in the video he posted a few days ago, dylan said that he IS a scientologist and had been for roughly 3 years. as a cult, scientology naturally preys on the venerability of people and claim that they can help and support their needs, so to a person who may be struggling with substance abuse, failing marriage, bad home life, etc., initiating themselves as a member of a cult like scientology could be the result of them seeking help. in dylan’s video, he said that he had been struggling with substance and drug abuse since around 16 years old. he claimed that scientology had helped him stay sober, which is why he had continued to publicly support and recommend their resources.

it is important to recognize that while it may have helped him with the issues he faced, scientology, for the most part, does not care about the actual wellbeing of their members. their goal after initiation is to siphon money and support from their members no matter their situation. they will go as far as not letting members contact family members or live unsupervised. people cannot just “leave” scientology, it will follow them in numerous ways. some members and ex-members have reported that even after moving houses, some even across countries, they still recognize members of scientology following them around, trying to convince them to come back, sending them mail, emails, etc.
