âHave you?â Drue countered, brows raising high.
When: 5 June 1980 Where: The Drunken Dragon Who: Drue + @percivalrobardsââ
âHookahâs not a drug, dumbass,â Drue gave a joking roll of her eyes, eavesdropping on the group of men behind her.
When: 11 June 1980 Where: Macnair Mortuary Who: Drue + @esmeraldamacnairâ
âThat bloody awful stench.â Drue tinkered with something she shouldnât have, with ease. âHow do you disguise it?â
When: 13 June 1980 Where: Hair Dahlia, Diagon Alley Who: Drue + @viviantraversingâ
Drue caught Vivianâs eye in the mirror, âHow short are we going?â

Severus leaned into the false familiarity, perhaps because of the absinthe or perhaps because of how he felt when he saw himself in his tailored suit. âCertainly not, Wilkes. Letâs rejoin the masses, shall we?â
âAfter you, mate.â

âIâd rather assume the worst than be blindsided due to sheer optimism and belief in the human spirit. Besides, she makes it relatively easy to come to conclusions of our own.â There was no need to delve deeper into it than that. Everyone was aware that Narcissa and Emma didnât get along. Their views on the world colliding with an uncomfortable amount of force. âHence why Iâd rather enjoy a nighttime ride on my broom.â
âLetâs talk about anything other than Narcissa Black, then,â Drue suggested with a cheeky smile. Gossip may have bonded people, but small talk didnât. She shifted the subject to something lighter, twisting her thick hair into a low ponytail, âShow me how to Sloth Grip Roll.â

âShe isnât nuts?â Emma repeated the phrase and turned it into a question, almost disbelieving. In her mind, Narcissa was just another blood purist who believed her large bank account and red ruby blood made her something special. Emma had no time for people who clung to their last names like a shield.
âNot nuts enough to show her nuts, if you know what I mean,â Drue shrugged, kicking a rock as they sauntered outside. âI think even if she stabbed you in the front, youâd still never figure out it was her whoâd burned you. The amount of times Iâve thought about warning Rosalind. But at the risk of having my eyes poked out, Iâve minded my own business. Besides, I could be wrong. Iâve been wrong plenty of times.â However, she always regained and refocused after. âDonât assumptions make us asses? I donât know if I believe that fully.â

Severus smirked, but made no further comment. Drue was funny when she wanted to be. âWell, perhaps youâll make prefect for real next year.â
âOh yeah, Sev?â Drue repeated his nickname. âYou think Iâm a shoe in? Good to know. Now, I have to ask. Are you going to sit here and rot all evening?â
youresovanityâ:
.
âMitigating circumstances and growing older have certainly taken a toll.â She was fine with keeping things vague. No reason to let anyone dig too deep into her mind. As much as she liked Drue, Emma had been burned. No one would take her for a fool ever again.
âDonât tell me youâve outgrown the position if youâve already outgrown the people.â Drue mused, an almost proud smile forcing its way onto her face. âGlad to know being president isnât everything. Iâm beginning to believe Narcissa will do just about anything for it. Within reason, of course. She isnât nuts.â

âI believe the goal is to thrive, not be crushed by it all.â To rise to the occasion and make his parents proud. Regulus hoped death wasnât in his future, but he was no idiot. The first time he had a seizure at the ripe age of twelve, he had been certain that this was death. How quickly it had occurred. How terrifying.Â
âItâs always the goal. How often do we reach the goal?â Drue challenged, very lightly, before snatching a glass of champagne from a levitating serving tray. âYou know, Black, I want to get to know you outside of these walls one day.â When youâre younger, even a yearâs age difference seems like a generational gap, but as the two grew older and older, she wondered why sheâd never considered him before. âIf youâre up for it, that is,â she bit her lip, with raised brows as she turned on her heels, long hair flowing behind her.

