemed to be paying attention to every little thing from you.

◈You'd find them also lingering by your side more to. If you were to ask of course he would say that they "aren't there on their own accord" ... That he " just had to watch you for something and nothing more, idiot!"

◈Don't even think about holding eye contact with them for a second longer than expected. You'd see in real time just how red their cheeks and the tips of his pointy ears could get before they'd quickly look at literally anything else... How cute.

◈I feel if you were to be walking slower than normal Envy would carefully yet firmly take your hand into theirs and tug you along without so much as another word. Also no they "most certainly are not blushing you are imagining things moron!"

◈pre relationship you also happen to often come across them writing down things in their books more than usual it seems... Hmm

Now let's move on to...

𝑃𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑑 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝!:

◈Assuming you went ahead and moved to Shalamar- Envy's circle and moved in with them I bet there would be plenty of domestic moments just being with them.

◈We know their circle isn't in the best condition nor is the black Citadel but with them alone it was still certainly home now. You let him know as much.

◈after forming a bond with Envy I feel it'd be when you realized just what they had been writing down in their book. It was a minor accident that you got a glimpse in the first place but Envy wasn't upset just heavily embarrassed because it was then you saw they had various things about you written down. Like for example things you like, dislike, some of your little habits that you may do without realizing and plenty more.

◈It was also in moments of comfort where Envy would be somewhat leaning/laying against your chest while reading. Perhaps you'd take that moment just to play with their hair in contentment.

◈there was also mornings ofc! The both of you just basically tangled in each other, book tossed halfway across the floor.

◈I feel like with time ofc you'd both take turns with making one another breakfast. Or there would be times where you'd both be up in the kitchen, still in pajamas, talking about whatever(and possibly throw little playful jabs at one another because come on now 🤭)while you both work together to make food.... Maybe there's some times where it gets a little burnt but uh oopsies!

◈Later in the day without not as much talk you'd both be getting ready/dressed for whatever in peaceful silence. Maybe helping your partner with his ungodly amount of buckles and straps... Sweet circles why is there so many?!?

◈of course there'd be some pretty funny moments I imagine. Perhaps you wanted to try on Envys cloak or an outfit in general of theirs.... Yeah that failed miserably because now you are stuck and it was at that moment Envy had walked into the room... yeah congrats with your entanglement and witnessing a very flustered Envy trying to help

◈Back at Shalamar- where it's pretty cold I believe Envy would naturally make sure you have plenty of blankets to keep warm. Maybe make a blanket fort or 2 for the both of you. Maybe a bit of cuddling with chocolate milk and your drink of choice.

◈No he absolutely did not just grab your wrist and accidentally pull you into his lap because you had to go to the bathroom and he didn't want you to leave. You are "once again imagining things, Idiot!"... (Surely you can wait a bit hm? Stay a little longer with them yeah?)

◈Even being in a relationship with them I feel like they'd still call us the lovely names we know now like idiot. Tho probably not as much as before... Maybe only when they're incredibly flustered but shhhh

◈You also remember their I'm assuming cursed black scaley like hand? Yeah I feel in certain circumstances they'd still let you hold their hand with that one. Would you wanna trace your fingers over it? Perhaps they'd be relieved or slightly surprised you didn't think of it or them as gross. No you wouldn't be scared hopefully. After all it was just another part of them. You'd still hold onto that hand all the same... Maybe even place a kiss upon their knuckles.

◈night fall is probably the best to spend by his side. I feel Envy would bring out a blanket for the both of you to wrap around yourselves as you both leaned on another while watching the stars. Time passes but it feels slow and calm when it's by their side.. even when he falls asleep against you. Push a strand of hair out of their face. He looks peaceful and comfortable. That's all you wanted for them. Close your eyes and carefully place a kiss on his face yeah?

AND THAT'S IT! Technically these don't really feel like head cannons not to me I feel like I got carried away with some of them but they were still super fun to do! I hope you dear anon and anyone else who may read this enjoys this anyways 🤭 also please do feel free to leave head cannons in the comment thingy if you guys have any yourselves👀

The sounds of cheerful chatter and the elegant melody of a piano could be heard. It was the day of a ball that took place within Gaels circle. Port L‘uveé, the fourth circle out of 7 others.

At the ball, you dressed in your best formal wear that Gael had tailored specially for you. It matched his outfit in some ways but, of course, incorporated your own tastes and comfort. Being the caring man he is Gael always made sure to take note of what you liked and disliked. Which you were of course very appreciative of.

This brings us to where you are now. It had been a minute now since you arrived at the ball and by this point you had snuck off to a quieter corner after Gael excused himself to talk amongst the more important guests. The ones that were a part of the most respected families that made up the grand houses you assumed.

It was then you took in the quiet area you were currently residing in you had seemingly got lost in your thoughts. Or more so recalling something... Your time with Gael and how things came to be as they are now.

It had been quite some time since you first appeared and made your home alongside Gael within his circle, because now he was your fiancé, albeit within a fake arranged marriage type of deal, but that didn't dampen your relationship with one another any less, or so you had thought.

You truly adored and loved him. You knew as much. He had been beside you every step of the way when it came to trying to learn more about your world and perhaps get you back home... Though maybe nowadays that thought was at the back of your mind, or maybe it didn't cross your mind at all, not like it did before, at least.

