"just speaking in general not just about the show, there is something that changes in people in how they look at the world once they've lost someone in that kind of way or had something really traumatic ... it's something that really shifts how you look at things. Cause you have this new idea of this new framework that really bad things can happen and nobodies necessarily protected from it. And Rust goes pretty far with it."
from dr. sweatpants ep 17
"It's like someone saying "you know, wrestling's fake." I feel like Marty's like "yeah everyone fucking knows its fake but shut the fuck up and watch the Rock." I don't think its that he doesn't know what Rust is referring to, but Marty's whole thing is that he insists on the norm... containing ...denial."
from dr. sweatpants ep 17
…I imagine Rust’s utter apathy felt validating to viewers in some ways. Despite “lacking the constitution for suicide” and having a strong sense of duty, Cohle seemed to view life as truly pointless and random, and he longed to “let it go.” Whether you’ve encountered a tinge of meaninglessness or deal with it regularly in relation to an underlying struggle with depression or response to trauma, this mindset is one that we are all susceptible to. So it was perhaps for this reason that some viewers felt betrayed by this season’s concise, optimistic conclusion…

reblog in honour of brian baumgartner who got married this weekend
My friend Tyler is trying to lose weight and he asked my other friend Orlando to train him. Tyler was embarrassed to go to the gym though so Orlando is taking care of that by dressing up as characters when they go to the gym so that the focus isn’t on Tyler but on himself. So far Tyler has been trained by a Jedi and steampunk Batman. This is one of the nicest things I have ever seen done for someone else. Orlando’s kindness blows me away.
