This is possibly my hottest maze runner take

But to me I feel like I can probably go even hotter. We all know that the books are objectively male centred. And I feel its not crazy to say that Teresa shouldve had a bigger role.

But I believe in the ending of the book that Thomas should've died not Teresa.

I have three main points, so just hear me out.

1.

It was a misogynistic decision

Looking at these two characters if their genders were swapt, Thomas would've been the one to die. Because we all know if there is a woman main character they need to be married or dead by the end of the book. And that was the ONLY reason Teresa was killed, to end her story without infiltrating Thomas' ending.

2.

It made more sense for the story

Teresa has a more, in my opinion, complex storyline and her dying does not resolve that. What would've brought her storyline to the nicest conclusion is her making it to safe haven and aiding in the care of those who were left. Her storyline should've ended, in my opinion, with Thomas' death aiding her with a relief effort and a connection of the Gladers. If we gave Thomas the, lets face it, lazy and unemotional death like Dashner gave Teresa we could've had for example a character like Minho see her try and save Thomas and realise that her aim the whole time was to preserve as many lives as possible.

3.

It makes more sense for their characters

Thomas dying makes WAY more sense. His whole thing is saving his friends. Teresa is a stronger character than him, she is more intelligent, she makes harder decisions. Whilst Thomas' main goal throughout the books is to save as many of his friends as he can. So his death could of been a final ode to his story, sacrificing himself to save his friends. Whilst Teresa was more about saving as many people as possible, so her making it to the safe haven would've done that for her.They are both selfless characters but in different ways, Thomas would gladly sacrifice himself for anyone. Whilst Teresa would sacrifice public opinion to do the right thing. It makes more sense for Thomas' character to sacrifice himself. And for Teresa's character to help build the safe haven up.

And I could see how her dying would prompt Thomas to do that for her. But we can see from some of the very last lines of the book, that it doesn't. Teresa should've been there to do it for herself. And in part for Thomas, looking after their friends in ode to him.

I love when Steve is the one who's a little freak about Eddie. During the middle school talent show, fetus Steve takes one look at gangly, goofy Eddie with his oversized clothes, buzzed head and big ass Bambi eyes and is just immediately obsessed.

He keeps it to himself because of the expectations of his parents and his dumb friends, but holy shit he's down bad. He watches Eddie get a little hotter every year and has to restrain himself with every single bit of self-control he possesses. God help him once Eddie starts getting tattoos.

By Steve's senior year, he has several classes with Eddie and he's dating Nancy. He does really like her and it has nothing to do with her curly hair and dark eyes. But then he's in class like:

Eddie notices Steve looking at him often. Has always noticed. He just thinks the dude fucking hates him.

Also, Robin and Steve would end up friends so much earlier because she clocks him the minute they all three have a class together.

Robin corners him after class, like "I know what you are..." And Steve is just so relieved he can finally wax poetic about all the things he loves about Eddie.

One week later, Stobin are besties for life; however, Robin has forbidden Steve from even uttering the words "Eddie Munson" because she cannot listen to one more passionate speech about his "sexy waist" or "cute little ass" without throwing herself off something tall.

The next year is just Stobin trying to convince the other to make a move on their respective crushes. The upside down related shit basically gift wraps Eddie for Steve, but there would be so much miscommunication and they both still think the other hates them.

So much yearning. Steve would finally just throw himself at Eddie, and basically beg for it. Like the first time they're around each other, alone, a little high...Steve's just going for it and hoping for the best. Eddie's confused but enthusiastically on board.

Haven't really interacted with tmr fandom for a while just because my lifes been busy but me and my best mate had this idea for an OC agesss ago so I need to tell you all about them.

So basically they are part of the right arm and they are mostly book based however they could fit into the movies as well. They work for the right arm and they are friends with Gally. They are roommates with Gally and were living with him in Denver, they took him in and cleaned him up when he arrived in Denver and really helped him find himself. They are nonbinary and their name is Val(or Ziggy i haven't decided), they are kind of a love interest for Gally but more like a bestfriend someone who helped him come to terms with his trauma someone who helped him build up strength and a sense of self.

They are more bubbly and outwardly nice than Gally is and their relationship with Gally is comes across as like two people who hate each other but they don't, they are just polar opposites but really have an intense love for one another.

I kind of imagine they're the one to give the group Gally's note but I can't remember if it was stated in the books who that was. I haven't re read them in a while.

The girls of group B

This is all based on Book canon so how they are described in the books!!

(I'm aware their are more but I just haven't read the graphic novels yet)

Harriet

- Described as Group B's Alby

- Described to have hair almost down to the scalp and dark skin

- status: Alive

I don't really like the stuff where all the group b people have a group a counter part because I feel like dynamics and people are more complex than that. So she probably served the same role that Alby did but in a different way, from the way she acts in the book I feel like her partnership with Sonya was probably more collaborative and I hc that she would probably let other people take over leadership a bit more if she recognised it wasn't her strong suit.

Sonya:

- Could be Group B's Newt

- Newts younger sister

- Described kind of inconsistently, but she probably had like darkish ginger hair

- Status: Alive

Again I don't really see her as group B's Newt, I think she was probably a lot different than Newt, less emotionally unstable and probably softer than Newt. She's easier to trust and we know this because she's more trusting of Wicked in the fever code, but then after the scorch trials we can see that she is very against Wicked. I Hc her to have some of the same Mh struggles as her brother but I imagine she had better coping mechanisms and was able to talk about her feelings more, during the fever code i imagine she probably knows how Newt can be from when they were little so even if she doesn't remember why she knows its important to talk to people and try and find healthier ways to cope.

Rachel:

- Described to be Group B's Thomas

- Status: Killed by Beth

I sort of imagine she was really kind, I think her thomas would of got along really well and they probably had some of the same qualities, she would've hated to know that Aris had his memories the entire time. I Hc that she was also really against Wicked but was trying to interfere and save her friends in a different way that Thomas, I Hc that she really didn't want to go into the maze because she was interfering with the girls maze trails from the outside and was stopping them from dying by messing with the simulation. I also Hc that she was aware that Wicked was trying to analyse every sort of brain pattern and was able to fight it more like she didn't fall in love with Aris because she was scared it was because of Wickeds control, I also think that she stopped Group B's chuck from sacrificing herself and thats why she died.

Beth:

- Group B's Gally

- Status: Unknown/missing

I have very few HC's about her other than I think her 'betrayal' was way more out of the blue that Gally's I imagine that she didn't have many problems and none of group B saw her killing Rachel coming at all.

Miyoko:

- Literally mentioned once

- Status: Unkown

I have absolutely no HC's about her other than I lowkey ship her with Teresa for no reason what so ever other than I want to?

The death cure but written from Sonya's perspective, very focused on the girls, wlw ships!!! As canon compliant as possible but also working fun ships into it :)!!