âYouâre going to be a backup prefect for me? A backup prefect who brings hard drugs to school functions?â He took another drag of his cigarette.Â
âI do not participate in the hard drugs, Sev,â Drueâs tone mocked offense. âNor do I supply them. Please, donât you think Iâd have a nicer pair of shoes? They make a lot, fucking dealers. I just like to be in charge. Itâs fun and I may be particularly bright at it.â
miobloxamâ:
Something about the self-declaration of being more refined irked her, but Mio only nodded along. âWell, Iâm glad you think I have real brains for taking things slow. So, who does get the final say, do you know?â It felt good to be complimented so heavily, and Drue did seem nice, but Mio was learning to be careful around other students at Hogwarts, especially her housemates. âIâd love to have tea sometimeâfor sure.â
âI will quill you in,â Drue joke, showing a very toothy and warm smile. âSome of us do keep agendas, but please, I am not that tightly wound. I have the time and weâll get tea soon. With the end of the year approaching, we also have all summer to get to know one another. Youâll have to show me more of whatâs in your special closet. You could even come by our salon. Iâll style your hair, free of charge.â Drue toasted Mio with her glass. âIâm going to make my rounds, say hullo to everyone, but if youâre loose enough to dance later on, find me.â

She shrugged, not wanting to bother staying at the party any longer than necessary. The environment, something she had grown fond of, didnât quite fit these days. Usually she would have been there with either Frances or Daphne by her side, and now she had neither. The thought made her sick. As though suddenly she was aboard a ship, and the sea had come for her at last. âThen letâs get out of here, Drue. I hate these sorts of crowds.â
âHow in the hell did you ever get strapped as our lawful president, then, hmm?â No, Emma hadnât been the one to put on this event, but JWL had been behind many other events this year. Some of which catered very well to this crowd. Drue eyed Emma curiously. Drue was ready to head out as soon as sheâd gotten the okay.
reguwusblackâ:
.
âI try my best to meet otherâs expectations, whether theyâre attainable or not.â Regulus was nothing if not a conformist, doing his best to carry the family legacy on his shoulders. No matter how tarnished.
âAnd what, die underneath the weight of all that pressure?â She posed it as if she understood.
miobloxamâ:
Mio couldnât hide her smile at the other girlâs kind comments. âThatâs really so sweet of you to say, thank you.â She took a sip of her drink to buy herself some time. If even Ella wouldnât speak badly of Narcissa Black, she wasnât sure she felt comfortable speaking her mind on the issue in front of Drue. Emma Vanity, the current JWL president, seemed unbothered by her comments, but Mio gathered that as president, one could probably take some liberties there. âYou know, I am interested in joining the JWL, but I wanted to take some time to settle in at Hogwarts during my first year and wait until next year to apply. Do you really think Iâd be a good fit?â
âI almost wish I had done the same thing. It can be a huge responsibility, JWL. Now understanding what comes with University, Iâve been able to balance the two and have them both as priorities. I can already tell youâre a smart biscuit. Anyone willing to think before rushing into something at this age is what sets us women of JWL apart from the herd. Weâre more refined, donât you think? Trust me, I know thereâs more to refined than dressing smart. It takes real brains.â Drue wanted to leave Mio wanting more, something to come back to her for. âOf course I donât have final say, but I help with recruitment for a reason. We should speak over tea sometime, because I would love to get to know you better and hear some of your thoughts.â Thoughts on JWL, thoughts on life, thoughts on the campus -- anything and everything. As far as Mio knew, Drue was more interested in recruiting her than anything else.
princesevâ:
âThis is all I have,â he said in resignation, holding out his cigarette, not quite expecting her to take it from his hand.Â
âAnd thank you, although I should think Asher and Esmeralda should be getting most of the credit.â
âI canât stiff you your last cig, but you owe me some other time.â Drue bit back the wink sheâd usually send people because she never believed actions like winks and cheeky humor would always work on Sev. And she was fine with that. It allowed her to approach a friendship at a new angle. Genuinely, you could say. âThis isnât such an insane idea, but backup prefects sound smart. When you need time off, I step in.â