You hummed a little subconsciously with a smile gracing your face. That was until you hadn't noticed someone now made their way towards the corner you were currently standing by which resulted in you getting snapped out of your thoughts.

{Who was this person} was your immediate thought until it hit you. Oh circles, what if this person was of importance from the grand houses or something? You surely hoped not...

It was then this person clearly had intent to start talking to you. You knew for certain you had to play along mostly as to not bring any doubt that you were Gaels or hell even end up in some type of accidental scandal. That would be terrible for not only you but Gael as well. You did not want that.

Mentally hyping yourself up you quickly got yourself together before smiling toward the person to be respectful. Then they started speaking.

Sure they were pretty polite even asking some questions here and there which you honestly tried answering to the best of your ability. You were still smiling and making some small talk as to not make the conversation super one-sided.

Though in the moment of trying not to blow yours or your fiance's cover you hadn't realized Gael- your fiance in question spotted you. He saw it looked as if you were having a nice time. Being the polite Kind soul he is he of course didn't intervene or interrupt... Looking back part of you wishes he did.

Hours had passed by now. People who had attended the ball were starting to clean up and leave. The cheerful chatter from earlier had died down and the piano had stopped. Thankfully by then as well the person who had been talking to you for quite a while had also excused themself and made their leave.

Holding back a yawn you finally took a step away from the corner, dusted yourself off and decided it was definitely time to go looking for Gael. You were pretty happy to finally be able to go back home and even more excited to relax by Gaels side.

With a slight pep in your step you made your way to where you had figured Gael would be... The accommodations/snack or dessert table. And you would be correct! There your fiance was sampling some ice cream freely as most of the people had already left by now so he was able to happily indulge himself without any prying eyes.

You smiled as you walked up to him and called out. "Gael hii" you said which caused him to quickly turn his attention towards you. He seemingly perked up right away but... You could tell something was off as he made eye contact.

"Ah hello there Y/n.. did you enjoy the ball?" He asked as the tips of his ears slightly flushed and he loosed the neck of his shirt with his finger. You smiled softly at him. "Oh it was pretty good!" You said.

"Wish I could have spent more of it with you though.. I got caught up in quite a long conversation- super nerve wracking you know" you added and awkwardly let out a laugh trying to ease whatever tension was in the air right now.

"is that so?.." Gael replied as he looked down at the floor and once again was subconsciously fiddling with the neck of his shirt. "Mhm! No matter that now though I'm just incredibly happy that we can finally get back home- I feel like I've been neglecting you all night and for that I'm sorry" you said as you gently took his gloved hand in yours.

Gael, of course smiled and said that it was really no problem and that he was just glad you were having a good time before following along as you led the two of you back home. Hand in hand. You didn't know what yet, but something was off.

The awkward tension and shy glances from Gael didn't stop even after the both of you got home and changed into more comfortable attire. If anything it got worse which made you incredibly nervous.

You had to get to the bottom of this or it was going to drive you crazy. You quickly finished tidying yourself up in the bathroom before making your way towards you and Gaels shared bedroom. Thank circles he was in there and already sat on the edge of your shared bed.

"Hey Gael.." you carefully said as you made your way to him and sat down beside him. Turning your attention to your beloved you then noticed he looked extremely tired and perhaps even sad. "Is everything ok love?" You asked earnestly tilting your head ever so slightly to get a better look of him.

"Oh! Uhm yes, yes of course... Just thinking" he said and weakly smiled. He still wasn't looking you in the eye. Now you were starting to get even more worried.

"hey what are you thinking about exactly?... You know I'm here for you dearest, always" you added. Gaels breath hitched ever so slightly. If you weren't paying attention you would have missed it.

"I uhm saw the person you had mentioned having a long conversation with... You looked happy- I.. I did not wanna interrupt"

That surprised you like a slap to the face. Oh dear circles. It was then you carefully and gently brought your hands up and placed them on Gaels shoulders and turned him towards you.

"Hey look.." you brought one hand gently under his chin and made him look at you. "Did you think I really had any interest in that person? Over you?" You questioned honestly. You didn't ever want him thinking you didn't love or care for him the way he did for you.

"Maybe... Yes. I- no you deserve better" Gael said. "So so much better... You don't deserve being stuck in something that was arranged especially a relationship" his lip faltered along with his voice. He was still looking at you though. His purple eyes glossy and tired.

You quickly shook your head. "The fact you even think that..." Your heart nearly broke upon hearing those words fall from your beloved's lips. "Listen..There's no one else in either all of limbo or the firstborn that I want more than you- no one- no nobody could ever change that." You admitted truthfully.

Gaels eyes were now slightly wide. His mouth ever so slightly open but no words coming out.

"You didn't want our arrangement to cause me any pain, and it hasn't, and it never will. I'm certain of that... You mean more to me than words could ever convey" You said. You then carefully pulled him against your chest. You needed him to hear your heart. How fast he made it beat for him and him alone.

"my love, admiration, and appreciation for you transcends time I'm for certain... So please don't ever think otherwise" you shakily said while gently playing with his hair as your other hand went to rub circles on his back.

It was clear he relaxed into your warmth. The feeling of your chest. The melody of your heart that beats for only him. He was at a loss for words.
