Putting the TADC finale in theaters is bad actually. This show started on the internet gained its fan base on the internet, and should stay on the internet. I don't care that it'll be on the big screen, what I care about is the fact that it will be releasing two weeks early in theaters. A free web series will have its finale launch as a timed exclusive in the real world, for money.
This series got popular partly because it's free, literally anybody can watch it right now. Yes, the final episode will be free too, but if you wanna watch it like all the other ones when it comes out, you gotta go to the movie theater and pay for it.
And I don't want to have to do that in order to enjoy the ending to the web series. I'm fine with waiting on things to come out, they can work and develop as long as they need, I am always content with letting artists cook. But this is literally just a case of "pay money to see it early", which is a total bait n switch after telling us all it would be out June 19th. They're also pulling a Markiplier/Iron Lung guerrilla marketing thing to get people to call their theaters to demand it. Lame.
This inherently creates multiple classes of people. You're only a "real fan" if you pay to see it early, and then in the following time between the theatrical release and the actual real YouTube release, you'll be inundated with spoilers and nonsense you won't get, because you're not enough of a real fan to go see it.
Whether you can't pay, don't want to, don't like being in a theater, or no theaters near you are showing it, it's absolutely fucking crazy to just decide to end your web series like this. Plus also, it's not a movie. It's Episode 8 and the hour that will be 9. That's two episodes stitched together. That's NOT something with a film quality or budget, just big screen big sound, which is great, but also... It's still not an actual movie. You're going to the theater to watch what is effectively a made for TV type thing. And that's just not gonna be worth it.
I don't want to be around children or other TADC fans. I don't want to go to the theater, it's not comfortable there, and it's expensive. I enjoy being able to interact with the series from the comfort of my own home. I don't want to be a part of audience reactions or videos or this cultural moment it all is. I just want to sit in my living room with a bong and a sandwich and watch the ending to a series I love.
I don't care that I'll still be able to do that eventually, that's not the point. This was a series that was free and open to everyone, and we all got invested. Putting a price on exclusive early access seems to just ruin it for everyone else, and for what? So people can get an hour of new content before anyone and just ruin it the masses? It's just shitty. It divides the fandom inherently into a monetary and mental health-based have and have not.
I don't want to see TADC in theaters. I'm fine with it being there and people seeing it there. But it should have a simultaneous release with the YouTube one, or not at all. Hell even maybe like an hour early or something so people get to feel at least a little special. Nearly two weeks is ridiculous. I'm disappointed in Glitch for this one.
Also, I'm glad the series is ending. It was absolutely amazing, with so much fun and emotion, but people need to be comfortable with things like series and whatnot coming to an end. Endless sequels and spinoffs and continuations are a very modern thing. Be happy with what you have, something coming to an end and closing instead of endlessly being exploited and flanderized is a good thing. It had a great run, and now it will be over, and thank god for that. Not all things need to keep going, and in fact most things don't. Especially if they're great.
I don't care if you disagree and why you disagree, I will just block you.
