Something that strikes me about Rhythm of War is how clearly defined and different Navani's scholarship is from Jasnah's and from Shallan's. I guess this shouldn't be surprising, considering Brandon has been a university lecturer for years and therefore has ready daily access to a spectrum of academic pursuit, but it impresses me nonetheless

I think it's one thing to have different characters with clearly defined voices; I think it's entirely another to be able to write academically in your own made-up, fictional world with different voices in the pursuit of science, and therefore striving for a clinical, sterile tone, and to succeed

mistborn secret history really had me cycling through extreme sadness and extreme kelsier im gonna fucking kill you so often it blended together into just this insane cocktail of !!!!!!!!!!! for the duration of the novella but nothing prepared me for hoid, man. i was like. i KNOW hoid. we know him! hes a little bastardous and hes funny and hes nice to protags who have been severely traumatized but hes also the personification of theres always another secret like. he solves conflict via cryptic flute playing! so NOTHING prepared me for him meeting kelsier, another known bastard, and just IMMEDIATELY 👊💥🖕!!!!! he just immediately started swingin hoid you CANNOT be bastard intolerant you’d be allergic to YOURSELF
