A Gashadokuro (がしゃどくろ) is a japanese spirit, whose name can be translated to “starving skeleton”. They take the form of giant skeletons, fifteen times taller than an average person, monsters made of the amassed bones of people who died of starvation or in battle without a proper burial. They appear after midnight, catching lonely travelers and biting their heads off to drink the blood pouring out of their bodies. Gashadokuro also possess the powers of invisibility and indestructibility, but specific Shinto charms are said to ward them off. Those spirits arrival can be sensed, since their approach will cause their victims to hear a loud ringing in the ear.
