The raven drummed his gloved fingers on his desk for a moment, considering his answer carefully. 

“I had never intended to develop romantic feelings for anyone. That in and of itself is a surprise to me..... To fall for someone like that?” 

A soft, bemused smile comes over his face for a moment. 

“Well, that person certainly is a wonder.”

Instinctively, Oswald’s body stiffens at the contact. He’d never been a very physical person, and with his sister gone there were very few who attempted to touch him, especially in a way like this. 

He takes a deep breath, returning himself to a more composed state, before allowing himself a brief moment to relax into the girl’s touch. This was the closest they had ever been, and he did not want to put her off by spurning her affections in what felt like a defining moment for them. 

“I loved her.” 

His lips moved before he could stop them, the words spilling out quickly and quietly. As if it was a risky confession. 

“I loved her more than anything.”

“Why are we playing this game again?” The raven murmured, turning his slightly pink face away from the other man. Which in it of itself was enough of a confirmation that he had guessed correctly.

"Jealousy is not a good shade for you."

The elder’s quickly shifted his eyes away, just barely resisting the urge to let out a childish huff of annoyance. Though there was also a hint of embarrassment of being called out for the less than admirable emotion he was feeling. The Baskerville grumbled slightly, not quite ready to let go of his pettiness just yet. 

“No. Green has always been more your color, hasn’t it?”

Ah– right. Oswald had everything, blind devotion from the loyal Baskervilles that fell at his feet on command, Lacie, Revis(for who knows how long he’ll last). He was already like a child with a ego too big for his head, and the Baskervilles probably never abide by the rules of marriage.                       ♚  “ Romantically, Oswald.”

The smile never strayed as he said so, but became more overcome with an anxious features. Was that not what he was jealous about?  why was he looking at him so peculiar? If he wasnt, then why did he pull him away so suddenly?? Oswalds violet gaze became more and more hard to match at as emerald orbs averted from its piercing gaze.

He is quiet for a long while, the strange look in his eyes shifting to something a bit more melancholy. Romance. He had given the concept thought, of course, he supposed everyone did at one point or another. But....No. That was not something that would be in his future. “As I said, I have everyone that I need in my life. Romance...” His voice trails off thoughtfully for a moment, a small sigh escaping him. “Romance is not something that I will ever be involved in. I am a Baskerville, Jack. Soon to be Glen. And I will be Glen until the next Glen arrives, at which point I will begin to atrophy.” The elder took a moment to push his dark bangs out of his face. “Do you see my meaning? The next Glen could come fifty years after I take power, or they could come the day after. If I were to take a romantic partner they could pass of old age long before the next Glen comes, or the next Glen could come very soon and they would be condemned to a fate of watching me slowly fade away from them. There is too much that is unknown, and the role of Glen is too much shrouded by misfortune. For me to take a lover would be cruel. I would bring them nothing but harm.” Though that logic did not stop him from feeling a little bit lonely. He worried sometimes about how lonely he would feel down the line when he no longer had Lacie and Revis if he already felt lonely when they were here.

Gilbert sat up and rubbed his eyes. He slid out of bed and looked out. His eyes widened in shock when he realized he must have overslept. He quickly dressed and tried not to look messy and unkempt. He ruffled his hair up before running out of his room and outside. He tried not to trip or get dirty as he ran to Glen. “Glen-sama.” He gently tugged his sleeve, running out of breath. “I’m sorry for being late. I overslept by mistake.”

The elder raven looked away from his paperwork, violet eyes settling on the frazzled boy beside him. “That’s alright, Gilbert.” He murmured, giving him a soft hint of a smile. In all honesty, he was glad to see the young boy get some more sleep. He worried about him sometimes. Gently, he reached down to smooth the lad’s hair in an attempt to neaten it. “Why don’t you go make me a cup of tea?”

He slightly looked down and tugged on his own sleeves. “I… I am trying. I am really nervous about it. I know what you are going to be doing to me, but I don’t know what it will feel like and I don’t know if I will be able to handle it well.” He looked back up. “But I’m trying my best to be ready when the time comes. I won’t let you down. I mean it.”

“You’ll do just fine, Gilbert.” He reassured, keeping his voice soft and level. He knew how easily the boy started to worry. “Nervousness is to be expected when approaching something that you have never done before. The ceremony is actually quite simple on your part. All you have to do is follow my directions.”
