“If you believe in transandrophobia you’re stupid”
”Transmisandry isn’t real”
”Transandrophobia/transmisandry truthers DNI”
TRANS MEN AND TRANS WOMEN HAVE DIFFERENT STRUGGLES. THEY ARE TREATED BADLY FROM DIFFERENT REASONS AND IN DIFFERENT WAYS. ACKNOWLEDGING ONE GROUP’S STRUGGLE DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM ANOTHER GROUP’S STRUGGLE.
”’Transandrophobia’ is just misdirected misogony/transmisogyny”
Do people make jokes about how hilarious the concept of a pregnant WOMAN would be? Do they talk about how evil trans women are for transitioning to the “abusive gender”? Do they fetishize trans women as weak and submissive twinks? NO! THEY DON’T*! Because this is hatred directed specifically at trans MEN, and while yes, a lot of it does have roots in misogyny and seeing women as weak, it is not. The same. Thing. You know what else has roots in misogyny? TRANSmisogyny. But because the women in question are trans, the hate leveraged towards them is different than the hate used against cis women, and it is also impacted by plain old transphobia. Thus a different word is used to clarify. Why should the concept of transandrophobia be ANY different?
”Trans men actually have male privilege.”
Most trans men actually don’t have male privilege, because a lot of people refuse to see trans men as men. I’m sure stealth trans men benefit from male privilege, but that would be taken away if it became common knowledge that they were trans.
“What people call ‘transandrophobia’ is just people being a little mean online. They don’t face any actual discrimination.”
Just because you don’t personally witness this discrimination does not mean it doesn’t happen. Just because trans men don’t talk about every horrible thing that happens to them online, doesn’t mean horrible things don’t happen. Trans men are statistically more likely to be raped than trans women are. WHICH IS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN. You can very easily find studies on this subject, it took me about 30 seconds. Also, people saying mean shit online IS discrimination. It doesn’t mean it’s the worst thing to ever happen, but it still is discrimination. Thats like if I said “All gay people should die” and after being called out on it saying “Well it was just online so it’s not homophobic, I’m just being a little mean.” What you say online matters, because it does actually impact real people.
Additionally, as an aroace person, I can confidently say that EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Of these points being made are exactly what people were saying about a-spec people a decade ago. “Ace people have straight privilege” “‘Aphobia’ is just people being mean online” “Asexual women being correctively raped is just misdirected lesbophobia” And I don’t want to see another community of queer people completely ostracized and torn apart. You may think that isn’t where we are heading, but it is. And I’m so sick of the infighting.
*yes I am aware that SOME people do this. But that is not the majority, and it does not change the fact that these are things primarily done towards trans MEN
